For some people, extreme pain is something to observe at a distance in horror films. For others, it’s part of day to day life. Screened as part of Fantasia 2024, Zach Kornfeld’s witty, spirited short uses the tropes of the horror genre to explore the experience of living with chronic illness.
Kornfeld has ankylosing spondylitis, as does his alter ego in the film. The difference is that here we can see what it’s doing to him, at least by analogy. On a quiet day at the office, there are knives sticking into his leg. A colleague asks if he’s tried yoga. Elsewhere he is beaten with cricket bats whilst trying to smile and make small talk and not spoil anybody else’s day. One form of torture after another presents itself, with the people around him remaining oblivious. This includes doctors, whose clueless questions will be all too familiar to viewers.

By now everyone in Hollywood seems to accept that streaming is a cutthroat business. It may not be zero sum (most studies suggest that consumers will pay for about four streaming services at a time), but it is mighty close to it. And with Netflix holding a secure lock on one of those subscriptions for most consumers, there is increasingly little room for error.
But the streaming wars between giant services like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney, Max, Peacock, Paramount+ and others also obscure an entire ecosystem of streaming offerings that are trying to carve out their own niches in an increasingly difficult environment.
For all the press that the big streaming platforms get, there is a surprisingly vibrant world of boutique and specialty streamers chasing loyal and engaged fans at a much smaller scale. And new players continue to enter the space.

Eugene Lee Yang is leaving The Try Guys.
But, in an 18-minute announcement video called Love, Eugene, he’s quick to clarify: There’s no beef between him and fellow Try Guys Keith Habersberger and Zach Kornfeld.
Instead, he’s departing, first, because the vast number of projects he’s developing—including a directorial debut with Killer Films, a graphic novel with Vault Comics, and a queer YA fantasy duology with Macmillan/Feiwel & Friends—are taking up all his time, with fans noticing that absence more and more over the past couple of years.
“I’m the busiest I’ve ever been in my entire life, and I’m so, so thankful to be committing my blood, sweat, and tears into projects that mean the world to me—projects that have been in rigorous development for many years,” he says. “Now, as you know, once they required my undivided attention,...

The Try Guys have made careers on YouTube by, well, trying new things.
That has included unique experiences, eating entire menus, social experiments, baking and cooking competitions, and other formats that have helped deliver more than 8 million YouTube subscribers, and millions more on other social platforms.
Now, the group is trying arguably their biggest thing yet: A new business model.
On Wednesday, The Try Guys (Zach Kornfeld, Keith Habersberger and Eugene Lee Yang) are launching their own branded subscription streaming service, 2nd Try, in a shift away from YouTube as their core source of monetizing the content they produce.
“Over the last 10 years, we’ve seen both the joys and the limits of algorithmic media making,” Kornfeld tells The Hollywood Reporter in an interview. “It obviously has its benefits, it has given us a career! But increasingly we find that our tastes and more importantly, our audience’s taste is...

The Try Guys have something to tell people, but don’t worry, they know what you’re thinking.
The last time the former BuzzFeed employees turned YouTube moguls Keith Habersberger and Zach Kornfeld were in the news, it was for an internet-roiling scandal. Once upon a time, Ned Fulmer was one-fourth of The Try Guys. The Try Guys started as a content sensation at Buzzfeed before Ned, Zach Kornfeld, Keith Habersberger, and Eugene Lee Yang took their try videos onto their own YouTube channel. Together, the four business partners and friends formed 2nd Try LLC, a company that controlled all The Try Guys’ content and additional projects. Things were going exceedingly well. The foursome expanded their business, added employees, and saw astronomical growth in popularity. Then, Ned Fulmer, who used his marriage as a personality trait, was caught cheating. He left 2nd Try LLC, but did he leave the lives of Eugene, Zach, and Keith, too? It looks like it.
Why did Ned Fulmer leave The Try Guys?

Sean Atkins has watched the digital media revolution transform entertainment throughout his career as a content executive for Discovery Communications, MTV and HBO, among other outlets. In his present role as president of talent and marketing firm Jellysmack, he’s now got a front-row seat to watch how social media and the growth of the creator economy is transcending media.
“The creator space will impact everything in the Gdp,” Atkins predicts on the latest episode of Variety podcast “Strictly Business.”
Jellysmack’s pitch to social media creators is that the company can help them grow followers and impact by adapting their content for multiple social platforms. It’s incredibly labor-intensive for creators to adapt their material for platforms ranging from YouTube to Instagram to TikTok. Jellysmack operates partly as a talent scouting agency that nurtures emerging creators and helping them focus on growth opportunities. It also helps with content marketing...

It feels a little strange to say this in August, but the 2023 Streamy Awards are officially over, and they handed out a grand total of 50 awards to this year’s top creators.
This was the first year Tubefilter and dick clark productions held Streamys in the summertime, but the change of season didn’t mean everything changed: For the fourth time in a row, MrBeast took home Creator of the Year, and for the second time in a row, Kai Cenat snagged Streamer of the Year.
As for Show of the Year, that went to Michelle Khare and her daredevil series Challenge Accepted.
This year’s ceremony was hosted by MatPat, and featured dozens of presenters, including Dylan Mulvaney, Ryan Trahan, The Try Guys‘ Keith Habersberger and Zach Kornfeld, Smosh‘s Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox, TikTok Npc streamer Pinkydoll, Colin and Samir, Dream, Michelle Khare, Anna Sitar, Austin Creed,...

The Try Guys will perform ‘Romeo and Juliet,’ and they’ll let their fans rewrite Shakespeare’s story
The Try Guys have tried everything from spicy noodles to corsets to labor pain. On August 10, the trio will attempt something a little bit different by performing William Shakespeare‘s Romeo and Juliet — with a twist. Instead of sticking to the script, The Try Guys will let their fans reinterpret The Bard’s iconic tragedy.
The one-night performance of Romeo and Juliet will feature Zach Kornfeld as the titular Montague prince, with Keith Habersberger playing his Capulet counterpart. Eugene Lee Yang will show off his versality by portraying many of the play’s other characters, including Mercutio, Paris, Friar Lawrence, and Juliet’s nurse.
Based on those casting choices, we’d expect all three Try Guys to end up dead at the end of the night. (Spoiler alert!) But that may not be how the show plays out. As fans watch the performance through interactive streaming platform Kiswe, they’ll...

The Try Guys found themselves in the news in 2022, but not for anything particularly good. The internet exploded when former Try Guy, Ned Fulmer, was ousted from the company he formed with Keith Habersberger, Zach Kornfeld, and Eugene Lee Yang after an affair Ned carried on for several months came to light. Since his ousting, Fulmer has gone dark on the internet, but life has moved on for the try guys, particularly Zach. Now, the company had something good to celebrate. Zach Kornfeld is officially a married man.

Zach Kornfeld is officially a married man. Kornfeld married his longtime girlfriend, Maggie Bustamante, a nurse, on Feb. 11 in a private outdoor ceremony. Kornfeld and Bustamante kept the details of their wedding private until after the event, but social media pictures have been rolling in since the Saturday nuptials.

YouTube, a year after it ceded the title sponsorship to TikTok for VidCon 2022, is returning to claim the top post at this year’s convention.
The Google-owned video giant has typically had an outsized presence at the annual convention for digital creators, having taken the title sponsor spot for seven years in a row beginning in 2013. When VidCon returned for its first in-person event after pandemic-related cancelations and delays, TikTok had exploded in popularity and emerged to take over the sponsorship post.
The changing of the guard, so to speak, did not go unnoticed: For a convention typically dominated by YouTube, 2022’s convention returned with an emphasis on short-form content, the format popularized by TikTok. The main stage keynote was led by top TikTok creators and TikTok COO Vanessa Pappas, thanks to the platform’s title sponsorship post, and — perhaps most noticeably — a large photo-ready TikTok statue hovered over...

The Try Guys are going live.
In their first event following the ousting of Ned Fulmer, the now-trio Keith Habersberger, Zach Kornfeld, and Eugene Lee Yang will cap off this season of culinary chaos series Try Guys Without a Recipe in a live cook-off.
Habersberger, Kornfeld, and Yang will go head-to-head Dec. 17 to see who can make the best churro with no recipe—just a chef’s demonstration to model after. Unlike previous Without a Recipe competitions, which had winners declared by panels of judges, this one will crown its champion based on real-time votes from live viewers.
Those viewers will pay between 19.99 for a basic ticket and 49.99 for a “VIP bundle” with access to a post-show stream and a limited-edition T-shirt. The whole production is being broadcast by Kiswe, a New Jersey-based interactive video company founded in 2013.
The Try Guys have done live in-person events before, but this is their debut live digital broadcast.

In October, “Saturday Night Live” aired a sketch lampooning the recent drama surrounding video content quartet the Try Guys, best known for the wholesome image they cultivated working at BuzzFeed. Weeks before, one of the quartet’s members, Ned Fulmer, was removed from the company after his extramarital affair with an employee came to light, causing a stir on social media among fans of the group. The “SNL” sketch parodied the intense reaction that the news caused, with Brendan Gleeson playing a CNN reporter who devotes airtime to explaining the scandal.
In a recent Hollywood Reporter interview, the three remaining Try Guys — Keith Habersberger, Eugene Lee Yang, and Zach Kornfeld — responded to the sketch, calling the experience of being parodied on the comedy series surreal.

The fall of 2022 was a trying one for the Try Guys.
That’s when the Fab Four of digital content suddenly found themselves at the center of a maelstrom of bad publicity. It all began after it came to light that one of them — Ned Fulmer, 35, who billed himself as the happily married “wife guy” of the group — had been carrying on an inappropriate relationship with an employee who starred on their spinoff series, Food Babies.
The other three — Keith Habersberger, 35, Zach Kornfeld, 32, and Eugene Lee Yang, 36 — took swift and decisive action against Fulmer, first with a Sept. 27 Instagram post announcing he was “no longer working” with them; then with an Oct. 3 video posted to their YouTube channel (which boasts over 8 million subscribers) explaining “what happened,” later parodied on Saturday Night Live.

Saturday Night Live makes a hilarious attempt at explaining why the Try Guys cheating scandal became major news in a sketch from the NBC variety show’s second season 48 episode.
Starring Bowen Yang as Eugene Lee Yang, Mikey Day as Keith Habersberger and Andrew Dismukes as Zach Kornfeld — YouTubers known as the Try Guys — the sketch kicks off as a CNN report with SNL cast member Ego Nwodim serving as the cable news show’s host and SNL episode host Brendan Gleeson as an on-air correspondent.
Gleeson’s live White House report is abruptly interrupted by a faux interview — recreating a real video from the actual Try Guys release last week — as the trio addresses the fallout of former Try Guys’ member and “Wife Guy” Ned Fulmer’s cheating scandal.

"Saturday Night Live" is facing backlash due to a Try Guys parody sketch that aired during the Oct. 8 episode hosted by Brendan Gleeson. The skit skewered a recent video the guys - Eugene Lee Yang, Zach Kornfeld, and Keith Habersberger - released explaining their decision to fire their fourth member, Ned Fulmer, after it was revealed that he had a workplace affair. While the sketch makes light of the trio's response to their friend and coworker's infidelity, Twitter users are calling out the NBC series for taking aim at the remaining Try Guys rather than Fulmer. (Popsugar reached out to the Try Guys' representatives for comment on the sketch but did not receive an immediate response.)
In the skit, Bowen Yang, Mikey Day, and Andrew Dismukes play Yang, Kornfeld, and Habersberger, who appear in a breaking-news segment on CNN hosted by Gleeson, who appears as a reporter well-versed in the drama.

“Saturday Night Live” parodied the intense social media reaction to the drama surrounding popular online comedy group the Try Guys with a sketch that featured parodies of the group’s remaining three members.
Episode host Brendan Gleeson, who was on the show to promote his upcoming film “The Banshees of Inisherin,” starred in the sketch as a CNN White House correspondent reporting on important developments in America’s relations with Russia. But — much to the befuddlement of anchor Ego Nwodim — Gleeson interrupts the report to announce that the Try Guys have responded to the controversy surrounding Ned Fulmer, who was fired from the group after admitting to a “consensual workplace relationship” with a producer of the group’s online video series.

Even if you don't follow The Try Guys' media content, chances are you've probably heard their name lately.. On Sept. 27, the popular YouTube group announced that one of its four members, Ned Fulmer, would no longer be working with the content creators, following reports of an extramarital affair.
The Try Guys initially addressed the news with a joint statement on social media, officially declaring Ned's departure from the brand following a "thorough internal review." The statement read, "We do not see a path forward together. We thank you for your support as we navigate this change." Since then, both Ned and his wife, Ariel Fulmer, have spoken out on the matter.

Two of the three remaining Try Guys took to their TryPods podcast today to explain, according to member Keith Habersberger, “What we emotionally went through…our side of the experience for the last month.”
That experience was the very public removal of longtime member Ned Fulmer after they discovered that Fulmer, who is married, had an affair with an unnamed staffer. Further complicating things was the fact that his wife, Ariel Fulmer, hosts a podcast called You Can Sit With Us with the other members’ wives.
Titled “Ok, let’s talk about it,” today’s podcast featured Habersberger and Zach Kornfeld detailing just how overwhelming the news and reaction was for them as well as the decision not to replace Fulmer.
“We processed this almost like a trauma,” Kornfeld explained. “It really rocked our word, but also the ramifications were so clear. I don’t think that I really ever stopped to emotionally process it.

The Try Guys are opening up about the “trauma” of the cheating scandal that rocked the internet.
The content creator group made headlines in late September after it was revealed one of their co-founders, Ned Fulmer, was engaging in an affair with an employee. While he’s since been removed from the group, the internet is still buzzing over the scandal, with many unconfirmed rumours gaining popularity.
Keith Habersberger, Zach Kornfeld and producer Miles Bonsignore took to their podcast “The TryPod” to try to dispel or confirm rumours and set the record straight.
The internet personalities confirmed the theory from fans that they discovered the affair over labour day weekend.

“Ned Fulmer is no longer working with the Try Guys.” With their opening sentence, the stunt Youtube group’s first video since dropping former cohost Fulmer from their roster set a serious tone: one widely different from their usual comedy-driven content. In a five-minute video titled “What Happened,” posted late Monday night, remaining members Eugene Lee Yang, Zach Kornfeld, and Keith Habersberger gave a quick, decisive, and extremely genuine-sounding statement of facts and their plans for going forward — a move that had fans and casual observers alike telling Hr departments...

“This is not who we are, and we took this very seriously,” said Try Guys member Eugene Lee Yang in a video the group posted today addressing the removal of longtime member Ned Fulmer. Yang, along with remaining members Keith Habersberger and Zach Kornfeld confirmed what fans had suspected: Fulmer, who is married, had an affair with an unnamed staffer.
“Ned had engaged in conduct unbecoming of our team,” said Habersberger.
The result is that, to the extent possible, Fulmer’s presence in the group’s videos is being erased, both going forward and retrospectively.
“There are several videos that we’ve deemed as fully unreleasable. You will never see them and that’s due to his involvement,” revealed Kornfeld.
But there are also a few upcoming videos that are sponsored and will include the former member, ostensibly due to contractual obligations.
You can watch their sometimes emotional announcement below.

“We’re obviously incredibly shocked and deeply hurt by all of this,” Yang said, speaking for the group. “This is someone we’d built a brand and a company with for eight years. We feel saddened not just personally but on behalf of our staff and our fans who believed in us.”

Although Ned Fulmer is looking to move forward, some fans can't help but look back at his past. Earlier this week, the content creator, who was part of the popular YouTube group The Try Guys, was confirmed to be "no longer working" with his fellow members after allegations surfaced that he cheated on his wife, Ariel Fulmer, with an individual from the workplace. Shortly after the group shared their statement, Ned issued an apology, in which he admitted to cheating on Sept. 27. Amid him speaking out, a past interview done with Cosmopolitan resurfaced online. In the 2017 sit-down with fellow Try Guy Zach Kornfeld, Ned—who was married for five...

Ned Fulmer is no longer a member of The Try Guys. The embattled personality announced his departure from the group after admitting to an extramarital affair.
Keen-eyed Try Guys fans noticed that Fulmer had been absent from several of the group’s latest videos. In some clips, it appeared as if Fulmer had been hastily cut out, even though he had been present at associated filming sessions.
Rumors soon swirled. Had Fulmer been booted from the group after having an affair? According to the man himself, yes. After The Try Guys tweeted that Fulmer “is no longer working” with his three former co-stars, he took to Twitter himself to admit his infidelity. “Family should have always been my priority, but I lost focus and had a consensual workplace relationship,” Fulmer said. He apologized for the pain he caused to his wife, colleagues, and fans.

The cabler picked up “No Recipe Road Trip With the Try Guys” to series, with an additional five-episode order. Food is one of the most popular content categories on YouTube, so it would follow that creators in the space might pursue culinary merch products -- rather than or in addition to traditional apparel items -- in building their burgeoning online empires.
And beyond the Rosanna Pansinos and Sean Evanses of the world, even non-food YouTube creators -- like David Dobrik (who is rumored to be getting into the pizza business), coffee entrepreneur Emma Chamberlain, and The Try Guys' Keith Habersberger (hot sauce) and Zach Kornfeld (looseleaf team) -- are trying their hands at culinary ventures.
In many ways, says Kornfeld -- who sold out of the 25,000-piece initial run for his Zadiko tea brand -- launching a food product harnesses the same skills as being a video creator.

Try Guys star Zach Kornfeld is dipping into the beverage business -- a path that has been trod by countless influencers before him.
The 30-year-old has launched Zadiko, a loose leaf tea brand that sold out promptly upon its launch on Aug. 17, and which is being restocked today. A total of 25,000 units sold out in just under 12 hours last week, Kornfeld tells Tubefilter. Zadiko comprises three SKUs -- Zach’s Breakfast blend ($20), a second flavor dubbed Mission Chill ($20), and a duo pack ($35). That means that, at the very least, Kornfeld sold half a million dollars worth of tea on launch day.
This marks the second food/beverage brand to be launched by one of The Try Guys, who count subscribers 7.3 million subscribers and roughly 50 million monthly views on their flagship YouTube channel. Zadiko follows the launch of Keith Habersberger’s hot sauce brand in December. Kornfeld tells Tubefilter that while...

The Try Guys, BuzzFeed’s longtime foursome of viral video makers, are finally leaving the media company to go out on their own.
The group, made up of former BuzzFeed employees Ned Fulmer, Eugene Lee Yang, Keith Habersberger, and Zach Kornfeld, are launching an independent production company called 2nd Try LLC. The company will gain all rights to The Try Guys brand, including its social media presence, though BuzzFeed will remain along for the ride as a branded content and advertising sales representative.
The Try Guys formed at BuzzFeed in 2014, where they’ve received over 1.5 billion total video views as of the first quarter of this year. Their most popular video, "The Try Guys Try Labor Pain Simulation," has more than 31 million YouTube views and over 108 million views on Facebook.
With 2nd Try LLC, Fulmer, Yang, Habersberger, and Kornfeld will work on feature films, new series, and live tours among other projects.
