"I lit the fuse, and now we watch Wheeler burn..." Uh oh! This sounds dangerous. Signature Ent. in the UK has revealed an official trailer for an indie dark comedy called The Prank, the second feature film directed by Maureen Bharoocha. This originally premiered back in 2022 at the SXSW Film Festival that year, and it also showed at the 2023 Santa Barbara Film Festival, but has never been released in the US. A bit strange. Ben and his slacker friend Tanner decide to play a prank on their high school physics teacher Mrs. Wheeler. When she fails the entire class after someone cheats on a test, they teach the demanding instructor a lesson by falsely accusing her of murder on social media. Of course, it ends up spinning wildly out of control. What will happen next? The film stars Egot winner Rita Moreno, with Connor Kalopsis, Ramona Young, Keith David, Kate Flannery,...

This dark comedy isn’t quite as clever or funny as it thinks it is, but it’s great fun watching Moreno clearly having a blast as the baddie
Nerdy swot Ben (Connor Kalopsis) and dropout-in-the-making Tanner (Ramona Young) are high school seniors and best friends. That seems mildly implausible given their wildly different life goals: he wants to get into the same top university his recently deceased father attended, while Tanner just wants to chill and play games until climate change kills everyone off. But their friendship is the least implausible component in this dark comedy which has fun piling twists and unlikely turns of events on top of one another until the whole Jenga pile of silliness topples over in the last act.
In the end, it’s not quite as shocking, funny or inventive as it thinks it is, but the two young actors have good comic...

The film scripted by Rebecca Flinn-White (Period’s Big Adventure) and Zak White (Creepshow) follows Ben (Kalopsis), who is your typical high-school overachiever. He’s organized, careful, goal-oriented and extremely dedicated to school. His best friend, Tanner (Young), couldn’t be more opposite. She is a lackadaisical, messy, slacker, who lives in the moment. They aren’t popular, but they don’t seem to care that much because they have each other.

The CBS teen-parenting comedy pilot Unplanned in Akron has added four new cast members, including Eastbound & Down star Katy Mixon. Mixon is joined by Mr. Iglesias actor Cree Cicchino, Outmatched star Connor Kalopsis, and Ugly Betty alum Christopher Gorham, for the series, which follows two teenagers navigating parenthood. With help from their friends and parents, the teenage couple learn that mistakes in life don’t have to derail your life; sometimes, you just have to laugh (or cry) your way through it. Cicchino, who recently played Luisa Torres in the HBO Max limited series And Just Like That…, will portray Brianna. Described as sharp-witted, outspoken, and unfiltered, Brianna is mature beyond her years, having played “mom” to four younger siblings. Now she has an 8-month-old of her own to take care of. Cicchino’s other credits include Game Shakers, The Adventures of Kid Danger, and The Sleepover. Kalopsis plays Brianna’s partner Tyler,...

Katy Mixon (American Housewife), Christopher Gorham (Covert Affairs), Cree Cicchino (And Just Like That…) and Connor Kalopsis (The Grinder) are set as leads in Unplanned in Akron, CBS’ multi-camera comedy pilot from Schuyler Helford (Call Me Kat), Erik Feig’s Picturestart and CBS Studios.
Written by Helford with Emily R. Wilson supervising, Unplanned In Akron is a series about teenagers Brianna and Tyler (Cicchino and Kalopsis), who are navigating parenthood in the best way they know how. With a little help from their friends and parents, they’ll learn that mistakes in life don’t have to derail your life – they will learn that no matter what age you are, taking care of a child is no joke — but sometimes, you just gotta laugh (or cry) your way through it.
Mixon will play Wendy, Tyler’s mom, and a barista at a coffee counter where Brianna works as a cashier.

Everyone has that one teacher they absolutely loathe. The kind who inspires ridiculous yet horrible rumors because kids just want to justify their illogical anger with a darker truth. When some wild rumor spreads about a teacher like this, it becomes all too easy to believe. The best part about Maureen Bharoocha's "The Prank" is seeing how blatantly and quickly everyone in this quiet, small-town jumps at the chance to believe the local physics teacher is a cold-blooded murderer.

It’s set during the senior year of Ben (Connor Kalopsis), the kind of obsessive-compulsive overachiever who prints out several backup copies of his homework assignments, and Tanner (Ramona Young), a hacker, high on energy drinks, who’s his equally brainy but less responsible best friend. These two exist in their own unpopular cloistered geek space. But then fate throws a curveball at the striving-to-be-perfect Ben.
His AP physics class is run by the most infamous teacher at West Greenview High: a veteran instructor named Mrs. Wheeler — played, in a performance of must-see deviousness and passive-aggressive glee, by Rita Moreno. Mrs. Wheeler, with great pride, presents herself as the ultimate stern taskmaster, a kind of knowingly formidable teacher-as-drill-sergeant. She’s not just explaining the intricacies of physics (which she’s actually quite good at); she’s “training young minds” to be ready for everything the world will throw at them.

If you go to see this, The Prank’s on you.
Unspeakably lame in every department—writing, directing, acting and intent—this immature little goof on a high school murder mystery is notable only for the presence of Rita Moreno, looking and sounding some twenty years younger than her actual 90 as a sinister school teacher who should have retired and abandoned her wicked ways while she was still ahead. Absurdly plotted and handicapped by two massively unappealing lead teen characters, this is a very unlikely entry in any film festival, but it nonetheless did debut at South by Southwest.
None of Maureen Bharoocha’s three previous films over the past seven years—Fatal Flip, I Am Watching You and the decently reviewed Golden Arm—has served to put her firmly on the map, and matters are not bound to change due to the dim-witted plot, lame dialogue and thoroughly obnoxious...

Despite releasing a retrospective documentary about her astounding eight-decade career, Rita Moreno shows no signs of slowing down. The 90-year-old Egot winner has reinvented herself many times over the years, but she dons yet another beguiling disguise as a psychopathic physics teacher in the dark teen comedy “The Prank.” Her sleek black Cadillac may be an obvious nod to Cruella de Vil, but Moreno’s severe Mrs. Wheeler looks more like a Bond villain in her precise grey bob and black leather gloves.
Most of “The Prank” revolves around two squeaky-voiced teenagers: floppy-haired overachiever Ben (Connor Kalopsis) and ditzy-but-brilliant slacker Tanner (Ramona Young), broadly sketched types we’ve seen a million times. The outsized caricatures work when it comes to Mrs. Wheeler, whose slight stature collides playfully with the outsized fear she instills in her students. But the tired Gen Z tropes and cheesy one liners suck the life out...

Fox has opted not to proceed with a second season of its freshman multi-cam family comedy Outmatched.
The move, which was fully expected, leaves Prodigal Son as the only Fox series formally on the bubble. That drama, starring Michael Sheen, is getting renewed, contingent on finalizing deals and locking in Sheen’s schedule.
Outmatched, the only new live-action comedy introduced by Fox this season, never quite registered creatively or ratings-wise, but Fox brass love the two leads, Jason Biggs and Maggie Lawson, and may try to get them for other network shows, I hear.
2019-20 TV Cancellations And Renewals For Broadcast, Cable & Streaming
From writer/executive producer Lon Zimmet (La to Vegas), Outmatched harkened back to one of Fox’s signature comedy series, Malcolm In the Middle. It centered on a blue-collar couple in Atlantic City trying to raise four kids – three of whom just happen to be certified geniuses.

Fox has canceled the multi-cam comedy “Outmatched” after one season.
The news comes on the same day the network announced that it had renewed both “Last Man Standing” and “The Resident.” With the cancellation, the only Fox show awaiting word on its fate for next year is the freshman drama “Prodigal Son,” which sources say is likely to return.
“Outmatched” joins fellow canceled freshman Fox series “Deputy” and “Almost Family.” The network previously renewed freshman animated comedies “Bless The Harts” and “Duncanville” and the freshman drama “9-1-1: Lonestar.”

Fox has canceled the multi-camera comedy “Outmatched” after one season, TheWrap has learned.
“Outmatched” was one of a handful of shows absent from Fox’s schedule for the 2020-21 season when the network announced it last week. “Last Man Standing” and the medical drama “The Resident” have since been picked up for new seasons, leaving the freshman drama “Prodigal Son” as the only scripted series still awaiting a decision from the network.
The cancellation leaves Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing” and midseason entry “Call Me Kat” as the network’s only two live-action comedies currently on the slate for next season.

We’ve never fully understood the circle of life until this very moment.
Remember when Eugene Levy’s character walked in on Jason Biggs‘ character making sweet love to a delicious pastry in 1999’s American Pie, resulting in one of pop culture’s most iconic (and uncomfortable) father-son sex talks? Two decades later, it’s now Biggs’ turn to speak with his own on-screen teen about the birds and the bees.

The latest variation on network sitcoms’ beloved “a family, but with [x complication],” Fox’s “Outmatched” flips the usual parent-child dynamic on its head by following an Atlantic City family, including three bonafide genius kids who are too smart for their bewildered parents to understand. Each time one of their children tests off the charts, Mike (Jason Biggs) and Cay (Maggie Lawson) groan in preemptive exhaustion, imagining all the highbrow projects and questions their progeny will have for them that they, in turn, have no idea how to handle. They, as every other joke reminds us with the bluntness of a neon billboard, are just too dumb to keep up.
From prolific sitcom producer Lon Zimmet, “Outmatched” does have some sharp moments, especially when it sits in the uniquely weird disconnect between parents and kids who share few interests, or underlines the difference in how the capital g “Gifted” children interact with...

Exclusive: Tony Danza has been set for a guest spot on the Fox sitcom Outmatched, whetting the appetite for an imminent return to starring in a sitcom, his first in a long time. Danza was just set for this and will be at the table reading Monday morning as he separately decides between several offers for his own sitcom vehicle.
Best known for starring in Taxi and Who’s the Boss and last seen in the Netflix series The Good Cop, Danza has gotten close to doing a few sitcoms in recent years. One was a father-son show at NBC built around him and stand-up comedian Sebastian Maniscalco, and another was a male Golden Girls-type sitcom with Danza and John Goodman at ABC.

Exclusive: Saturday Night Live alum Finesse Mitchell is set as a series regular opposite Jason Biggs, Maggie Lawson and Tisha Campbell in Fox’s new multi-cam family comedy Outmatched.
Written and executive produced by La to Vegas creator Lon Zimmet, Outmatched is about a blue-collar couple, Mike and Cay, played by Biggs and Lawson, in South Jersey trying to get by and raise four kids, three of whom just happen to be certified geniuses.
Mitchell will play Irwin, Mike’s best friend and co-worker in construction. Irwin is Rita’s (Campbell) husband, but it’s clear she wears the pants and makes the decisions in the family. He’s a former jock. He’s a laid back and confident guy’s guy. More handsome than he is smart. People are drawn to him. Fox has picked up to series live-action family comedy Outmatched (fka Geniuses), from La to Vegas creator/executive producer Lon Zimmet; and animated comedy The Great North from Bob Burgers creator/executive producer Loren Bouchard and the Emmy-winning Fox animated series’ writers/co-executive producers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux. Both hail from studio 20th Century Fox TV and are co-productions with Fox Entertainment.

I’ve got a great and creepy new horror short film for you to watch today. It’s called The Candlelight Witch and it centers on three siblings who end up telling a scary story to pass the time during a blackout. As you might imagine, the chilling tale proves to be more dangerous than legend.
The short was directed by Becca Flinn-White, and is inspired by the kind of horror that you might see on the series Are You Afraid of the Dark?. The films stars Brooke Sorenson, Presley Richardson, Connor Kalopsis, and Emily Burkart.
I enjoy this kind of stuff and even though the premise is simple, it’s an effectively chilling story. Watch it below and let us know what you think!

"It's just a story. It's just a story..." Another chilling horror short film to give you a thrill if you need it. The Candlelight Witch is a new horror short from the filmmakers behind other horror shorts including Your Date is Here and Where Is It and Mikus. Directed by filmmaker Becca Flinn-White, this short is about three siblings who tell a scary story one night that ends up becoming a bit too real. Which is truly one of the worst nightmares when you're a kid. This is suggested for those who love the Are You Afraid of the Dark? series, inspired by that kind of harmless storytelling. Starring Brooke Sorenson, Presley Richardson, Connor Kalopsis, and Emily Burkart. I like these shorts because they're so simple yet still so effective. Thanks to Todd for the tip on this. Could The Grinder be coming back? During a recent interview, star Rob Lowe said the Fox TV show might not be over quite yet, TVGuide reports. The cancelled comedy starred Lowe as Dean Sanderson, Jr., an actor who relocates to his old hometown and decides that, since he played a lawyer so successfully on television, practicing law at his family’s law firm can’t be all that different — much to the frustration of his hard-working attorney brother (Fred Savage). The cast also included William Devane, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Natalie Morales, Hana Hayes, and Connor Kalopsis.Read More…...

File this under: Kid, You'll Never Work in this Town, Again. From October 2015 to September 2016, Jonathon McClendon briefly played a Soras-ed version of Chase Jennings on Days of Our Lives. Hyrum Hansen and Connor Kalopsis previously filled the role. Despite his short time on the NBC soap opera, this fledgling actor is speaking up about his former employer. McClendon says NBC should cancel Days of Our Lives, noting, "52 years is too long," and "I'm watching General Hospital from now on." The irony of those sentiments is, of course, April 1st will mark Gh's 54th anniversary on ABC.In his time at Days of Our Lives, McClendon's character raped Ciara Alice Brady (Vivian Jovanni). Ciara was not only Chase's potential love-interest and temporary step-sister (yes, yuck), she is also the daughter of Dool super couple Bo and...

Connor Kalopsis is learning at a young age ... it's not what you know, it's who, because the young star of "The Grinder" is riding Rob Lowe's gorgeously tailored coattails all the way to the bank. Connor inked a contract which guarantees him $22,500 an episode on Fox's comedy about a TV star on a legal drama who tries becoming a real lawyer. Connor's guaranteed 6 shows, which totals $135,000. If the show's a hit ... he'll get 4% bumps...

Rob Lowe and Fred Savage have each starred on very successful TV shows that have run for many years. They've also each been on series that have been cancelled. How will The Grinder do in the ratings? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.
The Grinder revolves around Hollywood star Dean Sanderson, Jr. (Rob Lowe) whose TV show was suddenly cancelled. He relocates to his old hometown and decides that, since he played a lawyer so successfully on television, practicing law at his family's law firm can't be all that different -- much to the frustration of his hard-working attorney brother (Fred Savage). The series also stars William Devane, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Natalie Morales, Hana Hayes, and Connor Kalopsis.

“Fake it til you make it” is Rob Lowe’s mantra as Dean Sanderson, Jr. in Fox’s new original series “The Grinder.” Lowe stars as a hotshot television lawyer who returns to his hometown and joins his family’s law firm. Unfortunately, Dean lacks several important necessities of being a lawyer — no bar certification, no license to practice law, no experience in a real courtroom and no formal education. Still, this small-screen star is up for the challenge. Fred Savage stars as his brother Stewart. Mary Elizabeth Ellis, William Devane, Natalie Morales, Connor Kalopsis and Hana Hayes also star.

Fox loves a familiar face, and whether that means renewing shows that have been on way too long, or picking up a new show with Rob Lowe and Fred Savage. You can’t blame them, because people, but this one looks like it might have an uphill battle for fans… or it will be brilliant… or both.
In a spin on legal shows that seems to suggest an underlying dislike of legal shows, Lowe plays an actor who was on a show playing a lawyer for several years. With his show finally off the air, he’s moving back home, and his brother (Savage), who is actually a lawyer, can’t stand him.
That sounds like the perfect opportunity for The Grinder to prance around real courts, stealing his brother’s lack of thunder.
Hilarity ensues.
This is a show littered with difficulty, but there is a chance that it could pull everything together.

With the 2014-2015 television season winding down, many television fans and channels are looking ahead to the new series that will make their debut over the next television season. Fox is no different, having announced their renewals, cancellations, and new series pickups over the last week, and the network has now released trailers for a number of their new series.
First up is the trailer for the new animated series Bordertown.
From Family Guy’s Mark Hentemann comes Bordertown, a new animated comedy about two families living in a Southwest desert town on the U.S. – Mexico border. The series takes a satirical look at the cultural shifts occurring in America, where the U.S. Census forecasts that by 2017, ethnic minorities will become the majority. Set against this increasingly diverse backdrop, the comedy explores family, politics and everything in between with a cross-cultural wink. Bordertown centers on two clans: the Buckwalds and the Gonzalezes.
