Daisy Ridley Shines in Festive Miu Miu: Red Top, Crystal Skirt, and Chic Pumps at the Fashion Awards
Along with Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, Daisy Ridley was one of the stylish attendees at the 2024 Fashion Awards, which took place at the Royal Albert Hall.
Although Rihanna stole the show, Ridley also drew my attention with her eye-catching and flirtatious two-piece outfit—something I don’t often see on her.
Daisy Ridley frequently adopts an understated yet sophisticated look on the red carpet. She typically wears simple, classic styles, which I don’t really appreciate. But she made an impression on me at the recently concluded Fashion Awards.

Daisy Ridley has insisted 'Star Wars: New Jedi Order' is alive and well.Recent reports suggested the project has been thrown into production purgatory at Lucasfilm, but the 32-year-old actress – who is set to reprise her role as Rey Skywalker in 'New Jedi Order' – has now insisted there are no issues with the project going on behind the scenes. In an interview with City Am, Ridley said: "Of course I’m really excited to film and I’m really excited to share developments with the world. It’s all good, it really is!"The 'Young Woman and the Sea' star – who played Rey in J.J. Abrams' 'The Force Awakens' and 'The Rise of Skywalker, and Rian Johnson's 'The Last Jedi' – added she was having discussions with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy about getting more involved with the project behind the camera. She explained:...

No, the image above is not Melissa Fumero as the beloved Amy Santiago in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. In fact, the actress' new character is nowhere near being a part of law enforcement. Even though she pretends to be! That would be Fumero as Drew/Olivia in Peacock's Based on a True Story season 2, which is now streaming.
No matter what she does, Fumero brings a great element to any role. And this one is no different! In the second season of the dark comedy, the star plays Drew, who is Ava's [Kaley Cuoco] new mom friend. At first all is well and good, and she shares she's a detective. However, all of that is not true. Even the baby she says is hers is the one Drew babysits.
It turns out Drew's real name is Olivia, and she's Matt's [Tom Bateman] ex-wife. Aka the mother of his son, Ollie! Whaat? Talk about complicated.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Based on a True Story, Season 2.] Based on a True Story‘s second season was filled with twists and turns, one of which was the introduction of Drew (Melissa Fumero), a woman who befriends true-crime obsessive Ava (Kaley Cuoco). As Ava dug deeper into trying to uncover the identity of the newest serial killer galavanting around town, Drew was doing some meddling of her own. But instead of being the detective Ava thinks her to be, she is actually Olivia, the ex of Westside Ripper Matt (Tom Bateman). It turns out that Olivia wanted to end Matt’s murder spree by catching him in the midst of a crime and revealing evidence to authorities. Realizing the threat Olivia is making, Ava’s sister and Matt’s fiancee, Tory (Liana Liberato) stabbed the woman, killing her. While Olivia’s time was short-lived, Fumero’s latest role certainly packed a punch. Below,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Based on a True Story, Season 2.] Based on a True Story‘s second season has arrived on Peacock and with it more twists and turns in the story of couple Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan (Chris Messina), who find themselves entangled with Matt (Tom Bateman), a serial killer known as the Westside Ripper. After Season 1’s adventures, the trio continue their entanglement as Matt becomes romantically involved with Ava’s younger sister Tory (Liana Liberato). Vowing to never murder again, Matt works on steering clear of his killer instincts, but suspicions are raised when a string of murders occurs around Ava and Nathan’s town. Ava, meanwhile pieced together the clues and concluded that a copycat killer was at large. This investigation was partly tied to her new friendship with Drew (Melissa Fumero), a woman she believed was an investigator herself, but later learns is actually Matt’s ex. Threatening...

Did “Based on a True Story” need a second season? Arguably no, but credit where credit is due: Season 2 the Peacock series — now led by Annie Weisman — is significantly more confident, entertaining, and batshit (respectfully) than the first, so when the inevitable cliffhanger rolls around, it actually feels earned.
Season 2, Episode 8, “This Week’s Guest” starts with Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan (Chris Messina) held hostage at a podcast studio by the as-yet-unidentified Copycat Killer. This is a show with so few characters that I was genuinely stumped as to the murderer’s identity, and thrilled by the reveal that its Chloe Lake’s (Natalia Dyer) sister (Sarah Paxton) — whose sister was killed by Matt (Tom Bateman), the West Side Ripper.
It’s a turn very much of a piece with the rest of the season, which smartly pulls away from Ava, Nathan, and Matt’s hit podcast and its dubious ethics.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about Season 2 of Based on a True Story.
Wedding bells are in store for Liana Liberato this season on Based on a True Story, and let’s just hope someone knows how to get blood stains out of white.
After the first season saw Tory unwittingly sparking romance with a serial killer, the actress told Deadline about “justifying her choices” as she gets engaged to ‘Westside Ripper’ Matt (Tom Bateman) and “holding up a mirror” to true-crime obsessives in Season 2 of the Peacock dark comedy thriller, now streaming on the platform.
“I definitely thought at first, Tory would probably be in the dark in Season 2 and she’d just be dating Matt and having no idea that she was in bed with a serial killer,” admitted Liberato. “But it was an interesting challenge being thrown that curveball and having to justify her decisions and her choices.

Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina have a copycat on their hands, but the sophomore season of their dark comedy thriller is anything but a retread.
In Season 2 of Peacock‘s Based on a True Story, premiering Thursday on the streamer, the duo is back as new parents Ava and Nathan, who have mostly settled into the chaos of parenthood after diving into their serial killer friend Matt’s (Tom Bateman) mind on their podcast.
“I’ve said from Season 1, they are as guilty as Matt is at this point,” Cuoco told Deadline. “They have done a lot of bad things, so they all kind of need each other in a way and no one can ditch the other. They’ve got a lot of dirt on each other. So, we kind of all have to deal...

Plot: Season two finds new parents Ava and Nathan Bartlett three months into parenthood. Focused on taking care of her family, Ava is determined to resist her true crime obsession and return to work as a real estate agent while Nathan trains private tennis clients. But a series of new murders pulls her back in – is Matt behind the slayings? Is Tory, now entangled in a relationship with Matt, in danger? For a while, life is good — Ava’s TikTok habit and her new friend Drew provide a welcome distraction, and Nathan’s all in on reigniting his tennis career as well as his friendship with Matt — until danger comes knocking, literally.
Review: When the first season of Based on a True Story dropped last year on Peacock, I was not impressed with the story of a couple who started their own true-crime podcast with input from a real serial killer.

“Based on a True Story” returns with a deliciously dark and twisted second season that takes the true-crime podcast concept and flips it. After a whirlwind trip in Season 1, where Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan Bartlett (Chris Messina) were entangled with serial murderer Matt Pierce (Tom Bateman), the series delves deeper into the intricate world of crime, media, and personal transformation.
The first season introduced us to a suburban couple at their wit’s end – Ava, a true crime fanatic, and Nathan, a failed tennis coach – who mysteriously decide to launch a podcast after discovering Matt’s identity as the Westside Ripper. Their strange blackmail-turned-podcast strategy not only rescued their marriage but also landed them in a deadly dance with a charismatic serial murderer.
Season 2 begins with dramatic life changes: Ava has given birth to baby Jack, Nathan is scraping by with private tennis lessons, and Matt appears to have endured a recovery journey.

Based on a True Story may not be based in reality, but Season 2 is keeping serial killer Matt’s (Tom Bateman) story unpredictable as his entanglement with new parents Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan (Chris Messina) continues. The series returns to Peacock on Thursday, November 21, and Bateman stopped by TV Insider’s studio to tease what’s in store for the latest chapter. As fans may recall, the killer who led a double life as a plumber weaseled his way into Ava and Nathan’s lives when their true crime obsession uncovers him as the Westside Ripper in Season 1. Colleen Hayes / Peacock After initially starting a podcast together in agreement that they’d all stay on their own side of metaphorically drawn lines, those boundaries were blurred when people in Ava and Nathan’s lives began snooping and uncovering some answers about their activities. When a friend of Ava and Nathan’s wound up dead,...

It's almost time to see what comes next in our favorite comedic murder-mystery, Based on a True Story season 2 on Peacock! This show quickly became a favorite of mine, with Kaley Cuoco, Chris Messina, Liana Liberato, and Tom Bateman doing an excellent job of bringing the series to life. The second season premieres with all eight episodes on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024. And to help us gear up for what comes next, Show Snob had the opportunity to speak with Liberato and Bateman about their characters' surprising relationship, whether Matt is genuine in his feelings for Tory, and more. After Season 1’s abrupt cliffhanger, there was no doubt that Peacock’s “Based on a True Story” was angling for a second season, and it’s the increasingly rare show to turn one around in roughly a year once that light turned green.
The first season of Craig Rosenberg’s dark comedy introduced Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan (Chris Messina), a married couple living in Los Angeles who accidentally cross paths with active serial killer Matt (Tom Bateman) and decide to start a true crime podcast with him. As the specter of the West Side Ripper grows, so too does the podcast’s notoriety, and Matt sinks his claws into the lives of two people in way over their heads and dancing with the devil.
Also they all did drugs and made out with each other. But that was just a dream sequence.

Daisy Ridley's new thriller ‘Magpie’ “changed quite a lot” after she pitched her ideas to husband Tom Bateman. The 32-year-old actress appears in the noir flick as lonely mother Anette - whose husband becomes infatuated by a famous movie star as he chaperones their young daughter on a film set - and now Ridley has revealed the project underwent major changes after she presented it to her partner, who she co-wrote the picture with, with Anette becoming the focal point of the plot.Speaking to Dread Central, Ridley said: “It changed quite a lot. I had an initial idea about an actress infiltrating a family, and told Tom and we started developing it.“And he just said he was much more drawn to Anette being the centre of the story. Once he made that decision I was like, ‘Sounds great!’ He just said the story sort of flowed out from there.

A rough boxing drama comes to life in the dusty, sun-baked Western Australia of the 1970s. It’s more than just another story about punches and forgiveness. “Kid Snow” is a one-of-a-kind piece of Australian film. It brings the world of traveling tent boxing shows back to life with raw realism and gripping human drama.
Paul Goldman, known for movies with complex plots like “Suburban Mayhem,” directed the movie. It is about an Irish boxer named Kid Snow, played by Billy Howle. Stories about family, survival, and the never-ending search for second chances are told against the background of a moving carnival.
The story of Goldman’s return to making movies after 18 years is a story of resilience, just like the movie’s ideas. Kid Snow is a thoughtful look at broken people trying to get away from their past, set in the rough-and-tumble world of bush entertainment.

The first season of Bad Sisters was an unexpected hit for Apple TV+, earning fans and four Emmy nominations. This debut thriller from theatre director Sam Yates deals with hot, messy emotions in a cold, contained manner. Taking its cue from the spacious yet airless modernist house that encases the crumbling family at its centre – and from producer/star Daisy Ridley’s short, sharp haircut, perhaps clipped from Rosemary’s Baby – it’s a measured and muted affair, all slow build and steely colours.
Given that writer Ben (Shazad Latif) proves himself to be an unsupportive, self-absorbed dick from the opening scene and only gets worse from there, you might find yourself wishing for more heat: a Midsommar-style bonfire by the half-hour mark would do it. For while Latif brings a wrinkle of humour and a twinkle of eye to the part, he’s not afforded a great deal of nuance to play with. This, after all, is a guy who happily uses his cute daughter to cosy up...

As negative reports have been coming in about the upcoming New Jedi Order film, many have wondered about the project's future. However, Daisy Ridley, who is set to return and star as Rey Skywalker, remains optimistic about the film.
It was reported last week that screenwriter Steven Knight has departed the film. Citing creative differences with Lucasfilm, the studio is searching for a new scribe. These kinds of creative changes are normal in filmmaking, especially early in the process. Still, the move left Star Wars fans nervous. Despite the writing change, the star of the upcoming movie, Ridley, has voiced her excitement.
Star Wars fans rejoiced when it was announced at the Star Wars Celebration in 2023 that the popular actress and character was set to return. Rey has had an overwhelmingly positive reaction from Star Wars faithful, including many younger girls who love to emulate the character.

Tom Bateman had just days to write the script for 'Magpie'.The 35-year-old actor is married to 'Star Wars' actress Daisy Ridley and explained that his wife initially came up with the concept for the new film - which follows a couple dealing with their young daughter becoming a movie star - but she so quickly sold the idea to producers that he was left with limited time to complete the screenplay. He told Movie Web: "Daisy had the initial idea, she was working on a movie out in Canada and she had a little girl playing her daughter. She became fascinated, children have no ability to lie or comment. They are just present. And at a point, this little girl almost believed Daisy to be her mum and Daisyw as facisnted by this blur of reality that can happen when people are creating things."So I picked her up...

Magpie stars Daisy Ridley (Star Wars) and Shazad Latif (Profile) as a couple whose seemingly idyllic life is thrown astray when their daughter is cast in a film alongside an attractive young actress. The film’s story was created by Ridley, and the screenplay was written by her husband, Tom Bateman (Murder on the Orient Express), making this a very… unique husband-and-wife collaboration.
We at FandomWire got to speak with Tom Bateman about Magpie and making the jump from acting to screenwriting. Check out the interview below!
Magpie Tom Bateman Interview
FandomWire: One of my favorite things about Magpie is that it subverts the classic trope of the femme fatale. How do you think the film challenges the audience’s expectations in this way?
Tom Bateman: I’m so glad you picked up on that because it was one of the initial driving forces behind me really loving this idea that Daisy had.

It’s quietly been a stellar year for Daisy Ridley.
She began 2024 with the critically acclaimed offbeat dramedy Sometimes I Think About Dying, only to follow it up with arguably the finest performance of her career as legendary swimmer Gertrude Ederle in Young Woman and the Sea. And she concludes this period of time with her most personal work to date, Magpie, a modern noir that she conceived and produced.
Directed by Sam Yates, the well-received Magpie chronicles the fractured marriage of Annette (Ridley) and Ben (Shazad Latif), all while their young daughter Matilda (Hiba Ahmed) acts in a period piece film. Ben, who volunteered to look after his daughter on set, then becomes infatuated with Alicia Romano (Matilda Lutz), the Italian star who’s playing Matilda’s mom in the fictional film within the film. Ben’s wandering eye is well-known, so Annette must finally decide whether she’s...

Kaley Cuoco, Chris Messina, Tom Bateman and Liana Liberato are back with more murder and mayhem in Based on a True Story season two. And this time, there’s a new pint-sized accessory in tow.
Based on a True Story is based on (or partly inspired by) a true story. The series, which satirizes true-crime tropes, introduced Cuoco and Messina as Ava and Nathan, a down-on-their-luck couple who crossed paths with an infamous serial killer, “The Westside Ripper,” in Los Angeles. Ava, a pregnant true-crime obsessive, suggested making a podcast with the killer as a way out of their marital rut.
Now, after the events of season one, season two opens with Ava and Nathan as new parents who attempt to now get out of the true-crime game — but, as the trailer shows, those aspirations are fleeting. The season opens on Ava and Nathan struggling to balance parenthood with waking away from their obsession.

When Daisy Ridley last appeared on screen in Young Woman and the Sea earlier this year, she was literally and figuratively swimming for her life. She's no longer swimming or anywhere near a large body of water in her latest film, Magpie, but her character, Anette, isn't far from drowning metaphorically if not in real -- or rather, reel -- life. As scripted with surprising, not entirely unwelcome, bluntness by screenwriter Tom Bateman's (Ridley's real-life husband), Anette fails into a familiar category, the woman on the verge of a public and/or private breakdown, of letting slip the thin veneer of societal norms, asserting her singular agency, and acting/reacting against those norms,...

Being a parent is killer — and in more ways than one for the Bartletts on “Based on a True Story.”
On Thursday, Peacock dropped the trailer for Season 2 of the comedic thriller, which finds Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan (Chris Messina) three months into parenthood and seemingly taking a hiatus from their podcast. Tory (Liana Liberato), Ava’s sister, gets engaged to Matt (Tom Bateman), who is apparently “healing” from his murdering ways. Or is he? “If you’re not killing these people, then who is?” Ava asks.
“That’s what I want to know,” he says.
The series follows Ava, a real estate agent and Nathan, a tennis pro-turned-coach, who suspect Tom, their plumber, is the Westside Ripper serial killer and decide to start a podcast with him to exploit America’s true crime obsession and solve their money problems.
