‘Good Trouble’ Co-Creator Breaks Down the Series’ Emotional Farewell
Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers from “What Now?,” the series finale of “Good Trouble,” now streaming on Hulu.
“Good Trouble,” which aired its series finale on Freeform Tuesday, has been a flagship show for the channel’s Gen-z and liberal-leaning audience since it premiered in 2018. The drama was a spinoff from “The Fosters,” a groundbreaking, foundational show for ABC Family, Freeform’s previous name before it rebranded with a heavier focus on programming for politically active 20somethings. “Good Trouble” centered on “The Fosters” characters Callie (Maia Mitchell) and Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) as they moved into a communal loft space called The Coterie in downtown Los Angeles, and began their post-grad adult lives.
Yes, the show revolved around Callie and Mariana’s personal and fledgling professional lives, but it also tackled real-life issues that affected them and their housemates. In the first season,...

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the series finale of Freeform’s Good Trouble.
Good Trouble has officially taken its final bow.
The Freeform series ended Tuesday night after five seasons, concluding more than a decade of television telling the stories of the Adams-Foster family and those closest to them. In some ways, Good Trouble ended exactly how it began — with Callie and Mariana.
Maia Mitchell rejoined Cierra Ramirez one last time for the finale, in which the residents of The Coterie find out the building is being sold and they’ll all need to move out. As they gather for a final Coterie dinner and rooftop hang, everyone reminisces on all they’ve gone through together. Callie and Mariana certainly have more than their fair share of trials, tribulations, and celebrations to reflect on.
“They’ve been working together for over 10 years, since they were 17 and 19,” showrunner and...

As someone who adores both Evan and Joaquin, a girl is hot & bothered and conflicted!
The absolute highlight of Good Trouble Season 5 Episode 19 was the movement regarding this love triangle. We're still unsure where it's supposed to land, and with no time left for this series, these complications are more nerve-wracking than ever.
Outside of that, the Silas saga still rages on, Gael finally makes a move against Yuri, and Davia gets screwed over.
We only have one installment left, and I have no idea what we're supposed to expect from the coterie gang moving forward.
Can we get closure? How much can we get by adding some scenes to an installment already in the works with a designated plan?
So much of the season has been treading through water, biding time until what? No one knows, and then we got the colossal blow that it was the final season.

What a difference a couple of years makes.
At one point, Freeform was the go-to destination for younger viewers, with shows like Pretty Little Liars giving the bigger networks a run for their money in key demographics.
These days, it seems the network is more interested in experimenting with cost-effective programming, and sadly, the shows that have been so successful up to now will be a distant memory.
Even at that, there's no telling whether scripted offerings will even be available in the future on the network or if the network will even exist.
The recent announcement that Grown-ish would wrap with the second half of its current season set the stage for change.
Over the weekend, official word broke that Cruel Summer and Good Trouble -- the network's last two scripted offerings -- would not be returning for additional seasons.

Good Trouble, a spinoff of The Fosters, joins Grown-ish in wrapping their runs on the younger-skewing cabler in 2024. Anthology Cruel Summer and Good Trouble were Freeform’s last remaining scripted originals following the November cancellation of animated comedy Praise Petey.
Sources say Freeform executives, led by executive vp programming and content strategy Simran Sethi, wanted to bring back both shows but the ratings for both Good Trouble and Cruel Summer didn’t justify the costs of doing so — especially as Disney looks to cut costs by another $2 billion — and as most viewers watch the network’s programming on Hulu.

Production on Freeform’s Good Trouble fifth season was halted for the day as a result of WGA picketing.
Deadline understands that the series was shooting on location Agua Dulce, north of Los Angeles, when IATSE and Teamsters refused to cross the picket line. It was an early-morning start, and we hear that picketing began around 4 a.m. and the set was closed around 9:30 a.m.
It comes on the eighth day of the WGA strike, which has seen thousands of writers take to the streets of Hollywood and New York in protest to the studios’ offer.
A crew of 8 WGA picketers spoke to multiple drivers who approached the line for information and then later formed a large line with their vehicles in solidarity. The situation on site was peaceful and there was overwhelming support from the WGA’s sister unions, sources tell Deadline. No teamster trucks crossed the line while picketing was ongoing.

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the Season 5 premiere of Freeform’s Good Trouble.
Maia Mitchell has returned to The Coterie — but not under happy circumstances. The Season 5 premiere of Good Trouble ends with Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) and Callie reuniting in their old shared bedroom at the co-living space after Mariana spent the night at the hospital with her former flame (and boss) Evan Speck.
The episode picked up right where Season 4 left off, with Mariana trying to escape from a cult while saving Joaquin’s sister, Jenna. Joaquin (Bryan Craig) was tipped off that Mariana was missing by a concerned Evan (T.J. Linnard), who tags along to rescue the women. In the opening minutes of the episode, someone fires a gun in an attempt to stop the group from escaping, and the bullet hits Evan in the chest.
They rush him to the hospital, where Mariana spends the night with him.

How do you prioritize your mental health in a culture that values the hustle above all else? The six young creatives at the center of Freeform’s docuseries “The Come Up” are trying to figure out the answer to just that.
“It takes a lot of energy,” 24-year-old model Fernando Casablancas told TheWrap of living and working in New York City, where they are filmed for the show that looks at their lives as they “pursue love, art and friendship on their own terms,” per Freeform.

Jazmin is getting her happily ever after in this Thursday’s episode of Freeform’s “Good Trouble.” In a sneak peek, exclusive to TheWrap, the bride walks down the aisle, beaming with joy on her big day.
Set to an instrumental version of Camila Cabello’s “Havana,” the clip features Jazmin, played by “Pose” actress Hailie Sahar, smiling as she waltzes down the aisle in a beautiful off-the-shoulder wedding gown. As she’s walking, she pauses to put her hand to her ear before waving at the crowd, encouraging them to cheer for her and her soon-to-be husband, Spencer.
The camera pans, and we see the Coterie family — including Malika (Zuri Adele), Alice (Sherry Cola), and Dennis (Josh Pence) — beaming as they clap for her. Even though she doesn’t live at The Coterie, she’s always been part of the fray as Gael’s (Tommy Martinez) sister.

Here is a wrap-up of all the news you need to know from Tuesday, August 2, 2022.
FX's turn at the Television Critics Association paved the way for some announcements about new and returning series.
We already reported on the casting of Elisabeth Moss on The Veil.
We also learned that American Horror Story Season 11 will receive its premiere in fall 2022.
There had been some questions about whether the series would return this year, given the lack of updates.
However, we should expect more concrete details about the big season in the coming weeks, including casting details and a confirmed premiere date.
The last season featured two stories -- Red Tide and Death Valley.
The former won praise from longtime fans, but the latter struggled to find its footing.
Spinoff American Horror Stories currently airs Thursdays on FX on Hulu.
As someone critical of the first season, the second is a breath of fresh air.

Freeform will continue to find Good Trouble.
The Disney-backed basic cable network used its platform at the virtual Television Critics Association’s summer press tour to announce a fifth-season renewal for its second-longest-running scripted original.
The series, a spinoff of The Fosters, ranks as one of the year’s top 10 ad-supported cable dramas among women 18-34. From exec producers Joanna Johnson, Christine Sacani, Greg Gugliotta, Jennifer Lopez, Benny Medina, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Cierra Ramirez, the drama this year weathered the departure of leading lady Maia Mitchell and co-star Beau Mirchoff.
“Freeform is evolving with young adults because we are not about an age — Freeform is an attitude,” network president Tara Duncan said in her opening TCA remarks Tuesday. “Series like Good Trouble — which I am happy to announce today is being picked up for its fifth season — and our flagship series Grown-ish and more recently Cruel Summer,...
