A police officer with memory loss re-investigating a case that he had solved, just before he had the head injury which made him unable to recall who the killer is. An ending twist so surprising and risky that it made you gasp. And a performance by a leading man vulnerable and layered enough to enable you to get past the problematic portrayal of identity. These were some of the aspects which made Rosshan Andrrews’ 2013 film Mumbai Police, starring a terrific Prithviraj Sukumaran, such a standout.

Now, 12 years later, the same director has reworked the delicious story by Bobby-Sanjay for Hindi audiences. But this version has little of that power. Deva is a diluted, labored retread.

The biggest fault line is that the remake writers — Hussain Dalal and Abbas Dalal, with Arshad Syed and Sumit Arora — have expanded and changed the narrative to serve the stardom of its lead actor.

The Deva teaser showcases Shahid Kapoor dancing at a club with high energy and intensity. Parallely, we see him performing some high-octane action sequences. By the looks of it, he plays a police officer who shows no mercy to the culprits. Watch out for one scene wherein Shahid lands some brutal kicks on a man from inside a police car. The makers of period drama San Pachhattar have decided to incorporate the speech given by India's first lady Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Set in the era of emergency, the film stars Kay Kay Menon in the lead.

In 1975 Indira Gandhi had imposed emergency in India and the country came to know about it via an announcement at an unscheduled early hour's speech of Indira Gandhi at All India Radio. This Indira Gandhi's deceleration of speech has been used in Kay Kay Menon's forthcoming release San Pachhattar. This is the first time where this speech that was given by Indira Gandhi at Air in the year 1975 is used in the film as a song. "The audio rights of the famous Indira Gandhi Emergency speech is taken from All India Radio and the video right is taken from Film Division of India as they are the sole rights holder," said producer Kabir Lovee.
