Well, that didn’t take long. Just one week after Castlevania: Nocturne premiered on Netflix, the animated series has been renewed for a second season, TVLine has learned.

“Thanks to all of the Castlevania fans old and new for the amazing response and support!” creator/showrunner/writer Clive Bradley and showrunner Kevin Kolde said in a joint statement on Friday. “We are excited to be able to bring you more Castlevania: Nocturne and the next chapter in the rise of Richter Belmont.”

“Castlevania: Nocturne” has been renewed for Season 2 at Netflix.

The news comes just over a week since the debut of the show’s first season, which launched on Netflix on Sept. 28.

“Thanks to all of the ‘Castlevania’ fans old and new for the amazing response and support!” said series creator and co-showrunner Clive Bradley and co-showrunner Kevin Kolde. “We are excited to be able to bring you more ‘Castlevania: Nocturne’ and the next chapter in the rise of Richter Belmont.”

Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort Channel has partnered with Paul Fusco, the creator of the hit ’80s sitcom “Alf,” to create new content starring the wisecracking alien. The show, which aired from 1986 to 1990, starred the titular character Alf, or “Alien Life Form,” as he lives with a human family in suburbia.

Maximum Effort and Fusco have revived Alf, along with Shout! Studios, to premiere new sponsor-driven content premiering Saturday, July 29. Painterly animation gets a new twist in Netflix’s “The Magician’s Elephant” (currently streaming), directed by VFX supervisor Wendy Rogers. Adapted from Kate Dicamillo’s 2009 children’s book about two siblings separated by war, the first-time director sought a soft aesthetic to help convey magical realism.

“When I came to the project, it already had producer Julia Pistor [‘Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events’], and they switched from live action to animation,” Rogers told IndieWire. “I met Julia and pitched my vision to Netflix and was lucky to get it.” Rogers wanted the world and overall animation style to be physically grounded, while the soft cloud-filled sky and painted texturing served as part of the magical realism.

“I think the themes that are in the book — belief in the impossible and taking action on that belief through curiosity and always questioning the world — are inspiring,” she added.

The first trailer for Netflix’s upcoming animated adventure The Magician’s Elephant teases an enchanting adaptation of Newbery-winning author Kate Dicamillo’s 2009 novel.

In a nearly two-minute first look at the animated feature premiering globally on March 17 and helmed by first-time director and animation and vfx veteran Wendy Rogers (Puss in Boots, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian), the streamer promises an emotionally heartfelt and visually stunning coming-of-age fable about the desire to connect and belong, embracing possibility and the power of hope and compassion.

“The first time I watched the movie, I was struck by the sheer beauty of it — it is a gorgeous film visually,” Dicamillo says of the Rogers-helmed adaptation. “But also, there is a real, genuine heart to the film. It is deeply moving. That is the true magic of it.”

Netflix is acquiring Australian animation studio Animal Logic, which is producing films for the streamer including “The Magician’s Elephant,” directed by Wendy Rogers, and “The Shrinking of the Treehorns,” directed by Ron Howard.

Animal Logic has about 800 employees, mostly based in Sydney and Vancouver. The acquisition “will help us accelerate the development of our animation production capabilities and reinforces our commitment to build a world-class animation studio,” Netflix said in its Q2 letter to shareholders.

The company did not disclose the purchase price for Animal Logic but said it will fund the acquisition from cash on hand. Netflix expects to close the later this year, subject to certain regulatory approvals.

Voting took place at my old elementary school this year, and the experience of walking through that building after so many years closely resembled the experience I had watching Rob Marshall’s Mary Poppins Returns. With chairs and desks much closer to the ground than I remember, many of the same faces on staff, and little changes here and there to the décor like the names underneath the appropriately amateurish artwork lining the hallways, I enjoyed seeing the old amongst the new, knowing that the students there now are probably having as much fun as I once did.

Mary Poppins Returns can’t possibly be expected to transcend its historical foundation. It’s been over half a century since the Disney original seeped its way into the collective consciousness. Julie Andrews is all but synonymous with the stern, yet cheerful magical nanny. Songs like “Spoonful of Sugar,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” and other Sherman Brothers’ creations are now musical standards. Hence, any long-in-the-making, Disney-stamped sequel will inevitably be forced to pay homage to the original and re-introduce the concept of Mary Poppins to a new generation. Mary Poppins Returns serves too many cultural and financial masters to be its own beast, so it’s forced to make space in a middle ground circumscribed by nostalgia.

The long awaited sequel to Mary Poppins, Disney’s evergreen children’s fantasy starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, came to London this evening for the premiere of Mary Poppins Returns. Emily Blunt and Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda provide the supercalifragilisticexpialidocious spoonful of sugar for the new film, which sees the grown up Banks’ children sing their hearts out and maybe feed the birds once again.

A listless Sunday afternoon of a movie that bursts with forced whimsy and synthetic optimism from the first notes of “(Underneath the) Lovely London Sky” to the last twinkles of “Nowhere to Go but Up” (an admirably bold choice of song title for any film’s big closing number), “Mary Poppins Returns” isn’t dishonest so much as it’s out of its time, like a useless clock that’s happy to be five minutes off. In fact, that analogy is something of a plot point in this long-awaited Disney sequel, which — after its daytime lullaby of an opening number — begins with the grizzled Admiral Boom (David Warner) complaining that Big Ben is running a few ticks ahead of schedule. Of course, the truth of the matter is that the crotchety old naval vet is actually lagging behind, but this is a film that would rather slow down the rest...

Lin-Manuel Miranda (Jack), who costars alongside Emily Blunt (Mary Poppins) in the upcoming Mary Poppins Returns, shines metaphorical and actual light in the film and during the film’s song “Trip a Little Light Fantastic.” Jack keeps watch over London’s gaslamp-lit streets alongside a group of lamplighters called Leeries. Back in 2014, composer-songwriter Marc Shaiman came across a vinyl copy of the “Mary Poppins” soundtrack album and created a Facebook video of himself dropping the needle onto the record, then sitting back in ecstasy. He called his video “Heaven.”

A few months later, he learned that the Walt Disney Studios was embarking on “Mary Poppins Returns,” a sequel to that 1964 classic, and he begged director Rob Marshall for the job of writing the songs (along with his co-lyricist Scott Wittman).

Repeated listens of the “Poppins” soundtrack — with its iconic, Oscar-winning tunes by brothers Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman — formed the basis of “my entire musical life,” Shaiman says. “I learned everything about songwriting, arranging, orchestrating and writing for film from the ‘Mary Poppins’ soundtrack. For the first 18 years of my life, that was my school.”

"Are you sure this is quite safe?" "Not in the slightest." Last night, Disney aired this new "Special Look" TV trailer preview for Mary Poppins Returns, starring Emily Blunt as a young Mary Poppins. It's extra fun and features a bit of singing and animation. Set in Depression-era London, a now-grown Jane & Michael Banks, along with their three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins. Through her magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, played by Lin-Manuel Miranda, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. The cast includes Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, along with Julie Walters as the Banks' housekeeper Ellen. The film also introduces three new Banks' kids which are played by Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh, and Joel Dawson. This isn't exactly a full trailer, but it is a nice compliment to the most recent full trailer from last month.

Mary Poppins Returns introduces three new Banks children, played by Pixie Davies (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children), Nathanael Saleh (Game of Thrones) and newcomer Joel Dawson alongside an established cast of Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw (Spectre), Emily Mortimer (Hugo) and Julie Walters (Harry Potter films), with Colin Firth (The King’s Speech) and Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins). Dick Van Dyke plays Mr. Dawes Jr., the chairman of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank, which is now run by William Weatherall Wilkins (Firth), and Angela Lansbury will play the Balloon Lady, a character from Pl Travers’ original children’s books.
