The project comes from 24 executive producers Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa and House creator/executive producer David Shore.

Developed by Gordon and co-produced by Fox Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television, Accused is based on the BBC’s BAFTA-winning crime anthology. It opens in a courtroom on the accused, with viewers knowing nothing about their crime or how they ended up on trial. Told from the defendant’s point of view through flashbacks, Accused depicts how an ordinary person gets caught up in an extraordinary situation, ultimately revealing how one wrong turn leads to another, until it’s too late to turn back.

The series premieres Sunday, January 22, 2023 at 9 p.

All 22,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 28 to cast their 2021 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for programs. Unlike the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally. In the past, voters were limited in the number of programs that they could put forth. Four years ago that cap (which was usually 10 per category) was lifted.

While the comedy and drama series ballots have each maintained an average of over 100 entrants in recent years, there have nearly always been fewer than 40 choices in the limited series genre. There are 37 shows on the list this year, which is down by four from last year. There were 35 in 2019, 33 in 2018, and 25 in 2017. Five series from the list below will make the cut and be announced as Emmy nominees on July 13.

Before signing on for the just-concluded third season of “The Girlfriend Experience,” writer-director Anja Marquardt was working on multiple projects set in what she calls “future-facing worlds.” Immersed in technology-driven stories to the point where she was “living and breathing” data, cybernetics, and artificial intelligence, the filmmaker behind “She’s Lost Control” is still quick to call herself a neophyte.

“To be perfectly honest, I don’t really have a background in tech at all, but I’ve always been really curious,” Marquardt said in an interview with IndieWire. “I’m a really research-driven filmmaker at heart. I really enjoy the process of unveiling for myself a world that has nothing to do with my own, [which] involves lots of research and seeking inspiration in other works of art and reading lots of stuff, like scientific papers, but also interviewing advisors.”

“We’re all struggling with the same thing,” reveals Anja Marquardt in an exclusive interview with Gold Derby about the third season of “The Girlfriend Experience” (watch the video above), on which she serves as co-executive producer, creator, director and writer. Marquardt continues, “We’re all struggling with: How far do we let algorithms into our lives? How much of who we are is being mirrored back to us and reinforced and directed (perhaps by technology)?”

This season of the escort anthology is set in London against the backdrop of artificial intelligence and deep tech, a shift from an earlier plan to adapt an unpublished novel by Allison Leotta, who “had written a piece specifically to be potentially the underlying material for season three.”

The latest incarnation of Starz’s Steven Soderbergh-created anthology series The Girlfriend Experience sees its main character Iris (Julia Goldani Telles), a neuroscience student, transported to London and into the world of deep tech and artificial intelligence. Along the way, she discovers that her side gig as an escort has some spooky parallels with her day job developing and researching AI for a tech company.

Creator, co-executive producer, director and writer Anja Marquardt explained the draw of bringing the AI concept into this show. “It’s been a long journey, very interesting,” she said during the show’s panel at Deadline’s Contenders Television awards-season event. “I was able to Trojan Horse a lot of my own interests into this third installment, and there was a tremendous freedom to start a new chapter. I brought AI, neuroscience, future-facing science – all this stuff was in my orbit these past few years.

Gravitas Ventures has acquired worldwide distribution rights to “Looks That Kill,” a black comedy starring “13 Reasons Why” actor Brandon Flynn.

Produced by American High, the film stars Flynn, Julia Goldani Telles, Ki Hong Lee (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), and Annie Mumolo.

The project comes from debut writer-director Kellen Moore, and will be available for digital purchase on June 19.

Flynn plays Max Richards, described as a “teenage boy born with a medical condition of being lethally attractive.” After meeting a young woman named Alex with a similar bizarre ailment, Max goes on a journey of self-discovery while attempting to avoid mass casualties.

American High’s Jeremy Garelick, Will Phelps, Mickey Liddell, Pete Shilaimon, Glen Trotiner, and Austin Sepulveda are producers on the film. Ryan Bennett and Michael Glassman serve as executive producers.

In a Gold Derby exclusive, we have learned the category placements of the key Emmy Awards contenders for Showtime. Treem took 90 minutes to stitch back together the fractured Solloway clan, as the philandering Noah (Dominic West) and long suffering wife Helen (Maura Tierney) find a way back to each other. Showing at this year’s Frightfest and being picked up by the Frightfest Presents label, The Wind has been well received at festivals across the globe. The last film I remember being based around the wind was The Happening, so The Wind doesn’t have much competition in those stakes.

The immediate impact The Wind had on me was that incredible score. It lead to this brief exchange with my partner after the first ten minutes or so of the movie:

My partner: “It’s a bit loud. I’ve got my headphones on and I can still hear it.”

Me: “But can you hear that score? I love it already. It’s amazing!”

My partner: “Just turn it down.”
