The oil business affects everything in the wild West Texas town of Landman, and Billy Bob Thornton is a key cog in that machine.

The second trailer for the next Taylor Sheridan series, this time about the oil business, focuses on Thornton’s Tommy Norris, a crisis manager in the oil industry, and peels back more of the relationships between the star-studded ensemble that includes Thornton, Jon Hamm, Demi Moore and Ali Larter.

“Men die, oil companies don’t,” says Tommy (Thornton) in the high-octane trailer (below), as he describes himself as “a divorced alcoholic with $500 thousand in debt” and pulls his son (Jacob Lofland) into the business.

Hamm stars in a recurring guest role as Monty Miller, a Texas oil industry titan with a long personal and professional relationship with Tommy; Moore plays Cami, the wife of another powerful oil man in Texas and friend of Norris; and Larter plays Norris’ ex-wife.

Billy Bob Thornton is putting out fires in more ways than one in the new trailer for the Paramount+ series “Landman.”

Created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, the drama is set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas and stars Thornton as Tommy Norris, a fixer at an oil company. Jon Hamm plays Monty Miller, a Texas oil industry titan who goes way back with Tommy, while Demi Moore plays Cami, Monty’s wife.

Joker: Folie à Deux's Twisted Ending Has Been Leaked and DC Fans Are Not Happy About It

Joker: Folie à Deux director Todd Phillips has previously opened up about his decision to end Arthur Fleck's journey with the sequel.

However, considering how the sequel was made possible in the first place, fans were quite skeptical about it.

According to the helmer, his tease about the ending of Joker 2 would "hopefully answer all questions" fans had about the first flick, which likely involves Arthur Fleck's backstory.

When the review embargo for Joker: Folie à Deux lifted, a couple of the trades - never ones to give spoilers a second thought - alluded to the movie's potentially divisive ending. 

The suggestion was that Arthur Fleck dies, meaning he never becomes one of Batman's greatest enemies...something which hasn't ever seemed overly likely in the grounded world filmmaker Todd Phillips and star Joaquin Phoenix have created.

Now, following an additional round of screenings, we have a better idea of why the director recently described the Joker sequel's conclusion as "unsettling" (alluding to reviews which took issue with Joker: Folie à Deux's final moments).

Bruce Wayne is still a child in Joker and Joker: Folie à Deux, so the movies naturally take place in a period before Batman. But how would Arthur Fleck react if he came face-to-face with the real Batman?

Joker: Folie à Deux director Todd Phillips has a few thoughts on the matter. “I think Arthur would be in awe of the alpha male that is Batman. I really do,” Phillips told IGN. “I think Arthur would look up and appreciate it. I think he’d be in awe of that.”

Phillips believes “Arthur always had a fascination with men at ease, and he is not a man at ease. [Robert De Niro’s] Murray Franklin in the first movie was a man at ease. He probably saw the guys he worked with as men at ease, and that was the one thing that Arthur could never be was a man at ease.

Todd Phillips’ 2019 Oscar-winning Joker did not release in China, but his sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, has been confirmed for October 16 in the market. Warner Bros’ and DC’s official Weibo accounts confirmed the date.

Joker: Folie à Deux, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in early September, debuting to a 12-minute ovation. It will begin overseas rollout on October 2 and release domestically on October 4.

As with Phillips’ first Joker, this one is R-rated, but it passed China’s censors likely due to the less overtly violent nature of the film. The first movie also came amid pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong during which some adopted the character as a symbol. The first reviews of Joker: Folie à Deux have hinted that audiences may find the ending a little divisive, and director Todd Phillips is all too aware of how some fans will react.

“For the people that have seen this movie in general … at the end, they sit and they don’t move for about three to five minutes,” Phillips said during a Q&a (via /Film). “Then they text me, the ones that know me, or email me and go, ‘I need a minute to process the movie.’” Phillips added, “I think it’s going to leave you with a very unsettling … I think it’s unsettling.” Certain outlets appear to have outright spoiled the ending for Joker: Folie à Deux in their reviews, so the reason for this potential reaction is easy to find, but I won’t be sharing it here.

Welcome to the world of oil. Those are the ominous words that end the first trailer for “Landman,” Taylor Sheridan’s new drama series starring Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm and Demi Moore. The show will premiere its first two episodes on Paramount+ Nov. 17.

“The oil and gas industry makes $3 billion a day in pure profit. And it’s only getting bigger,” Thornton’s Tommy Norris says in the opening of the trailer. He then outlines that to make that money, you need to do two things: secure the land and manage the people.

“First part’s pretty simple. It’s the second part that can get you killed,” Tommy says.

After he drops that bomb, disaster strikes. Dynamic shots of men in suits boarding private planes and Tommy in his cowboy hat are replaced by a scene of workers on an oil rig. The trailer then cuts to blast as the sound drops out.

The first trailer for Taylor Sheridan’s Landman shows a high-powered ensemble cast sparring over the oil business in West Texas.

Accompanying Phillips at the screening of the Warner Bros./DC film were stars Joaquin Phoenix, who won the Best Actor Oscar for his turn in the first film, and Lady Gaga.

The audience applauded, along with the sounds of “Brava”, whistling and chants for stars “Gaga” and “Joaquin” echoing throughout the theatre.
