The Way We Speak, Ian's first feature-length film as writer-director, is a modern cautionary tale starring 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee Patrick Fabian (Better Call Saul). The film is 94% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with Matt Zoller Seitz of Roger Ebert saying "The Way We Speak has been compared to the work of Aaron Sorkin. The comparison fits. Ebright is ruthless in the best way." Among the film's awards, Ian won Outstanding Writer of a Narrative Feature at the 2024 Anchorage International Film Festival.
Prior to The Way We Speak, Ian wrote and directed the award-winning short films Pinwheel Horizon, The Devil Needs a Fix, and From the Sky.
Set on a barren planet, Pinwheel Horizon is a minimalist sci-fi/fantasy described as a "powerful, thought-provoking piece that deserves to be seen" by Short Films Matter. Pinwheel Horizon won the Award of Excellence at the 2023 Accolade Global Film Competition for Directing, Lead Actress, Ensemble Cast, and Editing.
American Cinematheque called The Devil Needs a Fix "deliciously intriguing...a sophisticated dark comedy with an edge." The film played festivals including HollyShorts and was named one of Film Shortage's favorite fantasy short films of 2018.
Cinephilia & Beyond described Ian's first short From the Sky as "brilliant...an amazing and pioneering film." The Arabic-language narrative thriller won the International Humanitarian Award grand prize at the 2014 Rhode Island International Film Festival, aired on PBS, and featured in MovieMaker magazine.
