- Actress
Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, with the spirit of performance in her blood, Althea spent her adolescent years studying dance at N.O.C.C.A.'s after school dance program. While attending McDonogh #35 Senior High School in New Orleans, she was a part of the New Orleans Public Schools Talented in the Arts Theatre Program for students gifted in performing arts. Althea also found her love for musical theatre appearing in multiple NORD Theatre productions as Frastrada in Pippin, Lola in Damn Yankees, and Ronnette in Little Shop of Horrors to name a few. Althea was also a prominent member of 1+Productions founded by mentor and local New Orleans performer and educator, Leo E. Jones. Her love of dance was reinvented with the opening of Harrah's Casino becoming a part of the "Fat Tuesday Celebration" parade and show featured nightly in the casino. Althea continued dancing professionally and eventually joined the national tour of Sesame Street Live portraying characters Ernie, Hoots, Oscar the Grouch and Snuffy. With the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, Althea was displaced to Atlanta, Georgia but did not leave the stage behind. In Atlanta, she would find herself back on stage in Galaxy Music Theatre's production of Smokey Joe's Cafe and Dreamgirls as Michelle. While in Atlanta, Althea earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Drama with a minor in Dance from Spelman College and expanded her love of acting to the television and film world. Working on multiple TV/Film projects in Atlanta and surrounding areas has been a blessing to her performance DNA. Althea now divides her time between her home in New Orleans, working in Atlanta with travels from LA to New York.
