Freeform has canceled its “Party of Five” reboot after one season.

The decision comes more than a month after the series aired its finale on March 4.

The reboot was an immigration-themed update to the 1990s drama and centered on the Acosta children after their parents are suddenly deported back to Mexico. It was produced by Sony TV and was from original series’ creators Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman.

It starred Brandon Larracuente, Emily Tosta, Niko Guardado and Elle Paris Legaspi. Bruno Bichir and Fernanda Urrejola played the Acosta parents.

Freeform president Tom Ascheim, who greenlit the series and developed the modern update of the former Fox drama with now-abc entertainment president Karey Burke, is set to depart the network this summer. He will move to Warner Bros. to handle the studio’s children and young adults programming.

Freeform has decided not to renew its “Party of Five” reboot for a second season.

The one-hour drama followed the five Acosta children as they navigated daily life struggles to survive as a family unit after their parents are suddenly deported to Mexico. It starred Brandon Larracuente as Emilio, Emily Tosta as Lucia, Niko Guardado as Beto and Elle Paris Legaspi as Valentina.

“Party of Five” ended its single-season run in early March, and averaged only 250,000 Live+Same Day viewers, making it one of the Disney-owned networks least watched shows this season. Only season 1 of “Everything’s Gonna Be Okay” and season 4 of “The Bold Type” were watched by a smaller audience.

The series hailed from original “Party of Five” creators Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman. Keyser and Lippman served as writers and executive producers. Michal Zebede wrote and co-executive produced. Rodrigo Garcia executive produced and directed the pilot. Sony Pictures Television Studios produced the series.

Freeform is cancelling the Acosta family’s Party of Five reservation, opting not to renew the immigration-themed reboot for Season 2, TVLine has confirmed.

Party of Five premiered in early January to 442,000 total viewers and a 0.21 demo rating, then pretty steadily declined over its entire 10-episode run, with its finale drawing 143,000 viewers and a (wait for it) 0.05 demo rating.

Like most Freeform shows, Party of Five failed to get much traction in the ratings. It started with 442,000 viewers and a 0.21 rating.

Freeform has set January premiere dates for new seasons of Grown-ish and The Bold Type and the midseason return of Good Trouble.

The Season 3 premiere of Black-ish spinoff Grown-ish will serve as the lead-in for the previously dated new comedy Everything’s Gonna Be Okay at 8 p.m. Thursday, January 16. The following week will see the fourth-season launch of The Bold Type taking over the 9 p.m. Thursday slot.

At first glance, the show seems like it should be on ABC Family, the network that came before Freeform.

Freeform unveiled trailers for three of its upcoming shows during the network’s portion of the Disney upfront presentation on Tuesday.

In addition to a trailer for the upcoming “Party of Five” reboot, the cable network also debuted an extended look at the supernatural drama “Motherland: Fort Salem,” which takes place at an academy for witches training to be in the American military, and a trailer for the Josh Thomas-created comedy “Everything’s Gonna Be Okay.”

None of the three series have premiere dates, though they join a growing slate of Freeform originals, which includes the spinoffs “Good Trouble,” “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists” and the college-set “Grown-ish”; the mermaid drama “Siren,” which was renewed for a third season on Tuesday; “The Bold Type”; Marvel’s “Cloak & Dagger”; and the upcoming Kenya Barris comedy “Unrelated.”

Freeform unveiled a surprise panel Tuesday morning at TCA with their forthcoming reboot of Party of Five with producers Michal Zebede, Amy Lippman, Chris Keyser as well as 4 out of the 5 members of the titular party including Brandon Larracuente, Emily Tosta, Niko Guardado, and Elle Paris Legaspi. Freeform is giving new life to “Party of Five,” but fans shouldn’t expect to see much crossover between the original series and the reboot, original series creators Amy Lippman and Chris Keyser said.

The new reboot takes the original premise — five children living without their parents — and updates it for the current political environment by turning those kids from orphans to a family of immigrants whose parents have been deported.

“We’ve had lots of opportunities to revisit the story and we waited until there was a good reason to do it,” Lippman told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour on Tuesday. “As we began to see stories like this on the front page of every newspaper, we began to realize what was originally the story of five orphans 25 years ago had sort of transmogrified into the story of these kids who are living without their parents in a very real way.

Amy Lippman and Chris Keyser, the creators of the Party of Five TV show from the '90s, are bringing the series back to television with a new twist. In the original Fox series (pictured above), the five Salinger siblings become orphans when their parents are killed in an accident caused by a drunk driver.

In the new version, which will air on Freeform, the five Acosta kids must learn to make it on their own when their parents are deported to Mexico. The series stars Brandon Larracuente, Emily Tosta, Niko Guardado, and Elle Paris Legaspi.
