As the makers have announced the second season of survival drama ‘Kaala Paani’, Rakesh Yadav, the production designer, who brought the sets of the show alive opened up about the set of specific moments or set pieces that he is particularly proud of, and also revealed the creative process behind them.
The production designer shared: ” ‘Kaala Paani’ is very close to my heart, to pick any particular scene would be a cruelty to other scenes. I would say that the final look and feel that we achieved with the creation of the interiors of a Japanese bunker is something I am very proud of.”

Kaala Paani is a 2023 Indian drama series directed by Amit Golani and Sameer Saxena. The series stars Mona Singh, Ashutosh Gowariker, and Sukant Goel.
“Kaala Paani” is an engaging ensemble series that revolves around multiple protagonists who find themselves caught up in a situation. Their interconnected stories, driven by conflict and an epidemic, serve as the narrative backbone of this compelling television series from India.
This well-developed series maintains a deliberate and almost reflective pace. Don’t expect Hollywood-style sequences with grand effects like in a blockbuster film. Instead, it focuses on the characters, delving into their psychology and personal stories while intertwining them with the conflict of the unleashed epidemic and its resolution.
Plot
On a picturesque island in India called Jenkins, an epidemic breaks out in the waters. The population becomes isolated, leading to a violent situation.

It is after a long time that jazz wizardry is unleashed as a binding element and the mode of continuity and soul of R D Burman would be mightily pleased that one of his iconic songs is now the title of a film.
Monica O My Darling is a film that unleashes the prowess of Huma Qureshi as an actor par excellence who can carry a film on her shoulders with panache. As a follow up of Maharani-2, Huma Qureshi has underlined the seamless manner in which she can slip into roles of characters and make a success out of it.
Mounted on the platform of a noir film, Monica O My Darling is a fast-paced thriller which has the potential to captivate the audience and keep them riveted till the end of the movie. While Raj Kumar Rao is the main hero, the film rides more on the...

Monica, O My Darling(Netflix)
Directed by Vasan Bala
Somewhere in the acquisitive amoral chaos of Vasan Bala’s twisted kingdom, Rajkummar Rao and Huma Qureshi, playing two of the most shamelessly self-serving jerks in recent cinematic history, are down on the floor, wrestling with an Usha Uthup pretender singing ‘Loving You So Much I Want To Kill You.’
Yes, physically wrestling, until one of them is almost dead.
It is a deliciously demonic moment defining the gender-proof nature of human greed. When you are so money-minded that your conscience has gone for a call of nature, then be prepared to battle it out man-to-man, even if you are a woman.
Alas, such delightfully epiphanic moments are hard to come by in Vasant Bala’s first directorial deep-dive since Mard Ko Dard Nahin into the bowels of eccentricity. Playing a dude who doesn’t feel any physical pain no matter...

The trailer of the upcoming streaming movie ‘Monica, O My Darling’ was unveiled on Monday. The event was hosted by writer Varun Grover, who has written ‘Masaan’. The trailer, marked with the eponymous iconic track of R D Burman, presents a perfectly sketched who-dunnit thriller and follows the events around a murder and the disposing off of a body.
The trailer, which has oodles of humour, has been smartly cut as it doesn’t reveal anything and keeps the viewers guessing till the end and lingers on the mind long after it gets over.
It shows the enigmatic character of Huma Qureshi calling the shots as a murder mystery unfolds with the needle of doubt pointed at every single character involved in the story. A dead body and three men who set out to dispose it off, trigger the mystery and the drama that ensues.

The film is a neo-noir crime-drama thriller directed by Vasan Bala, who has earlier made films like ‘Peddlers’ and ‘Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota’, and has served as Anurag Kashyap’s associate on his films in the past.
The team of ‘Monica, O My Darling’ joined Films Day and spoke to the audience about working together, the unique genre and what went behind the making of the film.
Commenting on the occasion, Vasan Bala said: “‘Monica, O My Darling’ has been a dream project for me and we...

Dobaaraa
Starring Taapsee Pannu, Pavail Gulati, Rahul Bhat
Directed by Anurag Kashyap
Time travel has always been tricky on screen. It has never looked more tangled and confounding than Dobaaraa, a time-travel saga trapped in transit, and so frozen in its own inner conflicts that one feels all travel should be banned indefinitely.
Taapsee Pannu wakes up one morning looking suitable bewildered. We know the feeling. It’s the confusion we felt after watching Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet. The puzzle piles up quicker than rubble at a construction site. It is up to us to pick our way through the stockpile of confusions.
Essentially the plot is a mindboggler. There is a 12-year old boy from the 1990s who connects with Taapsee Pannu twenty years later through an old television set. Their bonding is a mix of déjà vu and dejaa-more-confusion.
In this way Doordarshan meets time travel in...

Film: ‘Dobaaraa’ (Releasing in theatres). Duration: 132 minutes.
Director: Anurag Kashyap. Cast: Taapsee Pannu, Rahul Bhat, Pavail Gulati and Sukant Goel.
Ians rating: ***1/2
Anurag Kashyap has returned ‘dobara’ (once again) with ‘Dobaaraa’, two years after his last streaming movie ‘Choked’ on Netflix. The film not just marks his reunion with his ‘Manmarziyaan’ actress Taapsee Pannu, but also marks his return to the genre of thrillers, his last outing being the Vicky Kaushal and Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’.
The film is an official remake of the Spanish mystery-drama film ‘Mirage’.
Kashyap, who is known for his offbeat stories, doesn’t miss a beat in the film as he sketches up a fine thriller that will keep you hooked till the last frame and will linger in your thoughts long after you have stepped out of the cinema.
The treatment rendered to the film is such that you...

Anurag Kashyap’s Dobaaraa featuring Taapsee Pannu and Pavail Gulati is an official remake of the 2018 Spanish film ‘Mirage’. The film could find a slot in the time travel zone or going by the last scene, it could be a ‘Baar Baar Dekho Returns’. This time around Anurag Kashyap has dabbled with the latest global fad with the term ‘multiverse’ or ‘parallel universe’ or still a ‘time travel’ of sorts. It seems Taapsee is also got into a time loop what with Looop Lapeta and now this.
Dobaaraa is this multi-temporal film, even the title has layered implications; Dobaaraa means ‘again’ as also ‘Do (2) Baaraa (12)’, which is important to the premise, with characters simultaneously existing in parallel universes and manipulating events in the past to alter the future.
Anurag seems to have retained the basic (Mirage) plot and adapted it to the Indian mindset, who may not be too comfortable...

“The Masked Talent,” a new format from Korea’s Mbc, creators of global hit “The Masked Singer,” is currently in production.
Unlike the celebrity-driven “The Masked Singer” and spin-off “The Masked Dancer,” where the focus is on who is behind the mask, “The Masked Talent” is a non-celebrity masked audition format concentrating on singing skills and talents. Two episodes, to be broadcast on the Mbc channel during the Chuseok Korean Thanksgiving holidays, invites the audience to participate.
“The purpose of the show is to present the audience with the unique experience to become the masked hero and perform their showmanship,” said Park Jeong-Kyu, chief producer of “The Masked Singer” and “The Masked Talent.” “With prejudice and bias out of the way, the contestants will be judged solely by their genuine voice and talent.”
The show was co-developed by Mbc and France’s Herve Hubert, the production house for the French “Mask Singer,...

Sinister. Diabolic. Macabre. Wicked. Those are the respective moods Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee and Karan Johar broadly bank upon, to thrill with their latest collaborative attempt. "Ghost Stories" is guaranteed to send a chill down your spine that should make the ongoing searing winter a tad more discomforting, and if you are a true-blue horror buff you won't complain.
Horror is a restrictive genre. Traditionally, it is associated with whipping up loud, quickfix tricks that guarantee instant scares, which is why script, performances and originality often take a backseat. It is a reason A-list artistes and filmmakers normally desist from participating in the genre.
"Ghost Stories" marks an exciting departure from that rule in Bollywood, what with four of the industry's most highly-regarded contemporary directors coming together to spin four scary tales that bear no connection with each other. Since this bunch has struck winners with "Bombay Talkies" and "Lust Stories" before this,...

NetflixKaran Johar's segment is a disappointment while the other three films are interesting if not scary.Saraswati DatarI'm the kind of person who gets scared of moths and sparrows. Suffice to say, I was frightened at the prospect of being frightened while watching and reviewing Netflix’s film Ghost Stories, a follow up to 2018's Lust Stories. The four stories directed by Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee and Karan Johar appear in that order on-screen. The four directors, none of whom have directed a horror film, expand the scope of the genre and question whether what scares us always lies outside of us. Things get off to a good start with Zoya's technically brilliant tale. She builds the feeling of dread and uneasiness experienced by Sameera (Janhvi Kapoor), a nurse sent to look after a bedridden patient (Surekha Sikri). The home and dementia struck patient have both seen happier days,...
