Jesse Mast(I)
- Writer
- Director
- Producer
From an early age, whenever he could get a hold of a video camera, Jesse Mast was making films. Whether it was sewing costumes, building props, and gathering neighborhood friends as actors, he was always creating some kind of movie. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with an art major. Eventually, Jesse and his wife moved to France, and he was fortunate to travel around the country as a videographer. For a few years, they lived in the southern French city of Montpellier.
While there, he directed his first dramatic short film, "Les Esclaves" (The Slaves), a period piece about slaves in ancient Italy. He spent six months making the costumes, props, and gathering French friends to play the roles. Les Esclaves was filmed entirely on location at the St. Peter Cathedral of Maguelone in southern France. It won best short film at the Buffalo Niagara International Film Festival in 2014. The festival's director helped Jesse produce another short film, "The Just," starring Quentin Tarantino favorite Michael Madsen. Jesse is now developing his first feature film. He and his wife live in St. Paul, Minnesota.
