The historical fantasy series “My Lady Jane” garnered a loyal fanbase during its one season run on Amazon Prime Video. However, fans were disappointed when Amazon canceled the show in August after only one season. Supporters have since launched an online campaign to revive the program.
Multiple petitions asking Amazon to renew the series for a second season have received tens of thousands of signatures. On social media, the hashtag #SaveMyLadyJane has been widely shared. Fans have also organized a crowdfunding campaign through GoFundMe. While Amazon has not commented on the campaign, the large response indicates the deep connection viewers felt toward the show.
The chemistry between the lead actors, Emily Bader and Edward Bluemel, who played Jane and Guildford, helped drive the show’s popularity. In a past interview, Bader recalled her initial audition process took months to hear back, and she landed the role after returning from vacation.

Diana Bishop got her philosophy doctorate at the University of Oxford, she’s one of the youngest ever to be tenured at Yale, and she’s a published author. She’s also a witch — but she’d prefer to ignore that part of her identity. She’s not well-versed in magic, and she’d like to keep it that way. In fact, she can barely control her powers. But when a research fellowship brings her back to Oxford, England, and she stumbles upon a centuries-old manuscript that every supernatural creature is salivating to get their hands on, it puts her in grave danger. Luckily, she finds protection from an unlikely source: an elusive vampire. The fantasy series A Discovery of Witches, based on the All Souls book series by Deborah Harkness, stars Teresa Palmer, Matthew Goode, and Edward Bluemel.

This is why we can’t have nice things. Prime Video dropped all eight episodes of My Lady Jane on June 27, right before the Fourth of July weekend for those in the U.S. and smack dab in the middle of summer vacation. The series, based on the book written by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows, only had a few weeks to build momentum until the Summer Olympics began, which dominated all television coverage across the globe. Less than two months after its release and in the midst of a tough summer TV landscape, My Lady Jane was cut off at the neck and canceled before it could really get a chance to thrive. Could My Lady Jane get a second chance? Well, Dudleys never say die. I’m standing in solidarity with my fellow Lady Jane fans and manifesting the show being rescued just like Jane (Emily Bader...

Romance? Check. Enemies to lovers? Check. Plot driven story with fantastical elements? Check. A strong female lead? Check. An epic Princess Bride moment? Check. Literally, My Lady Jane checks all the boxes in what could make a show a great production and one enjoyable for viewers. So I can't understand why Prime Video has decided to cancel this exceptional series. It's a huge disappointment.

My Lady Jane will not return for a second season. Prime Video has cancelled the historical fiction series after eight episodes. The entire first season was released by the streamer on June 27th.
The series is a radical retelling of English royal history. In this version, King Henry VIII's son Edward does not die of tuberculosis, Lady Jane Grey is not beheaded, and neither is her rascal husband Guildford. At the center of the series is the brilliant and headstrong Jane (Emily Bader), who is shocked to be crowned queen overnight and finds herself the target of nefarious villains coming for the crown (and her head).
The rest of the cast includes Edward Bluemel, Jordan Peters, Dominic Cooper, Anna Chancellor, Rob Brydon, Jim Broadbent, Henry Ashton, Isabella Brownson, Robyn Betteridge, Kate O'Flynn, Abbie Hern, Máiréad...

Amazon Prime Video has cancelled the historical fantasy series “My Lady Jane” after its first season failed to attract enough viewers. The show, which premiered June 27 with all eight episodes released at once, told a revisionist tale of Lady Jane Grey, England’s queen for nine days in 1553.
Based on the young adult novels by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows, “My Lady Jane” blended elements of different genres to retell the traditional historical narrative from a new perspective. It featured humans called Ethians who could transform into animals and placed Lady Jane in a leading role as she sought to control her own destiny.
Despite an ensemble cast led by Emily Bader as Lady Jane Grey and Edward Bluemel as Lord Guildford Dudley, and production from experienced talent like Jamie Babbit and executive producers Gemma Burgess and Meredith Glynn, the show failed to break into Nielsen’s top ten streaming rankings.

Like the real Jane Grey, the reign of My Lady Jane turned out to be a short one.
Amazon’s Prime Video has canceled the period drama, which combined romance and alternate-world fantasy. The cancellation comes about seven weeks after Prime Video released all eight episodes of the show’s first (and now only) season.
My Lady Jane, based on a novel by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows, is set in a 16th century England where humans co-exist with shape-shifters who can take the form of either people or animals. Jane Grey (Emily Bader) is an ordinary human, known as a Verity, who becomes sympathetic to the oppressed shape-shifters, known as Ethians — which will become a problem for the ruling class as Jane rises to power.
Edward Bluemel, Rob Brydon, Dominic Cooper, Anna Chancellor, Jordan Peters, Kate O’Flynn, Henry Ashton, Jim Broadbent and Ollie Chris (who narrates) star alongside Bader.

Exclusive: Prime Video has opted not to renew My Lady Jane for a second season. The news comes seven weeks after all eight episodes from the show’s first season were binge released with little promotion June 27.
The news is not entirely surprising. Creatively, My Lady Jane has done well. Despite taking a very big swing with a premise that crosses genres that don’t normally co-exist — historical romance, fantasy, adventure, comedy and farce — it has been among the best reviewed new series this year. But it didn’t find a broad enough audience, never landing on Nielsen’s Top 10 weekly streaming rankings for originals.

It’s officially horse girl (and boy) summer. My Lady Jane is the steamy and swoon-worthy series that’s captured our hearts this summer, mainly due to its charismatic cast. Emily Bader, Edward Bluemel, and Jordan Peters stopped by TV Insider’s studio to play a round of “Most Likely To,” and they did not disappoint. Who is most likely to be an Ethian? Who is most likely to forget to text someone back? The trio didn’t hold back on their answers. The cast’s chemistry was on full display while dishing out their opinions. When asked who is most likely to laugh during a take, both Bader and Peters agreed it’s probably them. “I’m a consummate professional, and I would never break,” Bluemel quipped, which made Peters laugh. When it comes to who is most likely to forget to text someone back, Bluemel quickly pointed to Bader.

Amazon Prime Video has come up with its own fancier version of Bridgerton. The only difference would be that My Lady Jane uses real-life characters from history. The makers, however, have taken an alternate historical approach, which would mean there are some liberties taken in the context of some major characters, and their life stories may have been altered to suit the narrative. Set in England after the death of the promiscuous King Henry VIII, his last surviving children are still in court, and one of them wants the throne to themselves.

I hope you’ve worked up an appetite this week, because new episodes of FX’s culinary-themed comedy “The Bear” have arrived at long last.
The highly anticipated third season of the Emmy-winning show, which is now streaming on Hulu, takes a beat with a dramatic premiere anchored by flashbacks before the second episode picks up in the aftermath of the emotionally tumultuous Season 2 finale, which saw the soft opening of the restaurant but the likely end of Carmy’s (Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White) relationship with Claire (Molly Gordon). Despite the super-charged atmosphere of the early episodes, this might just be the series’ funniest season yet. So take that, everyone who ever complained the show wasn’t actually a comedy!

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the My Lady Jane Season 1 finale.] Lady Jane Grey (Emily Bader) is freed from the confines of her history in My Lady Jane’s first season. Instead of a typical period drama chronicling the doomed queen’s nine-day reign and eventual beheading, the Prime Video romantic comedy series gives the historical heroine a different ending. In Episode 8 of the first season, it seems as if the show will follow the history books and execute Jane. Instead, that’s where her story really begins. Just as the executioner is about to lay down his sword on Jane’s head, Susanna (Máiréad Tyers), in her Ethian form, saves her best friend from a grisly fate. Still alive, Jane races to Guildford’s (Edward Bluemel) side before he burns at the stake. After palpable sexual tension and a slow burn for the ages, Jane confesses her love for Guildford as fire and chaos rage...

In the 16th century, Lady Jane Grey was briefly queen of England but met a tragic fate when, just nine days after taking the throne, she was overthrown and later executed at the age of 16. But what if the story didn’t have to end that way? The new Prime Video series My Lady Jane explores what could have been if Jane’s reign continued and she lived to rule another day, with more than a few unexpected twists.
In this reimagining, England is divided not only politically but also between regular humans and a people called the Ethians, who have the remarkable ability to shapeshift into animals. Jane herself comes from a noble family but dreams of a life outside the strict rules of her time. That seems impossible when her ambitious mother betrothes her to a man against her will. But fate has more in store when Jane...

[Editor’s note: The following article contains spoilers for a big twist in “My Lady Jane,” which is revealed about 10 minutes into Episode 1.]
Watching the trailer for “My Lady Jane,” the pseudo-feminist alt-Tudor history show based on the bestselling 2016 YA novel of the same name, you’d be forgiven for assuming the plot.
In real life, Lady Jane Grey, alongside her husband Guildford Dudley, was executed months after a mere nine days on the throne in 1553. In the opening seconds of the Prime Video show, the modern British narrator of “My Lady Jane” asks: “What if history were different?”
What if, indeed. Instead of immediate death, in the first few moments of the show teenage Jane (newcomer Emily Bader) is a smart medical gal, curing her friend’s 16th century Sti. She’s then told she’ll have to marry for a political alliance. Instead, she grabs her maid, Susannah (Máiréad Tyers), and attempts to make a run for it. The duo are immediately caught,...

“My Lady Jane” may be chock full of corsets but this is not your average bodice ripper. A feminist retelling of the life of Lady Jane Grey – famous for being on the throne for a mere nine days before she got the chop (literally) – the series stars Emily Bader as a kickass Jane who dreams of running away from her overbearing mother and forced marriage to write a compendium about medicinal herbs.
The show, which drops today on Prime Video and is based on the books of the same name, also contains plenty of cursing (not the magical kind), anachronisms and a sprinkle of romantasy (a sub-plot involves persecution of people who can turn into animals at will). So it’s not surprising that showrunners Gemma Burgess and Meredith Glynn took delight in peppering the show with both Tudor and pop culture references including, in no particular order, Mark Smeaton...

Most movies and shows about the history of humankind are not accurate. Facts and events are distorted and rearranged to elicit certain emotional responses that align with the biases of the director or showrunner in question. And history buffs just love to nitpick them to hell, especially if said biases are a tad bit toxic in nature. But I think the subgenre that really drives them nuts is the alternate fantasy-history subgenre. For example, there’s Watchmen, which reimagined everything from the Cold War to the Vietnam War. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter turned the famous President into a killer of bloodsuckers. The X-Men films, MonsterVerse films, MCU films, Back to the Future films, and the Bill & Ted films have toyed with many historical figures. Shows like Fallout and Renegade Nell have done the same on the small screen. And, now, My Lady Jane has joined this illustrious list by...

It’s probably fair to say that every single drama about the Tudor dynasty would like you to know it’s not like all those other dramas about the Tudor dynasty. This one is steamier, or more emotionally intimate; that one features nontraditional casting or focuses on a less famous figure. So I’ll say this for Prime Video’s My Lady Jane: This one, really and truly, is not like the others. Sure, there are crowns and pretty ballgowns and cool sword fights and castles; as ever, the plot hinges on noble conspiracies and threats of beheading. But it also features a twist that sends it careening so far away from established reality, one wonders why it pretends to be about the Tudors at all.

Prime Video‘s new series My Lady Jane, which is inspired by the best-selling book of the same name, arrives June 27 and we have an exclusive first look at one of the steamy exchanges between the titular Lady Jane Grey (Emily Bader) and her scoundrel of a husband Guilford (Edward Bluemel). In the sneak peek clip, above, the pair trek through the woods alone at night in search of something yet-to-be-revealed when Guilford turns to Jane, stopping them in their tracks to say, “I’m here because you asked me to help you. So let me. I know a shortcut. We’ll reach the Ethian camp and surprise them.” Prime Video “Fine,” Jane says, with some attitude in her voice. In a move where Guilford seemingly tries to impress his bride, he says, “You’ll need a dagger. Luckily, I have a spare,” as he pulls one from a hidden location to hand over.

Prime Video has released the first photos from My Lady Jane, the quick-witted romantic new series set in an alt-fantasy Tudor world. The series will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on Thursday, June 27, in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.
Inspired by the best-selling book, My Lady Jane is a radical retelling of English royal history, in which King Henry VIII’s son Edward does not die of tuberculosis, Lady Jane Grey is not beheaded, and neither is her rascal of a husband, Guildford.
At the center of this rollicking new series is the brilliant and headstrong Jane, who is unexpectedly crowned queen overnight and finds herself the target of nefarious villains coming for the crown (and her head)… My Lady Jane is an epic tale of true love and high adventure, where the damsel in distress saves herself, her true love, and then the Kingdom.
