Prey, also known as Indigenous, follows a group of tourists as they travel to the paradise of Panama for their post-graduation vacation. After meeting a few locals, the five friends decide to check out a supposedly magical waterfall deep in the jungle, despite others warning them of the lurking indigenous Chupacabras. After their guide vanishes, the group soon find they have fallen prey to something stalking them in the jungle.

In this day and age of instant gratification, the fact that a movie has taken two years to finally see the light of day in the UK – especially given how fast non-theatrical titles hit VOD these days – is usually a bad omen. A particular sub-set of travel horror exists to scare people away from real-life attractions with no regard for whether any threat actually exists. Films such as The Ruins, Chernobyl Diaries, and As Above, So Below gladly exploit a Mayan temple, the long-abandoned city of Pripyat, Ukraine, and the Paris Catacombs, respectively, as forbidden sites harboring contained evils lying in wait for unsuspecting victims – nevermind that countless tourists have managed to visit these places without incident.

The latest victim of this trend is the Darién Gap, a dense rainforest region located between Panama and Colombia. A group of friends fight for their survival against a legendary monster in the new Tribeca Film Festival trailer for the upcoming film, ‘Indigenous.’ The Tribeca Midnight title, which was directed by Alastair Orr, will have its world premiere at the New York City festival next Sunday, April 20 at 9:45pm. The premiere will be held at the Bow Tie Cinemas 8 (260 W. 23rd St, between 7th and 8th Aves). Synopsis
