Sy Burgess

Sy Burgess is a character actor whose unique character presentation
might best be described as a jester/caregiver. While Sy excels at
improvisation and sketch comedy, he has also portrayed historic,
dramatic and Shakespearian roles. Sy has performed in film, on
television and on stages in New York, New England, Moscow and Baku.
Past work includes Saturday Night Live, New York Theatre Workshop,
American Repertory Theatre, the Times Square Cafe, New York Comedy
Club, 13th St. Repertory, Home, Castillo Cultural Center, and The
Little Flags Theatre Company.
Sy received his SAG card resulting from an AFTRA upgrade while appearing on Saturday Night Live as a plus size decoy Michael Jackson. Sy honed his improv comedy skills for over 5 years as a member of Grown Ups' Playground and Improv Knights -- performing at New York Comedy Club and Times Square Cafe. On the New York stage Sy has appeared at NY Theatre Workshop, The Trilogy Theatre, Thirteenth Street Repertory Theatre, Horace Mann Theatre, The Beacon Theatre, Cafe Experimental, Home and Castillo Cultural Center. Working in regional theatre Sy toured throughout New England with Little Flags Theatre Company, including a co-production of Boston Remembers with American Repertory Theatre at Hasty Pudding Club. Sy also toured Moscow and Baku with Little Flags Theatre Company.
Sy's training includes work with Ted Sluberski, Scott Freeman, Stella Adler Acting Conservatory, Groundling School East and Emerson College. Sy holds a BS in Broadcasting and Film from Boston University and an MS in Instructional Technology from NYIT -- the latter with distinction for a thesis on the use of video technology in training actors.
