Possession horror is on trend this year, and that looks to continue with Judgment of the Dead. THR reports that the upcoming horror movie will star Mohamed Karim and give an Egyptian spin on the possession formula.

Karim will star and produce Judgment of the Dead. Stuart Ford’s AGC will co-produce with Karim’s Mk Global Entertainment.

The actor will play “Dr. Sherif Hawass, a renowned Egyptologist who must save the world, and the woman he loves, after an artifact he unearths releases an ancient evil.”

Thomas M. Hewlett wrote the screenplay for Judgement of the Dead based on Karim’s original idea.

Interestingly, Judgment of the Dead was initially announced in 2021, under the title Book of Chaos, as a Dark Castle Entertainment feature. Dark Castle initially launched in 1998 by Joel Silver, Robert Zemeckis and Gilbert Adler and most recently produced Simon Barrett’s directorial debut, Seance, and last year’s Orphan: First Kill.

AGC Studios is partnering with Mohamed Karim’s Mk Global Entertainment to produce the possession thriller Judgment Of The Dead.

AGC chairman and CEO Stuart Ford will serve as producer alongside Karim on the story of Dr. Sherif Hawass (Karim), a renowned Egyptologist who must save the world and the woman he loves after he unknowingly releases an ancient evil found in one of his artifacts.

Thomas M. Hewlett wrote the screenplay based on Karim’s original idea. AGC International will handle worldwide rights.

Egyptian actor Mohamed Karim is teaming up with Hit Man producer AGC Studios on Judgment of the Dead, a possession thriller with an Egyptian spin, with Stuart Ford’s AGC will co-produce with Karim’s Mk Global Entertainment.

Karim, a major star in the Middle East, who has appeared in such indie actioners as A Score to Settle alongside Nicolas Cage and A Day to Die with Bruce Willis and Frank Grillo, will produce and star in Judgement of the Dead, playing Dr. Sherif Hawass, a renowned Egyptologist who must save the world, and the woman he loves, after an artifact he unearths releases an ancient evil. Thomas M. Hewlett penned the screenplay to Judgement of the Dead based on Karim’s original idea.

Karim is known across the Middle East for his roles in popular Ramadan soaps and as a former host of the Arab language version of singing talent format The Voice.

“Bikini Blue” director Jarek Marszewski will direct the 1920s-set euthanasia drama “Iron Ribbon,” for which Los Angeles-based Egyptian actor Mohamed Karim is attached and Tom Hughes (“The English”) is in advanced talks.

The English-language romantic thriller, which is being produced by London-based Daniella Gonella and Jay Michaelson’s Dg Productions, is based on the true story of rising Polish stage star Stanislawa Uminska, who in 1924 killed her cancer-stricken fiancé in Paris upon his request as an act of euthanasia. She then stood trial, but was set free by the French court.

Karim is known across the Middle East as a former host of talent show “The Voice of Arabia” and for roles in popular Ramadan soaps. He is concurrently pursuing a Hollywood career that has led to roles alongside Nicolas Cage in 2019 action movie “A Score to Settle” and with Bruce Willis in “A Day to Die.”

Exclusive: Vertical Entertainment has secured the U.S. distribution rights to A Day to Die, an action-thriller starring Frank Grillo, Bruce Willis, Leon, and Kevin Dillon. Wes Miller directed the indie from a script he co-wrote with Scott Mallace and Rab Berry. The pic is expected to be released in 2022.

In the film, a disgraced parole officer (Dillon) is indebted to a local gang leader and forced to pull off a series of dangerous drug heists within twelve hours in order to pay the $2 million dollars he owes, rescue his kidnapped pregnant wife, and settle a score with the city’s corrupt police chief (Willis), who is working with the gang leader and double-crossed him years ago.

Gianni Capaldi, Brooke Butler, Vernon Davis, Mohamed Karim, Alexander Kane, and Curtis Nichouls round out the cast. Nichouls also produced the film alongside Andrew van den Houten and DJ Dodd. Capstone Group is handling global sales.

Rlje Films (Nasdaq: Rlje) will release A Score To Settle on September 24, 2019 on DVD and on Blu-ray. It seemed like a decent revenge story, but then got a little cheesy when Cage confronted the teenage hooligans. But Cage is super into it, so maybe we should be too. Nicolas Cage stars in this in another crazy indie role to go with all of his other crazy indie flicks recently. Cage plays an ex-enforcer for a local crime syndicate who has vowed to enact retribution on his mob bosses after 22 years of wrongful imprisonment. The only thing diverting his violent plans is a new found relationship to his beloved son. The full cast includes Benjamin Bratt, Noah Le Gros, Mohamed Karim, Karolina Wydra, & Ian Tracey. I'm not even sure just how much action this will have, but it definitely does look like it has the perfect amount of rage for Cage to rock.

For the past couple of years Egyptian star Mohamed Karim, who is known across the Middle East as a former host of talent show “The Voice of Arabia” and for roles in popular Ramadan soaps and local pics, has been pursuing a Hollywood career. He recently landed a plum role alongside Nicolas Cage in Highland Film Group’s indie action thriller “A Score to Settle,” directed by Shawn Ku, whose debut “Beautiful Boy” (not to be mistaken with the current Felix Van Groeningen pic by the same title) made a splash. Karim started dreaming about Hollywood while attending his final high-school year in L.A.
