Some comedy shows take a while to get into their rhythm, but others manage to hook their audiences from the very first episode. It can take writers and actors some time to find the comedic flavor of a new show. Comedy relies so much on chemistry and timing that a perfect comedic pilot is rare. These things can take a long time to build up. However, some hilarious shows capture lightning in a bottle from their first outing.

There are many great comedy shows which started off a little slowly. Seinfeld, for example, has an odd first season that doesn't quite nail the comedic rhythms that the show is known for, and The Office takes some time to distinguish itself from its British counterpart. Selena Gomez hosted her second annual Rare Impact Fund Benefit in L.A. on Thursday, with a focus on youth mental health as the star opened up about her own personal experiences.

The event, with the theme of “A Night of Radiance and Reflection,” supported the Rare Impact Fund’s mission to mobilize $100 million for organizations increasing access to youth mental health services and education around the world. One percent of all Gomez’s Rare Beauty brand sales are also donated to the Rare Impact Fund.

Billy Crudup served as the evening’s emcee, and Gomez took the stage inside the benefit to talk about the cause, acknowledging, “My ultimate dream has always been to help people.”

On her own mental health journey, the star said, “When I received my diagnosis for bipolar it changed everything for me. Everything I needed was about the knowledge that allowed me to get the right support.

Abby (Sage) wasn’t expecting to add Jake (Navarro) to her dating itinerary, but after a rough breakup leads to her building a list of celebrity “free passes” and traveling to Los Angeles to court the rich and famous, his ambition and charm catches her off guard and flips her expectations of love on their head.

The romcom charts Abby’s personal reinvention when her fiancé cheats on her and sleeps with a celebrity on his “free pass” list. She and her best friend Chloe (Chrissie Fit) then come up with Abby’s own celebrity list of men to sleep with. But while tracking down a leading Hollywood man type, a waiter named Jake has her rethinking exactly what she’s looking for in a partner.

Every romantic comedy has its left-turn hook, right? For the new upbeat rom-com “The List,” the fishhook is the enticing but also possibly dreadful celebrity “free pass,” wherein a couple agrees that if a certain actor is on their “free pass” list, they would be able to have sex with them, no strings attached should that fantasy ever happen. Exclusive: Rachael Leigh Cook, star of ‘90s movies including She’s All That, has signed a wide-ranging deal with Fox’s Marvista Entertainment.

The pact will see Cook develop, produce and act in a number of projects including a holiday film and There She Goes (w/t), a feature loosely based on her real-life experiences.

It comes as Cook is starring in Netflix’s A Tourist’s Guide to Love, which launches this month.

The deal is one of the highest profile partnerships unveiled by Marvista Entertainment since it was acquired by Fox Entertainment in December 2021.

Leigh Cook will develop and produce several projects across genres over the next few years via her production company Ben’s Sister Productions. She will work in front of and behind the camera.

The Orville season 4 gets an optimistic update from star Chad L. Coleman. When it concluded in August 2022, The Orville: New Horizons left the door open for more stories. However, as of January, Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment president Craig Erwich gave a murky assessment of the show's future. Erwich praised series creator and star Seth Macfarlane for his work on the sci-fi comedy and acknowledged the fanbase, but he cautioned there was nothing new to share about whether the series would be renewed for more episodes.

Coleman, who plays Klyden on The Orville, recently spoke to CinemaBlend and gave a cautiously hopeful update on the possibility of season 4. The actor said that there's a belief that it will happen, but that "things are still up in the air." NASA have paid tribute to The Orville, which honors the show's cultural legacy and gives some much-needed hope for season 4. Sadly, there have been no further concrete updates about whether The Orville will return to either Hulu or Disney+ at some point in the future. However, the fact that Seth MacFarlane's sci-fi comedy-drama has made an impact on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration is a good indicator of the show's popularity.

It's hoped, therefore, that the nod by NASA, and the performance of The Orville will be enough to convince executives to recommission the show. There are still plenty of stories to tell for The Orville's Captain Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane) and his crew, so many are currently crossing their fingers that season 4 will happen. In the meantime, the inclusion of characters from The Orville in a recent NASA report does give hope for the show's future.
