Australian director Chris Sun is known for his violent, frequently quite viciously so, genre films such as Charlie’s Farm and Boar. The Possessed however marks his first attempt at a supernatural film, and it’s based on the allegedly true exploits of Mark Gardener who claims to be able to perform exorcisms, he calls them “clearings”, and free people from demonic possession. Of course, I don’t believe Gardener’s claims, but hopefully, it’s at least an entertaining bit of bullshit.
The Possessed certainly opens on a promising note, with a man dragging a woman from a bathtub full of blood. This is Jacob and the woman is his wife Carissa and she’s just tried to kill herself again while possessed. Jacob casts the demon out, but it appears and whispers something...

Jon Coghill knows the potential an idea can have.
As the drummer of rock band Powderfinger, he has seen first-hand how humble beginnings can form the foundation of successful careers within the arts.
“Powderfinger wasn’t all of a sudden a big band playing to 50,000 people,” he told If.
“It started in the early ’90s with five guys in a little rehearsal room with an idea and lots of ambition.”
Such is the inspiration for the Sunshine Coast Showdown, an initiative created to help emerging talent in the region take the next steps towards breaking into the film and television industry.
Coghill is one of a handful of founders for the initiative, which is being delivered in conjunction with the Sunshine Coast Screen Collective.
The contest offers production funding and mentoring across six categories, including short film (drama/comedy), short film (horror/sci-fi/action), unscripted pitch (light entertainment), unscripted pitch (ob/doc), music video,...

The thing about myths and legends, they are usually made up of partial truths, and in this case, complete and terrifying truths. Tearing a path of destruction through fencing and livestock, locals haven’t a clue of the chilling death that lurks in the striking Australian outback. And, they have announced that Boar will have its international premiere at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. Better brush up on...

What the we do not have in the world of fantastic cinema is enough killer pig movies. It has been a few years since we had a rash of them between '08 and '10. It has been even longer since the nation of Australia has had a killer pig creature feature. I believe you would have to go back to 1984s Razorback for that. That is about to change as Chris Sun's fourth film Boar has been picked up by Universal Australia for local distribution. Considering the international talent attached to the production one cannot help but wonder if there are any festival circuit plans for the creature feature from Down Under. Director Chris Sun (Charlie's Farm) has released the first full length trailer for Boar. This creature feature was shot in the Australian outback. And, the film's central villain is an 8', tusked killing machine. The films stars Nathan Jones (Troy), John Jarratt and Christie-Lee Britten. The first trailer shows dark nights and bloody victims. The full video is below. The film begins and ends with a wild boar. It has grown to a monstrous size. It also wants to protect its territory, from the locals. Now, it is going on a terrifying rampage, while impaling anyone and anything that gets in its way. The trailer begins with old stories of a giant boar. Then, real life signs of it begin to turn up, at a camp site. The local townsfolk look completely unprepared for what is in store for them. Indie horror film fans are encouraged to take a peek past the break.

The long-standing etiquette among filmmakers here and internationally is that they don.t usually bad mouth each other.s work.
Writer-director Chris Sun does not subscribe to that convention, as evidenced by his criticism of Greg Mclean.s Wolf Creek 2.
Sun aired his views as he prepares to shoot horror movie Charlie.s Farm, which stars Us actress Tara Reid (Sharknado, the American Pie movies) and Nathan Jones (Mad Max: Fury Road, Conan the Barbarian) on the Gold Coast.
Jones plays Charlie Wilson, a serial killer who preys on four horror-seeking youths who head to the Outback to explore the location where a violent family perished at the hands of an angry mob.
This is Sun.s third film following Daddy.s Girl and Come and Get Me. In a media release promoting Charlie.s Farm he praised the first Wolf Creek as awesome and Mclean as a .bloody Aussie legend.

Shane Krause has a refreshingly candid view of the commercial prospects of The Contents, a self-funded supernatural thriller which marks his directing debut.
.If the film turns out to be any good we will get interest. from distributors and sales agents, says Krause, who co-wrote and produced the film with his regular collaborator Shayne Armstrong.
.If it doesn.t it will die the death it deserves to. The amount of money at risk is pitifully small. If it doesn.t work no one gets hurt..
The cast and a small crew worked irregularly on the film for the past six months shooting on locations in Brisbane. It.s 80% completed; still to come are the visual effects elements created by Steve Boyle whose credits include The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Bait 3D, Daybreakers and who.s just worked on Chris Sun.s low budget horror film Charlie.s Farm.

Few horror movie killers can rank among the top tier slaughter stars we've all come to love, but damn it, they try. Well, guess what, kids? Another is on his way, and one thing is certain: He has the girth to muscle in!
From the Charlie's Farm Facebook page:
Since the 1970's the world has been seen the rise of some of the most iconic killers, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger and Thomas Hewitt (Leatherface). Australia has had its fair share of Amazing horror films from Patrick, Lake Mungo, Snow Town, Razorback, The Loved Ones, and of course the legend himself "Greg McLean" with Wolf Creek and now Wolf Creek 2 to name only a few.
The problem is Australia has never had a killer with the status of the American killers; Voorhees has had over 160 kills in his career and is hands down one of the most feared killers on the planet.

The 13th annual Melbourne Underground Film Festival, held back on Aug. 24 to Sept. 1, shined an especially bright spotlight on New Irish Low Budget Cinema, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the fest gave its top awards to a film from the land of Éire.
Terry McMahon’s crime thriller Charlie Casanova won for Best Film and Best Director, and star Emmet Scanlon tied for Best Actor with Shiver‘s John Jarrat.
Despite all the love given to Ireland, this year’s Muff didn’t ignore its home countrymen, either. Local filmmaker Chris Sun’s latest, Daddy’s Little Girl, also took home multiple awards, including Best SFX, Best Actress for Allira Jacques and tied for the Special Jury Prize with Donna McRae’s Johnny Ghost.
Also, as usual, Muff gave out a wide variety of awards to multiple films. Some of the other winners include Daryl Stoneage...

To celebrate their 13th anniversary this year, the Melbourne Underground Film Festival is going green!
No, they’re not out to save the kookaburra or anything. Instead, they’re hosting a special tribute to the New Irish Low Budget Cinema, featuring two films by acclaimed filmmaker Ivan Kavanagh, plus work by Colin Downey, Gary Kenneally and Gerard Lough.
Muff will host a repeat screening of Kavanagh’s celebrated thriller Tin Can Man — it previously screened at Muff in 2008 — as well as his latest film, The Fading Light. The three other Irish films screening all fall into the horror/thriller genres, from Downey’s The Looking Glass to Kenneally’s Stephen King adaptation The Boogeyman and Lough’s trilogy-ending The Shaken 3. And, in addition, the entire fest kicks off with the opening night Irish thriller Charlie Casanova by Terry McMahon.
