Hesam Dehghani was born in Tehran, as the first child of a physics teacher father and a history teacher mother. As a young boy, he became intrigued with playing the violin.
He attended Iran University of Science and Technology in 1995 and studied computer engineering. He made his first student short film, The Incredible Story of the Computer Campus (2000) for the university's Film Center. As a student, he directed 4 other short films (Conjure, An Skeleton in Black, Last Night on Earth and Hypnotism), which were selected and screened in a number of film festivals including Tehran Short Film Festival.
He learned the basics of screenplay writing and filmmaking from Ebrahim Hatamikia. he also attended various training courses, including Techniques of Non-Linear Editing in Harris Company's head office in Bracknell, United Kingdom in 2003.
Hesam worked in various short and documentary film projects as a writer, director and producer and Since 2011, he started to participating in international filmmaking projects.
Hesam is a co-founder and manager at Persian Magic Art Group and he is also a Lead Producer in CollabFeature, the international team of independent filmmakers, whose second feature film Train Station (2015) won dozens of awards from film festivals around the world.
Hesam's short thriller film Trauma (2020) was another success in international film festivals and led him to make his first feature movie The Darkest Side (2021) which won the Best Feature Film Award in ACDC International Film Festival (Belgium).
During 2021 to 2022 Hesam worked with Windfall Films to make a feature length documentary film for Discovery+ and Science Channel. Lost Empire of Persia (2022) was a huge international success and won the Bronze Medal in New York TV and Movie Festival (2022).
