Marene van Holk was born in the Netherlands but grew up in the United Kingdom. She trained as an actress at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and LAMDA in London. After graduating she started a career in Theatre, TV and film, notable credits including a lead in BBC Silent Witness, Tommy Cooper Not Like this, Like that, Divorce (Talpa Media). She worked a producer and actor on several short films including the Eye of the Vulture. She has been working in Iran in Farsi as an actress, director and producer on and off since 2014, starring as a lead in The 9th Symphony. She co-wrote and starred in the short film Atisaz. In 2021 she starred as a lead in the new series Gheble Alam. The Absent Director which she starred in and executive produced for her Tehran based production company Virgule held its world premiere in 2021 at Busan Int Film Festival. In 2024 she wrote and directed her first short film 40 KM. Alongside TV and film, she works as a director, actor, creative producer and dramaturg in theatre internationally.
