- Named after photographer Ansel Adams.
- Did not attend film school. He is a fully self taught filmmaker.
- Decided he wanted to be a film director at the age of 6. He cites the films House of Dark Shadows (1970) and Phantom of the Opera (1943) as the films that helped make his decision.
- Cites Third Man on the Mountain (1959) and Black Narcissus (1947) as his all time favorite films.
- Wrote the afterword for the film studies book "Nights of Dan Curtis: The Television Epics of the Dark Shadows Auteur, Horror Western and War" by Dr. Jeff Thompson.
- Is also a respected film historian, and writes a column "Asylum for the Psychotronic" for We Belong Dead magazine, out of the UK. He has also contributed articles for Universal Monster Universe.
