Earlier this year, we learned that, forty-nine years after playing a major role in the Steven Spielberg classic Jaws (and fourteen years after making an appearance in Alexandre Aja’s Piranha 3D), Richard Dreyfuss had been cast in another film that promises to be packed with aquatic thrills, Vigilante Diaries director Christian Sesma’s Into the Deep. The film is set to receive a digital, On Demand, and limited theatrical release on January 24th – and with that date just one month away, a trailer has arrived online! You can check it out in the embed above.

Alan Chikin Chow‘s videos are getting a glow-up. The mega-popular YouTube creator, whose mix of short-form and long-form uploads have brought more than 67 million subscribers to his personal channel, is opening up shop at a 10,000-square-foot production facility located in Los Angeles.
According to Taylor Lorenz of User Mag, Chow’s production hub includes 10 sets, each equipped with top-of-the-line cameras and lighting equipment. The creator and his 20-person team plan to use their new space to shoot all of Chow’s content, which he releases across channels on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.
Chow was a little-known creator before the 2021 launch of YouTube Shorts, but his prowess with that vertical format vaulted him to the top of the YouTube charts. He often gets more than 500 million YouTube views per week and has made occasional trips to the #1 spot in our U.S. Top 50 rankings. Nearly four years after the launch of Shorts,...

Spotify has become much more than an audio streaming service, and it is rolling out new revenue streams to reflect that shift. In front of a room full of creators at its Now Playing event in Los Angeles, the 18-year-old platform announced a slew of fresh features, including some new content formats and a revamped Spotify Partner Program that will reward popular videos.
With digital luminaries like Dhar Mann, Anna Sitar, Bailey Sarian, and Rhett & Link in attendance, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek (pictured above) and his subordinates detailed the growth of video content on their platform — and their plans to keep the good times rolling. Ek’s pitch focused on formats like podcasting and video on demand, in which Spotify has invested billions of dollars.
There are plenty of stats that demonstrate the return Spotify has gotten on that investment. The number of video podcasts on Spotify has tripled year-over-year...

One of the main reasons why I stay away from films and shows in the drama genre is because most of them hit a little too close to home, but that’s also the main reason why I end up judging them too harshly. Death, family politics, financial fluctuations, dysfunctional relationships, generational trauma, legal trouble, discrimination, lies, betrayal, hopelessness, hopefulness, love, hatred—you name it, and I have seen it unravel either within the confines of my family tree or those around me. So, seeing even a shadow of these facets of life in a movie (or a show), without added flavors like horror, action, comedy, or sci-fi, puts me on the edge. When I was younger and more naive, I used to wade into “dramatic” waters without a single thought, but now it’s the last thing I’d want to voluntarily inflict upon my fragile psyche. With all that in mind,...

YouTube has become Netflix‘s biggest rival in the world of streaming. The latter company’s Co-CEO thinks that his platform’s superlative stories are still a difference maker, but is his view outdated?
Ted Sarandos was asked about YouTube during Netflix’s Q3 2024 earnings call. Those two platforms account for half of all streaming traffic, but Sarandos still believes his SVOD service has a competitive edge over YouTube.
“Netflix is the best place for premium stories because we’re the home to the best storytellers,” Sarandos said. “When I look at YouTube specifically, I’d say look, we compete directly with YouTube for people’s time, for the time they spend on that TV screen. But we have very different strengths.”
That answer sounds similar to the one Sarandos’ fellow Co-CEO, Greg Peters, gave in response to a question about YouTube during the Q2 2024 Netflix earnings call. At the time,...

Dhar Mann already delivers the most popular ethical lessons on YouTube. Now, he’s adding a frightful twist to his moralizing. The creator’s Dhar Mann Studios YouTube channel will host Secrets of the Shadows, a Halloween-themed series that will feature some of the biggest creators on YouTube.
Secrets of the Shadows is an anthology series that will feature occult favorites like vampires, werewolves, witches, zombies, and ghosts. Those scary figures will be vehicles for the heartwarming and inspirational messages that feature in typical Dhar Mann videos. Based on the more recent of the show’s two trailers, viewers can expect plenty of haunted houses and body horror — as well as lessons about personal responsibility, kindness, empathy, and the power of friendship.
Cast members will include Alan Chikin Chow, Chelsea Sik, Anwar, Kelsi Davies, Rebecca Zamolo, Matt Slays, Royalty Fam, Francesca Capaldi, Ben Azelart, Anazala Fam, Jordan Matter and Salish Matter.

Dhar Mann has launched a new series, and he’s getting ready for a move to the big screen. The entrepreneurial creator, whose moralistic videos have received 11 billion life views on YouTube, is developing new IP based around popular characters Jay and Mikey.
Jay (portrayed by Shaun Dixon) and Mikey (Kaido Lee Roberts) are a pair of middle school troublemakers who occasionally appear together in Dhar Mann videos. In their typical videos, they attempt to concoct mischievous schemes before ultimately receiving the justice they (karmically) deserve.
Despite their knack for bad behavior, Jay and Mikey have become two of the most popular characters in the Dhar Mann universe. When they had a long absence from the channel, fans signed a petition in hopes of bringing them back.
As it turned out, Jay and Mikey’s status as a Dhar Mann duo was far from over. A recent short-form upload told viewers “what happened to Mikey.

In our U.S. Top 50, it was quite the week for short-form channels. Nine of the top ten finishers in our all-American ranking operate primarily on YouTube Shorts.
If you follow these charts regularly, then you won’t be surprised to hear that the only long-form channel in the top ten ended up in first place.

As a predominantly long-form channel, Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes has become an outlier in our U.S. Top 50. But even as other long-form channels struggle to keep up with the deluge of short-form viewership, Cocomelon is holding strong at the front of our American ranking.

“Not a single actor that works at Dhar Mann Studios can afford rent.” That provocative statement, spoken by actor Colin A. Borden in a TikTok video, fanned a firestorm of complaints against a moralistic online video star. Borden is one of the actors behind the #ProtestDharMann movement, which has questioned the business practices of the titular figure — and drawn a thorough response from Mann himself.
Borden, who has appeared on shows like Better Call Saul, is one of the actors who has achieved some level of internet fame by appearing in Mann’s videos. With the help of his regulars, Mann has created an empire of moral videos that use simple language to impart basic ethical lessons. That formula has made Mann’s channel one of the most-watched hubs on YouTube netting between 250 and 320 million views a month.

True to form, Dhar Mann is planning a special event for the people who made it onto the “nice” list this year. The filmmaker known for his virtuous videos will host an official premiere for his Unforgettable Christmas holiday special. This will be the first time the rising star has put on an in-person get-together for his colleagues, collaborators, and fans.
Mann’s lessons about right and wrong have made him a familiar name among kids who watch YouTube. After rocketing up our U.S. Top 50 charts over the past two years, the California native has positioned himself as a forward-thinking entrepreneur who has been able to turn universal morals into a burgeoning brand.
While Dhar Mann videos have exploded across the web, the channel’s namesake has kept a relatively low profile (notwithstanding an August 2021 profile in the New York Times). On December 18, the popular creator will head to...

That’s a wrap on the 12th annual Streamy Awards, which presented nearly 50 awards and honors to 2022’s top creators.
After going virtual in 2020 and 2021, the Streamys (produced by Tubefilter and dick clark productions) returned to Irl this year, and to its home turf: the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles.
2022’s awards were party rocked by master of ceremonies Airrack, who just so happened to walk away with two nods of his own: top First Person creator as well as a Creator Honor, which we’ll talk more about below. The show was also streamed exclusively from Airrack’s YouTube channel—a first for the Streamys, which normally broadcasts from its own channel.

The nominees for the 2022 Streamy Awards are here.
The annual award show will be held in person on December 4 after two straight years of socially-distanced celebration. Despite the change of scenery, the most-nominated creator is the same as last year. Jimmy ‘MrBeast‘ Donaldson is up for seven awards, while his friend and frequent collaborator Mark Rober will have a shot to earn six trophies.
Other creators with multiple nominations include ascendant Twitch star Kai Cenat, Blogilates host Cassey Ho, and the man who will host the 2022 Streamys: Eric ‘Airrack‘ Decker. The filmmaker, entrepreneur, and ping pong tournament director will try to become the first person to host the Streamys and win the coveted Creator of the Year trophy in the same year.
If Donaldson denies Decker that top prize, he’ll establish a milestone of his own by becoming the first person to win Creator of the Year three consecutive times.
