Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket has adapted the 30-year-old card game to mobile devices and the modern age, but fans are discovering that the game has sprinkled some nostalgic Easter eggs within the virtual cards. The free mobile game allows fans to open booster packs, collect and display their favorite cards, and battle other players, just like they would with the physical cards. The cards featured in the virtual game have been overhauled for more streamlined digital play, and many of the game's illustrations are entirely new to the game.
Earlier this week, Redditor asch_win discovered that a Spearow card exclusive to Tcg Pocket hid some clues to its location in the card's background. The card, it appears, was set on Route 16, just outside Celadon City in the original Pokémon Red, based on background details included in the drawing.

Despite the fond reception for Pokémon Horizons: The Series, the latest anime in the franchise featuring two new protagonists, some fans miss the original main character, Ash Ketchum. Ash and his buddy Pikachu have been the central figures of the Pokémon anime since its debut in 1997 and remained so until the end of Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series in 2023, when Ash finally became Champion.
Although the new series is available on Netflix, many seasons of the long-running Pokémon anime are scattered among several streaming services like Prime Video, Hulu, and Tubi. However, there is a way to watch the earliest adventures of Ash, Pikachu, Brock, and Misty in only one place for free.

As Pokmon Horizons has continued to march onward, an interesting theme has emerged in the series, and it's one that never would've worked in Ash's era. That theme is one of family, a subject which never really received all that much attention in the previous series.
In the original anime starring Ash Ketchum, the subject of family almost never comes up; Ash's dad is still unknown even after 1200+ episodes, and his mother only rarely played a role in storylines, and even then was mostly there to cheer on Ash. Ash would place phone calls to Professor Oak far more often than to his own mother, and he had no other family to speak of. It's somewhat understandable, as the dream of endless adventure that the show represents doesn't mix too well with the concept of family.
However, Pokmon Horizons has found a way to incorporate family without sacrificing adventure.

Ash and Pikachu's relationship is at the core of the Pokmon anime, and it might seem as if the pair were brought together entirely by chance. However, one Pokmon movie accidentally provided another reason as to why Pikachu ended up with Ash, and it actually involves time travel.
The fourth Pokmon movie, Pokmon 4Ever, also known as Celebi: Voice of the Forest, revolves around the time-traveling Mythical Pokmon Celebi, who in the course of the film brings forward in time a young boy by the name of Sam. Sam meets Ash and his friends, and together they embark on a quest to protect Celebi from a Team Rocket agent who wields powerful and dangerous Pok Balls that can control almost any Pokmon. Of course, Ash and friends do manage to save Celebi from Team Rocket, and Celebi then takes Sam back to his own time.
The real surprise comes...

Diablo 4 is cooking up plenty of upgrades for the Vessel of Hatred expansion, and one of the biggest improvements is sending players all the way back to Diablo 2. Back when the Diablo franchise was still in its infancy and players were learning the ins and outs of building the most powerful characters possible, experimentation was the key to unlocking some wickedly powerful items. Runewords, a mechanic that allowed users to craft specific rune effects for items, was a beloved mechanic so it's great to see it make a triumphant return.
During an official blog post, Blizzard confirmed that one of the major changes coming to Diablo 4 alongside Vessel of Hatred is the introduction of Runewords. The mechanic will largely function as it did in Diablo 2, allowing players to slot a Rune of Ritual and a Rune of Invocation into an item with two open slots, activating the effects. The Rune of Ritual specifies a condition,...

Pokémon has remained one of the most popular franchises of all time. Whether it’s the countless games, diverse comics, or adored anime series, Pokémon continues to be a significant cultural icon. The protagonists, Ash and Pikachu, are very much associated with the series, and even those not acquainted with Pokémon, in general, are familiar with Pikachu.
Ash, Pikachu and Professor Oak
Ash received Pikachu from Professor Oak. Professor Oak is one of the first characters fans see in the amazing wide world of Pokémon, introducing himself with a quirky charm that holds him firmly in our hearts. In spite of his numerous appearances in the Pokémon series, only little is known about Professor Oak.
However, he might be more important in the series than fans might think. According to a theory, Professor Oak did not incidentally give Pikachu to Ash but had a reason behind it. He wanted Ash...

Team Rocket's disguise as Ash and his friends in the Pokémon Xy series successfully ruins Ash's reputation and isolates him from law enforcement. Their impersonation scheme, although flawed, causes more trouble for Ash than any attempt to steal Pikachu. This plan showcases the effectiveness of Team Rocket's disguises and highlights their potential for future success.
Team Rocket rarely sees success in the Pokémon anime, but one of their most effective tricks ever involved putting their disguise abilities to use to make Ash a wanted person throughout Kalos. By disguising themselves as Ash and his friends, Team Rocket were able to destroy Ash's reputation before he even got into town.
In the episode "Heroes - Friend and Faux Alike!" from the Pokémon Xy series, Team Rocket hatches a new plan, with James disguising himself as Ash, his Inkay as Pikachu, Jessie as Serena, and Meowth as Bonnie. Now impersonating the heroes,...

When Pokémon introduced its fifth generation of games to the world, it brought with it the game series' first female Pokémon Professor, Professor Juniper. Though Juniper was a relatively small addition to Pokémon Black & White, many fans of the game were happy to have such an integral role finally played by a woman. The anime, however, had already achieved that particular goal way back in its second season with the introduction of Professor Ivy of the Orange Islands.
The Orange Islands were a region created specifically for the Pokémon anime, intended to buy a little time for the series' creators while the Gold and Silver games were finished. Because the anime was creating this area from scratch, the creators had more freedom than they usually did in how to depict things, which led to a number of firsts: the first time one of Ash's companions was replaced, for example,...

Since the franchise began, Pokémon fans have wondered just exactly how being a Pokémon Trainer works. Can anybody be a trainer? How old does one need to be? And why doesn't Ash Ketchum ever have to go to school?
All these questions and more are actually explained in one of the earliest Pokémon manga to be released, The Electric Tale of Pikachu. A loose adaptation of the anime series, The Electric Tale of Pikachu starts off quite differently, and these differences allow it the opportunity to explain certain elements of the franchise, like trainer licensing, for the first time. For starters, Ash isn't given Pikachu by Professor Oak; he finds it nibbling on the wires in his wall. This lack of an official beginning to Ash's journey leads him to deal with a variety of problems that the original anime's Ash never had to.

Fans of Pokémon who have played through the Kanto region may find some similarities between the games and a moment featuring Ash Ketchum within the anime. While the gaming moment in question was actually incorporated into the first season, it wasn't quite the same. The moment, which occurs in the second season, hits the mark much closer.
In the Pokémon: Master Quest series, the episode "Hocus Pokémon" sees Ash turned into a Pikachu as a result of magic. He doesn't become His Pikachu or temporarily embody another Pokémon. He physically becomes one himself. Strangely enough, he returns back to his typical human self in the very next episode with no explanation - though the games originally would have provided a good one.
