Love Next Door centers around two childhood friends who have reconnected as adults. Seok-ryu, played by Jung So-min, recently returned to Korea after living and working in the US. Now she’s sorting through some major life changes as she reconnects with people from her past. Seung-hyo, brought to life by Jung Hae-in, is an ambitious architect still living in their hometown. Though his career is taking off, some personal matters seem unresolved. These two have known each other since they were kids, when their mothers would force them together. While they still relentlessly bicker like siblings, their bond runs deep below the surface.
Supporting both main characters are friends and family. Kim Ji-eun stars as Mo-eum, Seok-ryu, and Seung-hyo’s childhood friend, who understands them well. Now a paramedic, she offers care and advice. Meanwhile, their mothers continue competing over their children’s success, giving the show fun comic relief.

As if my praise for the first episode wasn’t enough, I feel the urge to make a compelling case for Love Next Door. We get exactly one scene in this episode that would imply some sort of romantic feeling between the main couple, but I’m already deviously rooting for them. Maybe it’s that I’m biased towards the actors, but I truly felt a lot of joy watching them, especially Jung So-Min, who is delightful in this role, both in the happy and melancholic moments. While we still haven’t seen enough of Jung Hae-In yet, I’ve got to say the look was made for him, and it’s wonderful to see his hair up. Love Next Door Episode 1 ended with Seung-Hyo handing Seok-Ryu over to her mother for a proper beating. Let’s jump into episode 2 to find out if she’s still doing okay...

The highly anticipated new K-drama Love Next Door has finally begun with Jung Hae-In and Jung So-Min in the leading roles. As soon as this show was announced, it was obvious it would get fantastic viewership, and seeing how the first episode has played out, I’ve got to admit that I think it’s going to be a favorite of 2024 for many. I know I might be speaking too soon, but with the two actors in the leading roles having such incredible popularity globally and in South Korea, I’m pretty sure I’m right. We’ve got many K-dramas this year that remind us of the rom-coms from what I like to call the golden era of K-dramas, 2013-2016. Love Next Door looks like it’ll join that list too. But with all this said, I won’t take any more of your time and jump straight into the first episode.

Korean TV, especially K-dramas, have long been of interest to western markets, but it’s no longer just the Korean diaspora or romance drama fans underserved by western markets checking out K-dramas, international watchers of Korean dramas have become much more “mainstream” in the last few years, especially with Netflix’s increased focus and investment in the region.

Project Wolf Hunting begins with a mass return of Korean criminals captured in the Philippines. As they’re being led through Seoul airport somebody with a grudge against one of them detonates a suicide bomb killing himself, his target, and everyone else in the vicinity. To avoid a repeat of this, the next group is to be transported on the Frontier Titan, a specially fitted out cargo ship and delivered to a pier in Busan harbour to which the public doesn’t have access. I guess simply flying them into a military base never crossed anyone’s mind.

Alchemy of Souls was one of 2022’s biggest fantasy K-dramas. It premiered a second season in December and went well into 2023. The first season of Alchemy of Souls developed a heartwarming romance between Jang Uk (Lee Jae-wook) and his master, Mu-deok (Jung So-min). But the romance changed in Alchemy of Souls Season 2 as actor Go Youn-jung reprised her role as Nak-su. Months after their sizzling romance, Lee Jae-wook reveals he would say “yes” to a romance K-drama with Go Youn-jung again.

Review: Writer/director Kim Hong-seon’s movie Project Wolf Hunting doesn’t have a great title – and the filmmakers were clearly aware of that, because when a character in the movie sees a folder with “Project Wolf Hunting” on it, their response is, “How tacky.” Apparently the literal translation of the South Korean production’s title in its home country would be Project Wolf Hunt or simply Wolf Hunt, both of which at least sound better than the English title the movie was given. That “ing” at the end does make a difference. But as cheesy as Project Wolf Hunting sounds, it’s a title we’re probably going to hear referenced quite often going forward,...
