Eclectic and energetic musician, director, actor Chiu Sin-hang is a busy bee. Other than being the lead vocalist of local band ToNick and acting, he managed in 2017 to co-direct with Pak-Wing Yan one of the most cherished films of the last few years, “Vampire Cleanup Department”, which injected new life into the beloved goeng-si genre from the great days of 1980s/‘90s Hong Kong Cinema. This time he is solo-directing another film with a very local flavour, a feeling of nostalgia and a touch of supernatural. Written by Ashley Cheung (“Vampire Cleanup Department” and the excellent “Distinction”) and Ryan Wai-Chun Ling, “One Second Champion” delves into boxing territory and it has just been released in Hong Kong (late on schedule due to the pandemic) where is already proving a local success as box office champion in the first week. Hopefully not just for one second!

“Ready O/R Knot” is Screening as Part of Asian Pop-up Cinema Season 12
First of all, I want to say that I really enjoyed “One Second Champion”. For me it had a nostalgic feeling of the Hong Kong movies from the 80’s and 90’s. Did you approach the project wanting to give that specific flavour to your film?

Full Strike
Written by Joe Chien, Chi-kin Kwok, Henri Wong, Pak-wing Yan & Ka Yee Yim
Directed by Chi-kin Kwok & Henri Wong
Hong Kong, 2015
Full Strike is a wacky sports comedy from directors Chi-kin Kwok and Henri Wong. In Full Strike, a group of society’s cast-offs come together to seek redemption through the sport of badminton. Bursting at the seams with obscenities and zany comedic performances, Full Strike is the perfect film for fans of filthy, over the top humor.
Disgraced badminton champion Ng Kau-sau (Josie Ho), was banned from the sport after her Hulk-like temper tantrums transformed her into a public menace; when the film begins, she has spent the past 10-years toiling away in obscurity. One stormy night, Kau-sau encounters a mysterious object falling out of the sky, which leads her to cross paths with three ex-cons (led by Ekin Cheng) looking to redeem themselves for their criminal pasts.
