- Tomoko Karina is an American/ Japanese Actress born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. Tomoko started her acting career in Japan starring hit TV shows such as "Rinjo" (TV Asahi), Movies "Tokyo Tribe", and theaters including the Japanese Premiere of "Balm In Gilead" by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, Lanford Wilson directed by Obie award-winning, Two-time Golden Globe and five-time Emmy Award nominee Robert Allan Ackerman, "Three Sisters" (Theater Project Tokyo), "Story of Domon Ken" (Kinokuni-ya Hall) and Playing a lead role for two productions at prestigious Tokyo Metropolitan Art Theater ( "Voice", "Pecan in The Field). Then Tomoko expanded her career globally. She made screen appearances in "Cobra Kai" (Netflix), "Haunting in Silver Falls: Returns" (Netflix), "Another Tango" (Hallmark Movie), and many others. Prior to her professional works, Tomoko studied acting with Jeff Goldblum and Robert Carnegie at Playhouse West and Anna Strasberg and other Stanislavski influenced teachers full-time for 2 years at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute.
The past several years, Tomoko embarked on her career as a writer/ director. She directed her own written play, "2 Lies and 3 Dreams and Hollywood", which opened in Tokyo. Then she directed 3 episodes of a variety music show, "Rock the City CA". Tomoko wrote and directed (composed and starred) the first short film, "Camellia- Kerria- Pink", the story of 3 young Japanese women swirled right in the middle of the WWII Pearl Harbor attack conspiracy. This film has been critically acclaimed for winning the best Foreign Mini Film at Brentwood and Pacific Palisades International Film Festival, being awarded by Women Voice Now Film Festival as a semifinalist, also officially selected by and In Short Film Festival. In August 2021, Tomoko wrote and directed a play "Japanese Love Story - Shizuka". The play was Hollywood Fringe Festival scholarship recipient title and nominated for Best Play, Best Director, Best Performer, Best Supporting Performer, Best Costume, and Best Live Streaming Play at Broadway World Regional - Los Angeles.
