“Saturday Night Live’s” cold open took direct aim at the internet obsession about Luigi Mangione, the alleged killer of the United HealthCare CEO Brian Thompson with a sketch that featured Sarah Sherman as true crime maven Nancy Grace.
“Y’all psychos find him a sex symbol,” Sherman as Grace told the audience in diving into the shocking story of the brazen Dec. 4 slaying in Manhattan of Thompson walked to an investor conference. With over-the-top tabloid delivery Grace observed that Mangione “has women and gay guys hot and bothered,” describing him as “Dave Franco with Eugene Levy’s eyebrows.”
Kenan Thompson appeared later in the sketch as a man on the street who happened to encounter the killer. Interviewing him at the McDonald’s where the alleged killer was caught, Grace asked Thompson’s character “can you believe people were attracted to this sexy slayer?”
To which Thompson replied, “Women love bad boys.

As Bob Dylan fans await Timothée Chalamet‘s portrayal of the folk music legend, Chloe Fineman has reprised her portrayal of Chalamet.
On this weekend’s Saturday Night Live, she played the Oscar nominee in Buzzfeed’s red carpet coverage of the A Complete Unknown premiere, which also featured appearances from Dylan (James Austin Johnson), Bruce Springsteen (Andrew Dismukes) and Bono (host Paul Mescal).
“My forever babygirl, Timmy, is it safe to say you had a brat summer?” asks Heidi Gardner as Buzzfeed reporter Lacey Shay.
Fineman gave her signature Chalamet as she responded, “Oh man, ahhh! This is crazy! It’s nuts, man, it’s nuts. Wow!”
As Dylan, Johnson responded to the same question with a confused “what?” before answering nearly incoherently. “That about sums up my sausage consumption,” he concludes.
“Bob, it’s not about bratwurst, man! Ahhh, I love this guy,” exclaimed Fineman.

With all the hype surrounding its 50th anniversary season, someone was due to stand out on Saturday Night Live this year. Marcello Hernandez seemed primed to take the spotlight. Maybe Chloe Fineman would finally be crowned queen. Sarah Sherman? Ego Nwodim? One of the new featured players? But an unexpected comedian has become the season’s breakout star: Dana Carvey.
Yeah, that Dana Carvey.
It was an unexpected giggle in the season premiere when Carvey dropped in unexpectedly as the show’s ninth (ninth!) Joe Biden impersonator. Predictably, Carvey nailed the guy in ways that more precise impressionists like James Austin Johnson couldn’t. “Guess what? And by the way…” became Biden shorthand in the way that Carvey’s “Nah ga da it!” defined George Bush. Maybe Carvey wasn’t throwing 100 mph anymore but he still had enough of a fastball to deliver quality innings during election season.

“Saturday Night Live” poked fun at one of the most anticipated films of the holiday season, the Timothée Chalamet-helmed Bob Dylan biopic, “A Complete Unknown,” out Christmas Day, with a sketch portraying the film’s red-carpet premiere.
Chloe Fineman, as Timothée Chalamet, admitted to having a Brat Summer (a reference to the CharliXCX-inspired trend). “Oh, man it was crazy. Nuts,” exclaimed Fineman as Chalamet.
The fictional Buzzfeed reporter, spotting Bob Dylan (James Austin Johnson), gushed, “Oh, my god. And icon alert! Here comes Mr. Bob Dylan himself.” The reporter then asked Johnson as Dylan if he, too, had had a Brat Summer.
“What?” said Dylan. “A brat summer,” repeated the Buzzfeed reporter, “did you have a brat summer?”
Dylan, with his trademark gravelly voice, misunderstood the question thought he was being asked about bratwurst. “Bob, I love this guy!” said Fineman as Chalamet. “I love you, too, but all...

Jason Sudeikis shared a similar sentiment about his “SNL” salary, saying, “I mean, you don’t make enough money to make big purchases, so I think New York rent was probably the biggest purchase I made after writing my first year on ‘SNL.'” He was hired as a writer in 2003 and later worked as...

No more Joe Biden? No problem for Dana Carvey, who debuted his weirdo Elon Musk impression in the first post-election episode of Saturday Night Live. Jumping up and down in his all-black Musk gear, Carvey did a victory lap. “Check it out, Dark Maga!” Carvey said in a heavy, inconsistent accent. “Yeah, but seriously, I run the country now.”
The real Elon Musk was not a fan. “Dana Carvey just sounds like Dana Carvey,” he complained on Twitter when someone asked his opinion of the impression. “SNL has been dying slowly for years, as they become increasingly out of touch with reality.” For the record, Musk hosted the comedy show himself in 2021, with his own ideas for how to add a little R-rated comedy to the 50-year-old institution.
Now someone else is coming forward to criticize Carvey’s Musk impression: Dana Carvey himself. “I can’t do Elon Musk very well,...

When Alec Baldwin appeared on Saturday Night Live last week, fans were laughing at a lot more than the show’s scripted jokes.
Some fans with questionable eyeliners noticed that Baldwin, 66, apparently forgot to zip up his fly in the closing moments of the episode.
This wardrobe oversight quickly resulted in a slew of mocking criticism from internet users. While some focused on Baldwin’s apparent “loser” status, many more made jabs about the actor’s age resulting in declining acuity and joked about his so-called ‘Senior moment.

“Saturday Night Live” has pulled out all the stops in recruiting hosts for their 50th season, but the show is at its best when the cast gets to shine. As a result, Charli Xcx’s turn commanding the Studio 8H stage proved to be one of the best stints yet this year. Rather than chew the scenery, Xcx blended into each sketch and let the main players flex their skills while earning laughs. Her musical performances gave her more than enough opportunity to claim the spotlight.
The night kicked off with a political cold open that satirized the Oval Office meeting between presidents Trump (James Austin Johnson) and Biden (Dana Carvey) last week, with a lot more punch than any of the sketches featured in last week’s post-election episode. Just a month and change after Bowen Yang impersonated her in a viral sketch on Saturday Night Live, English electropop star Charli Xcx pulled double duty has host and musical guest of Saturday’s episode in her latest appearance on the NBC sketch comedy show. The election results continue to take center-stage on “Saturday Night Live,” as this week’s cold open featured Dana Carvey as Joe Biden and James Austin Johnson as Donald Trump in a sketch that drew from the pair’s recent meeting at the White House. Sitting in front of a crackling fireplace near a bouquet of roses, the pair unpacked Trump’s confounding cabinet picks, including Matt Gaetz for attorney general and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to head the health and human services department.
“Hello everybody, thank you everybody for coming to this very important transitional meeting,” said Carvey as Biden. “I’m being serious right now! Even though we disagree, we’re going to have a very respectful conversation.”
“Yeah, get a load of me,” said Johnson as Trump. “Instead of being loud and crazy like usual, I’m doing quiet and serene, which in many ways is a lot scarier.

Saturday Night Live staged a private Oval Office meeting between James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump and Dana Carvey’s Joe Biden this weekend — a meeting that was ultimately disrupted by two of Trump’s “most epic” cabinet picks.
First up was U.S. Attorney General nominee Matt Gaetz, played by SNL cast member Sarah Sherman. After greeting Trump and Biden with a Glenn Quagmire-esque “Giggity,” Gaetz assured the president-elect that he would do a great job for him. “If anyone tries to break the law, I’ll tell them what I told my eyebrows: freeze!” the former Florida representative exclaimed.

Alec Baldwin returned to “SNL” on Saturday’s politics-focused cold open, but the former Trump impersonator took on a different figure entirely for this episode: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The cold open imagined the private meeting between outgoing president Joe Biden (played by Dana Carvey) and incoming president Trump (James Austin Johnson), and in a bit that introduced a couple of Trump’s cabinet appointments, Baldwin stepped in as Rfk Jr.
Baldwin’s appearance was met with an applause break, after which he touted his credentials as Trump’s pick for Secretary of Health and Human Services. “Americans need someone to teach them how to be healthy. Someone like me, a 70-year-old man with movie star looks and a worm in his brain,” he said.

The Saturday Night Live cold open featured Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson) meeting in the Oval Office with President Joe Biden (Dana Carvey) and getting visits from some of the president-elect’s new cabinet picks.

Following last week's superb episode of "Saturday Night Live" featuring comedian and former "SNL" writer John Mulaney, showrunner Lorne Michaels decided to stick with seasoned stand-up comedian talent by bringing Bill Burr back to host for a second time. Burr isn't exactly the most versatile performer when it comes to sketch comedy or acting in general, but he can do a few things pretty damn well, especially if it involves being belligerent and from Boston, two things that go hand-in-hand.
While Burr's first time hosting "SNL" in the fall of 2020 wasn't a home run, it had some solid sketches, including a memorable Sam Adams beer commercial parody. Unfortunately, it seems like the wind was really sucked out of the sails of the writers room this week, presumably because of the election results, and this episode felt pretty clunky, landing somewhere between aggressively average and just plain poor.

Well, at least we didn’t get Maya Rudolph singing Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”
It was a tough night at Studio 8H this past Saturday, where a Bill Burr-hosted episode kicked off with some standard political satire, albeit this time focused on appeasing newly elected Donald Trump — a figure they’d spent most of the fall skewering. “Saturday Night Live” is not a show that typically hides its liberal leanings, but in this new, likely fascist era, the cast wanted to make sure Trump knew he had their support and downright adulation. Cast members Bowen Yang, Ego Nwodim, Kenan Thompson, Heidi Gardner, Marcello Hernandez, Sarah Sherman, and Colin Jost all lined up to pledge their fealty, with James Austin Johnson even unveiling a new interpretation of Trump that sees him as a muscular, Rambo-type figure. Obviously, “SNL 50” was making light of the authoritarianism we are likely to face over the next few years,...

Saturday Night Live had some fun at hair metal’s expense last night (November 9th). A sketch called “Sex Rock CD” featured the episode’s host, comedian Bill Burr, longing for the days of “rockin’ tunes about living fast, dying young, and doing sex.”
In the skit, Burr plays a father working on his motorcycle in the garage when his teenage son (played by new SNL cast member Emil Wakim) walks in and is blown away by the guitar rock his dad is listening to, exclaiming, “Whoa, what’s this music? I’ve never heard anything like this before.”

“This is real music, from when I was growing up,” responds Burr’s character. “No auto-tune, no mumble rap, just musicians.” The son then asks, “What was it called?,” with the dad answering, “’80s sex rock!”
From there, the father introduces his son to the “best” of those bands,...

Saturday Night Live knew it had to address a new reality this weekend. After a series of shows this fall showcasing Maya Rudolph’s Kamala Harris, how would SNL pivot after the landslide re-election of Donald Trump? To the show’s credit, it didn’t wallow in maudlin self-pity as in 2016 when Kate McKinnon as Hilary Clinton wailed “Hallelujah.”
It also avoided another mistake of the past, sidestepping Alec Baldwin’s buffoonish impression that dominated the show’s cold opens for four years. Those shrill bits weren’t funny in real time, and they’ve aged even worse.
Instead, SNL opted for a new approach, opening the show with its most popular cast members pledging their fealty to Donald Trump. Considering that the man has “openly called for vengeance against his political enemies” and a partisan Supreme Court means there’s “nothing to protect the people who are brave enough to speak out against him,...

Bowen Yang, Heidi Gardner, Marcello Hernández, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson and Colin Jost appeared in the cold open on Saturday night (November 10).

“Donald Trump, who tried to forcibly overturn the results of the last election, was returned to office by an overwhelming majority,” Heidi said, with Kenan adding: “This is the same Donald Trump who openly called for vengeance against his political enemies.”

With Donald Trump, who has threatened revenge against his perceived enemies, set to begin his second term in a matter of months, Saturday Night Live‘s cast members had self-preservation in mind, insisting that they have always had his back.
“We have been with you all along,” Kenan Thompson said, with Marcello Hernandez adding that everyone on stage voted for him as well. Heidi Gardner elaborated that she did so “50 times in Pennsylvania.”
Some cast members, though, were thrown under the bus.
“Mr. Trump, your honor,” Weekend Update co-host Colin Jost said.

The cast of “Saturday Night Live” faked audiences out by praising Donald Trump in the series’ first episode after his election.
In the cold open, cast members somberly discussed Trump’s victory and warned that “now, thanks to the Supreme Court, there are no guardrails.”
“And that is why, we at ‘SNL’ would like to say to Donald Trump: We have been with you all along,” Kenan Thompson added.
“We have never wavered in our support of you, even when others doubted you!” Bowen Yang added sarcastically, before Sarah Sherman said, “Every single person on this stage believed in you.”
“Every single person on this stage voted for you!” added Marcello Hernández.
The cast continued its faux-praise of the next president, as Colin Jost threw his “Weekend Update” co-host Michael Che under the bus, calling him the “lame-stream media.” (Jost later appeared on screen wearing a Jan. 6-style viking helmet.

The first “Saturday Night Live” after the election opened on a somber note, with Bowen Yang, Ego Nwodim, Kenan Thompson and Heidi Gardner standing on the “SNL” stage in regular clothes addressing the election of Donald Trump for a second term as president. The group took turns speaking about how Trump tried to forcibly overturn the results of the last election and how he called for vengeance against his enemies.
“To many people, including many people watching this show right now, the results were shocking and even horrifying,” Nwodim said, later noting that now “thanks to the Supreme Court, there are no guard rails” for his power.
“Nothing to protect the people who are brave enough to speak out against him,” Yang added.
Thompson then said, “That is why we at ‘SNL’ would like to say to Donald Trump, we have been with you all along.”

Donald Trump scored a decisive win this week, and the cast of Saturday Night Live wants him to know… they had his back the whole time!
This Saturday’s post-election episode kicked off with SNL cast members Bowen Yang, Ego Nwodim, Kenan Thompson and Heidi Gardner somberly facing the camera and recounting Trump’s victory, adding that many Americans found it “shocking and even horrifying,” and now Trump has “no guardrails” keeping him from taking vengeance on his political enemies. So, as Thompson put it, they want to make one thing clear to the newly elected Trump: “We have been with you all along.

The cast of Saturday Night Live kicked off their post-election show trying to get on Donald Trump’s good side after he defeated Kamala Harris in the 2024 election earlier in the week.
The cold open got underway with castmembers Bowen Yang, Heidi Gardner, Marcello Hernández, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson and Colin Jost speaking directly to the camera in a serious manner.
