- Nico Casavecchia is an Emmy-nominated Argentine director based in Los Angeles. His work employs mixed media techniques ranging from animation to live action. Nico's career started in visual arts in his hometown of Buenos Aires.
Over the course of his fifteen-year career, Nico has directed music videos, narrative pieces, and commercials. Nico's films have been featured in Wired, BBC, Indiewire and The New York Times, as well as film festivals including Sundance, Venice, Tribeca, SXSW, Los Angeles Film Festival, New York Film Festival, Austin Film Festival, Bafici, Siggraph, Holland Film Festival, Ars Electronica, and more. His work has collected Gold and Bronze statues at Cannes, Clio, AICP, and London International Awards.
Nico short "Border Hopper" was selected for the US Competition of the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. This is Nico's second Sundance premiere as he wrote and co-directed "BattleScar," a virtual reality short starring Rosario Dawson, which premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. Adi Robertson from The Verge described "BattleScar" as having "unusual confidence and sophistication." The film was also covered by IndieWire, Screen Anarchy, Filmmaker Magazine, among other outlets, and won Best VR Experience at the Raindance Film Festival in London.
Nico is also developing "Momoguro," a multi-platform franchise he created with Martín Allais in partnership with the 9x Emmy-winning studio Baobab. The first entry in the franchise, the video game "Wild World of Momos," was nominated for a Children's and Family Emmy for Outstanding Interactive Media in 2023.
His first feature film "Finding Sofía" debuted at the 2016 Austin Film Festival and was distributed domestically by Gunpowder & Sky / Film Buff.
