Adapted from Nicholas Adams’ 1992 novel, the much better titled Horrorscope, Tarot is the feature directorial debut from writers/directors Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg. The story opens at a rented mansion inhabited by a group of college students celebrating a birthday, although tensions are high due to a recent break-up within the group. When they run out of beer, the group search the mansion for hidden alcohol only to discover strange tarot cards within the basement.
Despite saying that it is a sacred rule of Tarot to not use someone else’s deck, Hayley (Harriet Slater) agrees to use the strange deck to read everyone else’s horoscopes. One by one, their horoscopes come true as they meet their ends, with it becoming clear that the group are...

The movie Tarot features a group of college friends being hunted by a deck of tarot cards. Despite negative reviews, Tarot surpassed its budget. The actors bring tension and scare to the film, with notable performances by Harriet Slater, Adain Bradley, Jacob Batalon, and others in key roles.
The scares and drama of Tarot follow a group of college friends who are perfectly brought to life by their actors. The movie is about seven friends being hunted and killed by a deck of tarot cards, which they use against their better judgment. The cast itself is relatively small, and by Tarot's ending, several deaths and shocking twists have happened.
Though reviews of Tarot claim the characters are thin, the cast is ultimately able to execute the film effectively to create tense moments and scares. Though it has many negative ratings, Tarot was able to quintuple its budget, in part because of the cast's performances.

Where are all my horror fans? Netflix recently added 10 horror films to its platform on the first of August. While I recommend checking out each new release, the one that should be at the top of your watchlist is the 2024 supernatural horror film Tarot. This movie is criminally underrated, in my opinion, when it really deserves all the love and attention.
Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg (The Expendables 4) wrote and directed Tarot, making it their feature film directorial debuts. Like most movies nowadays, Tarot is based on another piece of work. It's based on Nicholas Adams' 1992 novel Horrorscope. Although panned by critics, the horror flick still managed to be a box-office success, grossing $49 million worldwide against a budget of $8 million.
Here's how I see it. It's okay to read critic reviews but don't let what someone else has said and their opinions deter you from watching a movie. Who knows,...

Tarot is one of the oldest and most popular methods of divination. A form of cartomancy, it’s the practice of connecting with ancestors, spirit guides, or hidden aspects of the self by drawing cards and interpreting their hidden meanings. British occultist Pamela Colman Smith illustrated the iconic Rider-Waite-Smith deck which remains the standard representation of each card and forms the basis of most tarot analysis today. But there are endless interpretations of the 78-card structure. Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg’s Tarot imagines a similar deck with the power to bring a reading’s final outcome to bloody life. Designed by a witch who infused the deck with her dying blood, this grisly stack contains malevolent variations of tarot’s most frightening faces.

Tarot is now available on VOD through Amazon and Vudu for $9.99 to rent or $14.99 to buy. Despite negative reviews, Tarot earned $37.2 million globally, surpassing its $8.25 million budget. Tarot succeeded at the box office in a year where horror films struggled, even outselling movies with more prominent casts.
Tarot has now made its way over to VOD. A 2024 horror film, Tarots plot turns harmless fortune-telling cards into something far more sinister when a friend group goes against the most fundamental rule of Tarot card reading, inadvertently releasing an evil into the world that they must fight to stop or risk a fatal fate. Tarot is co-directed by Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg and features a leading cast including Harriet Slater, Adain Bradley, Jacob Batalon, Avantika, Humberly Gonzlez, Wolfgang Novogratz, Larsen Thompson, and Olwen Fourre. Tarot is expected to end the week with $11.7 million at the domestic box office. Despite its excellent box office returns, Tarot has struggled to earn the respect of critics. Tarot earned a 20% Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer score.
Tarot is thriving at the box office, but critics still have little love for the newly-released horror. There has been much pessimism floating around regarding this past weekend's box office. I myself have tossed some of that pessimism into the void. Much of that has to do with the fact that the summer movie season kicked off with "The Fall Guy" opening to a wildly disappointing $28.5 million, marking the worst start to summer in more than 20 years. Far less ink has been spilled regarding Sony's new horror movie "Tarot," which also opened over the weekend and snuck into the top five on the domestic charts with a $6.5 million debut. At first glance, it's not a good look for a movie from a major studio opening on more than 3,100 screens across North America. However, this might actually end up being a sneaky little hit.
"Tarot" also pulled in $3.7 million internationally, giving it a $10.2 million global start. Again, that number isn't going to break any records. It's not...

A Pisces, a Taurus, a Capricorn, a Leo, a Virgo, and an Aquarius walk into a rented mansion for their Libra friend’s birthday party. The seven college kids soon run out of booze, go poking around in places they shouldn’t, and summon a fate worse than death when they find a mysterious deck of cards harboring a hidden evil. Title card: “Tarot.” All signs… point to yikes.
Written and directed by Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg, Screen Gems’ latest scary movie is willfully ridiculous. If you’ve ever fumbled through a dusty old deck of tarot cards, hoping they’d reveal something about your future, Tarot (2024) might just make you think twice before you shuffle again. This horror flick, helmed by first-timers Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg, deals a hand that’s both terrifying and delightfully over-the-top. The film taps into the old-school charm of supernatural slashers, where a group of friends find themselves in a deadly game of cosmic consequences.

Horror movies can grow from any place. That’s one of the most exciting aspects of the genre – any idea can become scary as hell in the right hands. With flicks like Ouija: Origin of Evil and Annabelle: Creation surprising audiences, it’s not unreasonable to find great hits from even thin concepts. Tarot, the latest Sony and Screen Gems horror film, seeks to replicate this success. Unfortunately, despite great creature designs, Tarot stumbles over its own feet at every opportunity. The result is not only frustrating but an absolute slog.

Writers/Directors Spenser Cohen & Anna Halberg keep it simple with the PG-13 horror movie Tarot. Instead of a cold open to hook audiences on the horror, Tarot launches straight into introducing the group of seven friends partaking in a party weekend at an isolated manor.
It’s there that they dabble with things they shouldn’t, setting in motion a curse that will pick them off one by one, slasher style. With an equal group of monsters to match, Tarot has the makings of a breezy gateway horror movie perfect for sleepovers, though it’s undermined by surface-level characters and storytelling.

When announcing the Dcu Batman reboot, Gunn offered some interesting The Brave and the Bold details that teased Nightwing's likely involvement with the movie. The director confirmed that Bat-Family members will play a role in the movie, and given how Damian Wayne — the film's Robin — is the fourth male Robin, Dick Grayson should be around.

Last month, it was announced that the movie had been given a May 10th theatrical release date. You can watch the trailer in the embed above.
Best known for playing Peter Parker’s best friend Ned in the recent Spider-Man movies, Jacob Batalon plays the title character in the horror comedy Syfy / Hulu / Amazon series Reginald the Vampire, and also has a lead role in Tarot. He’s joined in the cast by Avantika (Mean Girls), Alana Boden (I Am Elizabeth Smart), Adain Bradley (Wrong Turn: The Foundation), Humberly González (Ginny & Georgia), Wolfgang Novogratz (The Last Summer...

Earlier this year, Sony / Screen Gems announced that they would be giving the horror film Horrorscope a theatrical release on June 28, 2024. But in late October, Paramount announced that they were moving A Quiet Place: Day One from its previously announced March 8, 2024 release date to June 28. So it’s no surprise to hear (via Borys Kit) that Screen Gems has decided to shift Horrorscope forward to May 10th. Thanks to A Quiet Place: Day One, we’re going to see Horrorscope a month earlier.

Screen Gems horror movie Horrorscope had been set for theatrical release on June 28, 2024, a prime summer slot, but we’ve learned this week that Sony has re-dated the movie.
Horrorscope will now release in theaters on May 10, 2024.
Why the move? It may have something to do with the fact that A Quiet Place: Day One is currently dated for theatrical release on June 28, moving into that new date just last month.
Jacob Batalon (“Reginald the Vampire”), Alana Boden (The Invitation), Adain Bradley (Wrong Turn: The Foundation) and Avantika (Senior Year) will star alongside Humberly González (Nobody), Wolfgang Novogratz (Assassination Nation), Larsen Thompson (“The Midnight Club”), Harriet Slater (“Pennyworth”) and Olwen Fouéré (Mandy).
Anna Halberg and Spenser Cohen (Moonfall) wrote the script and will direct the movie.

James Gunn’s development of the new Superman reboot and Dcu kickstart, Superman: Legacy, wasn’t affected by the strikes as the writer and director of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy was able to submit his screenplay just before the writers started their picketing. While the dual strikes were in effect, he was able to continue with the project purely with his director’s cap on. Pre-production is currently continuing in full force, and more and more news of casting is released, including a new Jimmy Olsen and Eve Teschmacher being cast with Skylar Gisondo and Sara Sampaio.
While Gunn concluded his initial script prior to the strikes, there were inevitable rewrites and additional drafts to be written after completion, as is done with nearly all screenplays. Now that the strikes have subsided, Gunn has been able to go back and work on his script. Recently, the frequently interactive...

Jensen Ackles casting as Batman in The Brave and the Bold is just a rumor, says James Gunn. Fans may love Ackles for the role, but Gunn denies any casting decision for the new Batman film has been made at the moment. The Brave and the Bold still has no script.
A new The Brave and the Bold casting rumor that claimed Jensen Ackles was cast as Batman has been shot down by James Gunn. Ackles is the most frequently mentioned name by fans where casting for the new DC Universe Batman is concerned. While it has been confirmed that Bruce Wayne and his son, Damian, will be the focus of the movie, DC fans will seemingly have to wait quite some time to learn new details from The Brave and the Bold's story and cast.

James Gunn is famously active on social media, especially on the new platform, Threads, where he keeps sharing details and answering fan questions. And, just recently, he gave us two big updates for two highly-anticipated Dcu projects upcoming in the next several years – ‘Superman: Legacy,’ and ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold.’
Both will be huge for DC Studios and for Gunn, who took over as co-ceo with Peter Safran a couple of years ago.
Recently, rumors started spreading on Twitter about the casting choices for ‘The Brave and the Bold.’ Jensen Ackles was allegedly cast as Bruce Wayne, Javon Walton as Damian Wayne, aka Robin, Wolfgang Novogratz as Dick Grayson, aka Nightwing, and Clancy Brown as Alfred Pennyworth.

James Gunn, who is set to direct Superman: Legacy for the new DC Universe, shares some exciting casting updates for the next Man of Steel. As Gunn is wrapping up his time with Marvel Studios, the filmmaker is fully going into his role as one of the DC Studios co-CEOs. Together with Peter Safran, the duo is crafting a new DC Universe that will be a properly interconnected franchise across film and TV. One of the big projects in the works is Superman: Legacy, which Gunn is both writing and directing.
While the DC Universe's Clark Kent has yet to be chosen, the casting search is underway for Superman: Legacy. At the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 premiere, Gunn spoke with Variety about where they are at with casting the DC icon. According to Gunn, they have some "really great choices," without revealing any specific names of who is...

DC Studios is looking for someone to play Clark Kent in James Gunn's Superman: Legacy movie and a new fan trailer makes a convincing argument for that actor to be Wolfgang Novogratz. Gunn is now co-ceo of DC Studios and is shepherding a reset of DC's cinematic franchise, closing out the Dceu with The Flash movie (and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom) and relaunching with Superman: Legacy in 2025, which will kick off the theatrical side of the DC Universe.
Much is still unknown about Superman: Legacy, but the biggest thing, of course, is who will play Superman. One potential person is Novogratz, an actor who is frequently listed on Superman fan-cast lists and who Screen Culture uses in a Superman: Legacy fan trailer.
Novogratz has been a popular choice among fans ever since it was confirmed Gunn was doing a Superman reboot. And now that a casting director has been hired for Superman: Legacy,...

New Superman: Legacy rumored casting details point to the search for a young Chris Pratt-type actor to play Clark Kent. The DC Universe is gearing up to take flight with Superman: Legacy in 2025. The movie is being directed and written by James Gunn, who is now in charge of DC Studios' creative output, which goes to show how important the next Superman movie is. Henry Cavill's Superman exit was tied to a younger actor taking on the role, and all eyes are on who will play Gunn's Clark Kent. Now, a rumor gives some details on the search for the new Superman.
According to Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic, Gunn is looking for "a young Chris Pratt-type" actor to play the DC Universe's Clark Kent in Superman: Legacy.

The new DC Universe Justice League gets imagined with a predominantly younger cast taking on DC's premier team in stunning fan art. James Gunn and Peter Safran recently announced the first projects that will kick off their DC Universe Chapter One, and the reveal confirmed that a new Batman will be rising up to meet Gunn's rebooted Clark Kent, who premieres in 2025's Superman: Legacy. With new actors set to be announced in the near future for DC's biggest heroes, a series of fan portraits imagines the cast of the DC Universe's younger Justice League.
Artist 21Xfour imagined what the roster of DC's new Justice League might look like, and following Henry Cavill's Superman exit, the artist included one of the more popular fancasts for the role, with actor Wolfgang Novogratz (Sierra Burgess Is A Loser) as Superman.

A new piece of fan art imagines what the DC Universe's Justice League might look like with younger actors taking the reins following James Gunn and Peter Safran's franchise shakeup. The DC Universe is currently in flux as the franchise attempts to chart a new future after Gunn and Safran were named as co-CEOs of the recently rebranded DC Studios late last year. While DC still has four big-screen adventures slated to arrive in theaters later this year, each of this year's releases are remnants of decisions made by the franchise's previous leadership. It is widely expected that Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom will serve as the final entries in the former Dceu before Gunn and Safran's new vision for the franchise takes hold.

When "Stranger Things" launched in 2016, most of its cast were virtual unknowns. Aside from veteran stars like Winona Ryder, the show was the first leading role for many of its cast members, especially the younger kids. Part of what made the show work so well was the fact that all those young kids were supremely-talented. The Netflix hit asks a lot from its stars — lots of action, lots of emotion — and every member of the ever-growing ensemble is up to the task, which makes for a fun watch.
It's also a useful launching pad for further stardom. The series tends to take breaks between seasons — three years passed between Seasons 3 and 4 — leaving the cast free to pursue other acting opportunities. This raises their profiles, providing them a solid base from which to hopefully continue their careers after "Stranger Things" comes to an end with its fifth season. Unsurprisingly, a lot...

Amazon Studios brings the story of Marie Curie to the screen with Radioactive starring Oscar-nominated actress Rosamund Pike as the pioneering scientist.
Directed by Marjane Satrapi (Persepolis) and written by Jack Thorne, Radioactive is based on the 2010 graphic novel Radioactive: Marie & Pierre Curie: A Tale of Love and Fallout by Lauren Redniss. The film adaptation follows Curie’s life and the legacy of scientific breakthroughs. At the same time, the story tells the darker consequences that came about after her amazing work.
Curie married fellow scientist Pierre Curie (Sam Riley) who went on to raise two daughters and change the face of science forever by jointly winning the Nobel for the discovery of radium in 1903. After the death of her husband, Curie continues her research and invites scandal when she has an affair with another prominent scientist, Paul Langevin (Aneurin Barnard). However, it is Marie’s commitment to science which prevails,...

Now, there are a handful of bumps along the way, as well as an inconsistent tone, but the work of Natalia Dyer, as well as the genuine heart on display, rules the day. The film is a mix of comedy and drama, set in the early 2000s. Sixteen-year-old Alice (Dyer) has always been a good Catholic girl in the Midwest, but that’s about to change. When an innocent AOL chat room excursion accidentally turns racy,...
