Dan Abramovici is an actor/filmmaker from Canada. This background has shaped in him an interest in stories that question identity, and explore a life on the spectrum.
After graduating from the Canadian Film Centre's prestigious Actor Conservatory, Dan wrote and starred in first feature film: Ben's At Home. The film picked up numerous awards, including Best Feature at the Canadian Film Festival, an Audience Choice award at Gasparilla, and a Canadian Comedy Award. The feature had a successful theatrical run in Canada before being made available on Netflix in 2017.
Abramovici's next feature script, You Have Feet In Your Shoes, picked up a Top 10 award at Cinequest, where Laurence Kasdan (Star Wars, Indiana Jones) and Dennis Lehane (The Wire, The Drop) served as writing mentors.
liminal, which Dan wrote and directed, won the Best Short award at Canadian Film Fest and Snowdance International film festival, as well as an Honorable Mention at the Oscar-qualifying Dances With Films Festival. It went on to play more Academy Qualifying festivals such as HollyShorts, Dublin, Newport Beach, BendFilm, and Raindance.
Play It Again followed in 2021. The LGBTQ+ comedy premiered at the Austin International Film Festival where it picked up the Jury Award for Best Short, making it Academy qualifying for 2022.
Coming in 2024 is Spaceman. The surrealist short stars Academy Award Winner JK Simmons (Spiderman, Whiplash, Juno), and Mena Massoud (Disney's Aladdin), and serves as proof of concept for his upcoming feature film Searching for Marceau, now in development. The script for Searching for Marceau is in the top 1% of Dramatic Features on Coverfly, and has placed as a finalist in Slamdance, Austin, and is a top 100 script at the highly competitive Shore Scripts Competition.
