Chimera Strain is an upcoming high-concept/low-budget sci-fi film about a mad scientist trying to save his children by editing their DNA. It comes from first time writer-director Maurice Haeems. I love a mad scientist story, and with all the controversy and philosophical dilemmas posed by Crispr, this movie seems to be very timely. Let’s hope that it lives up to its potential.

Here is the synopsis: “A brilliant but disturbed scientist named Quint (Henry Ian Cusick) freezes his own two children alive, while he races to cure their deadly genetic disease by decoding the DNA of the immortal Turritopsis jellyfish.”

This premiered at a few smaller film festivals last year, and is arriving on VOD this March. Henry Ian Cusick stars as a "brilliant but disturbed scientist" who decides to freeze his kids, in order to develop the cure their deadly genetic disease by decoding the DNA of the immortal Turritopsis jellyfish. It explores our fascination with immortality and all-consuming obsession with understanding our genetics. Also starring Kathleen Quinlan, Erika Ervin, Jenna Harrison, Karishma Ahluwalia, and Jennifer Gjulameti. ‘Medical horror’ is strange sub genre that could contain a wide range of movies. From The Fly to The Human Centipede trilogy to Frankenstein to Re-Animator. Each of those movies is very different but each of them also share some similarities with the latest movie in that list, Chimera.

Chimera follows one man, a father and scientist who wants to freeze his children alive in the hope that it will give him time to create a cure for the deadly disease they both have. Henry Ian Cusick plays the father, Quint, and he is a good actor to have you revolve your movie around. Known mainly for his TV work in Lost and The 100, Cusick puts in a strong, believable performance and he really does hold the film together.

Shut Eye will remain open at Hulu, although the drama is setting its sights on a new boss.

The streamer has renewed the Jeffrey Donovan-KaDee Strickland drama for a second 10-episode season amid word that showrunner David Hudgins has exited the series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, John Shiban (Hell on Wheels) has been brought in to replace him.
