John is an award winning, highly experienced Steadicam Owner Operator & Lighting Cameraman, with two full feature films, many shorts & countless corporate credits as Director of Photography. John works mainly in high level corporate video, feature film, broadcast television, multi-camera OB production and live streaming.
Whether it be shooting an independent feature, filming behind the scenes on three series of Red Dwarf, directing live multi-cam shows, covering event for international clients, or lighting interviews with global CEOs, John's calm, fast, reliable & edit-focused shooting together with his sense of humour & attention to detail have led to consistent work with many clients for over 20 years, as well as new commissions every month.
Through Steadicam John has vast experience in almost every production environment, from music videos, studio shooting, aerial camerawork, & more. John has also been a Steadicam instructor on Tiffen & NFTS courses for almost 15 years.
Steadicam aside, John also owns a wide assortment of digital film & broadcast equipment, including several full frame 4K cameras, bright lenses, lighting, monitoring, sound, multi-camera & live streaming kit.
As a producer, John has organised shoots all over the world, including 10 years as official corporate video crew supplier (via Ouno Creative) for Farnborough International Airshow, several Ultimate Strongman OBs, a whole month at the Edinburgh Fringe which he provided, set up & engineered the multi-camera equipment, even directing and vision mixing several live shows which were transmitted to Odeon Cinemas & BBC Arts Online.
John is based in the South of England, but often works further afield and abroad. Recent trips have included Canada, Andorra, Georgia Montenegro, Uzbekistan, Monaco, Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Hollywood, USA, Thailand, & the Philippines.
Born in Wiltshire, John completed A levels at Bishop Wordsworths School in Salisbury, went on to gain an HND in Film & TV Production at Wiltshire College, and then a BA (hons) degree in the subject from Bournemouth University. During this time John was also expanding his skills in film & video production, particularly outside broadcasting & multi-camera, as well as stills photography through assignments with the Mail on Sunday, regular feature photos in Wiltshire Life magazine and shooting weddings and portraits.
John has been a Scout leader for 20 years, helping lead weekly meetings & many trips abroad. He also regularly heads up adult teams at national & international events, & runs an annual ski trip for Scout Network members and adult volunteers.
John can drive, cycle, swim, ski (with a camera) and ride a horse.
