Richard Fung (Producer/Director/Writer):
Growing up in Regent Park, the oldest and largest low-income housing in Canada, Richard Fung , Chinese-Vietnamese Canadian born, realized while in high school that he wanted a career in film and television. He gained his knowledge and experience through Humber College where he graduated with honours in 2008. Since then, Richard has won many awards as a filmmaker that include:
· 2nd Place in the Fall 2008 24-hour Film Challenge in Toronto for Monster Face
· Top 3 Distinguished Documentary for My Universe for the Real Ideas Studio Program at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival
· Winner for Best Broadcast at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival in the Real Ideas Studio program for The Art of Pitching
· Grand Jury Prize winner at the 2009 Slamdance Film Festival for the Real Ideas Studio program for Lies on the Prize
· Winner of the 2013 Audience Choice Award at the Regent Park Film Festival for The Inspired Souls
· Winner of the 2014 Best Emerging Director Award at the Regent Park Film Festival for The Journey
Richard continues to create films on his own and is a co-founder of the film and video production company called Black Belt Productions Inc. Black Belt provides production and post-production services for companies and organizations in need of videos. They also partner with other organizations to provide paid experience work for historically underserved youth in communities like those served by Pathways Canada.
In the future, Richard hopes to grow his company and be able to continue to provide experiences for historically underserved youth in the film and video industry. He also hopes to keep growing that film community and help them gain experience with having representation in the industry.
