Hector Berrellez is a former D.E.A. Supervisor and Special Agent, with
thirty years extensive experience in counter terrorism and narcotics
enforcement. He is recognized as one of the most highest decorated Drug
Enforcement Agent in the history of the bureau. He was recognized by
the U.S. Attorney General Ed Meese for heroism. He received the Federal
Bar Association Medal of Valor, the Federal Executive Board Chairman's
Special Award. And is credited for his handling and solving of the
kidnap, torture and murder of undercover DEA Agent Enrique "Kiki"
Camarena by drug traffickers in Guadalajara, Mexico in which Hector
received the prestigious DEA Administrator's Award.
In 1996 Hector retired from the DEA and is now a highly sought after Certified Polygraph Examiner. since his retirement he has been working with long time friend and business associate Brandon Pender (also a former law enforcement official) in establishing 'SPI Group Inc.'a high-level International Investigation and Executive Security firm. Specializing in Business, Government and Entertainment industry Investigations and Executive Protection where he resides as the CEO.
The Michael Mann 1990 U.S television mini-series about Camarena, starring Treat Williams and Steven Bauer, was produced (Drug Wars: The Camarena Story) an unofficial record of the events that occurred. Treat Williams portrayed Hector in the movies but had to use the alias of 'Ray Carson' because Hector was still an active undercover DEA special agent and needed to keep his 'cover profile'. Nevertheless, he was still able to serve as a Technical Advisor to the production.
He has a BS and BA from the University of Phoenix, AZ and a Doctorate degree in International Law from the University of Michoacan, Michoacan, Mexico.
He is considered an expert by the U.S. Government in terrorism, security protection and threat assessment. He has implemented anti-terrorist security measures for U.S. Embassies in Central and South America.
