The Coven has boarded Patricia Heaton-led horror The Beldham from Wicked Myth Films and heads to Cannes with worldwide sales rights.

Angela Gulner’s feature debut follows single mother Harper played by Katie Parker (The Fall Of The House Of Usher) who moves in with her own mother (Heaton) to renovate a fading suburban farmhouse.

Before long, Harper finds herself haunted by a threatening presence that seems to desire her infant child. Inspired by folklore about the Beldham, an old hag that feeds on the souls of the young, the film blurs the lines between myth and the true...

After racking up more than a decade of acting credits, Angela Gulner – who has been in the genre films Take Back the Night, Dead in the Water, and The Summoned, as well as a season 3 episode of the Netflix series Glow – is making her feature directorial debut with the psychological horror thriller The Beldham, which is currently filming in Oklahoma. Deadline reports that The Beldham stars Patricia Heaton of Everybody Loves Raymond and The Middle, as well as Corbin Bernsen (City on a Hill), Katie Parker (The Midnight Club), Emma Fitzpatrick (The Collection), and Hannah Reese (Baby Money).

Described as being “about mother-daughter relationships”, The Beldham sees Heaton taking on the role of Sadie, a fierce caregiver determined to protect her family from a monstrous presence that threatens to tear them all apart.

Exclusive: Patricia Heaton (Carol’s Second Act) has signed on to star in The Beldham, a new psychological horror-thriller about mother-daughter relationships, marking the feature directorial debut of actress Angela Gulner (Glow).

Others set for the Gulner-penned indie, which is currently in production in Oklahoma, include 2x Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Corbin Bernsen (City on a Hill), Katie Parker (The Midnight Club), Emma Fitzpatrick (Take Back the Night) and Hannah Reese (Baby Money).

Turbo Kid: Released by Epic Pictures Group, Turbo Kid will have its official theatrical and VOD release next Friday on August 28th.

Hollywood has lots of explosions, big budgets and even bigger stars to bring attention to its offerings. But all the money in the world doesn’t guarantee a good film (*cough* *cough* Transformers), and a lack thereof doesn’t mean a film can’t capture the imaginations of its audience. There are plenty of great movies made on independent budgets, outside of Hollywood or even the United States, or that get straight-to-dvd releases. Self-indulgence is fine in moderation. After all, it’s a fine line, especially in film, between personal endeavor and audience satisfaction. Zack Snyder’s slavish commitment to recreating Alan Moore’s landmark Watchmen on the silver screen robbed the film of any personality and delivered a production held together by terrific set design. Nowhere near the bore that Watchmen was, Artois the Goat nevertheless dips into the pool of over-indulgence a few times throughout its much-too-long runtime of 2 hours. The Bogart brothers, who wrote and directed this pronouncedly quick-witted film, arm it with a curious premise: Virgil (Mark Scheibmeir, looking every bit like a younger Peter Serafinowicz), a lab technician whose flavor additive testing job is a mind-numbing daily grind, turns his life upside down in order to make the perfect cheese. There’s also the matter of a new job in Detroit, a suffering long-distance relationship with his beloved...

Austin-shot indie Artois the Goat, which premiered at SXSW 2009 (with a live goat at the Ritz and everything) has finally made it to DVD after a long and successful film-fest tour. It's a sweet romantic comedy/foodie film from Cliff Bogart and Kyle Bogart (we sure do love our brother filmmaking teams in this town) that deserves more attention than it's received so far.

Virgil (Mark Scheibmeir) is a lanky slacker who spends his days working in a lab that creates artificial flavorings, and his spare time with the woman he loves, Angie (Sydney Andrews), often enjoying foreign goat cheeses procured (perhaps not entirely legally) by Virgil's mysterious and paranoiac friend Yens (Stephen Taylor Fry). SXSW is one of my favorite festivals of the year as it showcases some of the best and most innovative real independent films, and with this host of world premiers, it's also playing alot of Sundance material as well as genre fare from all over the world, many of which we've covered heavily in these pages.

From the Sundance lineup, we have films like Moon, The Immaculate Conception of Little Dizzle, You Won't Miss Me, Grace, and Humpday, among others.

For the world genre material we've covered, there's Lake Mungo, The Square, Zift, and Awaydays.
