The world-famous video game developer brought the latest look at his upcoming sequel to SXSW, treating audiences to an in-depth preview of his anticipated follow-up to 2019’s Death Stranding. Clocking in at over 10 minutes, the new trailer shares plot elements, character reveals, gameplay, and gorgeous vistas from Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. It helps collecting onscreen talent that would make any producer blush: as revealed in trailers dating all the way back to 2022, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach returns Léa Seydoux, Norman Reedus, Nicolas Winding Refn, and Guillermo del Toro from its predecessor while adding to the fold George Miller, Fatih Akin, Elle Fanning, Luca Marinelli, and Shioli Kutsuna. With the announcement of a June 26 release comes the project’s new trailer, edited by Kojima himself.

Per his standards, Kojima hasn’t revealed too great a deal––little surprise from a man who’d craft games around characters seen across zero marketing––but there’s no mistaking its borderline-vérité visual sense, off-center comic sensibility, melodramatic pathos, or apocalyptic foreshadowing for anyone else.

Coming out of PlayStation’s latest State of Play on February 13, the biggest question we’re asking is, where was Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2: On the Beach? SXSW 2025 already has a stacked horror lineup this year, and they’ve made it even moreso with the announcement of the fourth round of Keynote and Featured Speakers this year. That includes the cast and creators of HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us, and Kojima Productions’ own Hideo Kojima, who is set to discuss and share new details about Death Stranding 2: On The Beach.

Ahead of the second season of The Last of Us debuting this spring, co-creators, executive producers, writers, and directors Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, and cast members Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Gabriel Luna, Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, and Young Mazino will be on hand to provide a glimpse into the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, Hideo Kojima will sharing more about Death Stranding 2, which includes the returning Norman Reedus as Sam Porter Bridges, as well as George Miller, Fatih Akin, Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna.

Last night, the news broke that It Ends With Us actor and director Justin Baldoni has officially sued co-star Blake Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds to the tune of $400 million - and it goes well beyond the Nicepool situation!

The lawsuit claims that the couple hijacked his film and attempted to "destroy him with false allegations of sexual harassment." The 179-page complaint also accuses Lively and Reynolds of civil extortion, defamation and invasion of privacy.

Earlier this week, Justin Baldoni's lawyer Bryan Freedman sent a litigation hold letter to Marvel Studios and Disney, demanding that they share all documents relating to the development of the Nicepool character in Deadpool and Wolverine.

In the movie, the Wade Wilson variant has a number of exchanges with the Og Deadpool that certainly could be construed as making reference to some of Blake Lively's accusations against her It Ends With Us co-star and director, and Baldoni is convinced that Reynolds was "flagrantly mocking" him with the creation of the character.

THR has now shared an update, and it seems Freedman believes that the character of Nicepool was developed around the same time Lively and Baldoni's relationship soured during the It Ends With Us shoot. Apparently, Nicepool was created before the rift between the actors, but scenes involving the variant were shot later on, following the November 2023 conclusion of the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Though the prospect of Deadpool coming back for a third film would have been enough to draw audiences in, Deadpool & Wolverine upped the movie's box office appeal by bringing back Hugh Jackman to star alongside Ryan Reynolds. Jackman had previously played Wolverine for 17 years before retiring from the role, so his decision to return sent shockwaves among Marvel fans. Apparently, that included Reynolds, who co-wrote the film.

In an interview with IndieWire, the actor revealed that writing "Wolverine dialogue was a terrifying process." Reynolds used this opportunity to heap praise onto his friend and costar Jackman, speaking more specifically about a scene wherein WOlverine gives Deadpool a heavy reality check:

"Hugh took that monologue and just devoured it. He chewed it, swallowed it, and delivered for us…and at the end, there’s a stage direction at the bottom that briefly says after he finishes that whole speech, 'a flicker of regret crosses his pupil.

Superhero movies have a complicated relationship with the Academy Awards. Typically, their nominations tend to be for more technical categories, such as Best Visual Effects. A notable exception to this was Black Panther receiving a nod for Best Picture. Even so, the minds behind Deadpool & Wolverine discussed whether the McU's first R-rated outing could be an Oscars contender, specifically in the "Best Adapted Screenplay" category.

Speaking with IndieWire, director Shawn Levy explained:

2024 was never shaping up to be a particularly strong year for comic book-based movies (especially after Marvel Studios announced that only one MCU film would be released), but we weren't expecting it to be quite so disappointing - from a critical or commercial standpoint.

Of the seven CBMs that hit theaters this year, only Deadpool and Wolverine was positively-reviewed, and even that was far what you'd call critically-acclaimed with a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes. Since the first trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine dropped, Wade Wilson calling himself "Marvel Jesus" has proven to be one of the film's most memorable lines. The film overall completely demolished the fourth wall with its approach to Marvel's post-Endgame record, which is generally viewed as less successful than the previous decade of films. However, the scene in which Deadpool declares himself the messiah of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is perhaps the most infamous line from the film.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds, unpacked how Marvel executives felt about the line and its (joking) insinuation that the film would revitalize the MCU. The actor, who also wrote and produced Deadpool & Wolverine, explained:

"'Marvel Jesus' didn’t seem to present an issue. If anything, the studio leaned in. I think most people understood the line in the spirit it was intended. The real surprise was...

After Deadpool & Wolverine brought Ryan Reynolds' Merc with a Mouth into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, speculation as to when and how the character may reappear reached an all-time high. Deadpool and Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds has donned the costume again for a new promotional video, which sees the Merc With a Mouth join forces with the equally foul-mouthed Kidpool (Inez Reynolds) and our original live-action Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, to help eliminate sick kids... ehhh, make that eliminate the sickness from kids.

The video, which is part of Reynolds and Maximum Effort's annual Christmas campaign in support of The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), finds Wade Wilson and his younger variant commandeering Santa's sleigh to deliver gifts in the most haphazard way possible. When Kidpool asks what they should do next, Wilson suggests it's time to tackle childhood sickness.

Deadpool acknowledges that they might be a bit too "R-rated" for the task, and a much more wholesome representative appears in the form of Wonder Woman herself, Lynda Carter.

2024 mega success Deadpool & Wolverine doesn't exactly pull its punches, but Shawn Levy revealed that one joke didn't make the cut after Disney insisted it was cut. The offending joke in question has now been revealed, and it's not exactly surprising why it didn't make it, even with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's long-awaited team-up coming with an R rating.

Thanks to the now-publicly-available screenplay (via Disney Debut), we now know exactly what the joke was, and why Disney balked at its inclusion. In the exchange between Blade (named Billy in the script to hide his identity) and Wade, in which Deadpool learns that Magneto is already dead, his original reaction was set to include an explicit reference to Mickey Mouse:

"We can't even afford one more X-Man? Disney is so cheap. I can barely breathe with all this Mickey Mouse c**k in my throat.",

Disney/Marvel Studios clearly gave Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy and star Ryan Reynolds a lot of leeway when it came to the more risqué material they were able to include in the movie, but there was one joke that evidently went a little too far for a certain studio higher-up.

Back in August, Reynolds revealed that he was asked to take out one particular gag - though he refused to disclose the line at the time, and vowed never to do so.

“There was a note about this one line, and I’ll say this, which is that I was asked to take the line out. I was not even mandated to take the line out. To quote someone in a very high position of leadership at Disney, ‘I’m in for a penny, I’m in for a pound. And if you take it out, I’d love it.

Deadpool and Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds has shared a new video to Instagram, and while we can't actually hear what he's saying, the fact that he's suited-up as the Merc With a Mouth in a Yuletide setting would certainly appear to confirm that a new Special Presentation is on the way.

The fact that there is a demand for Deadpool 4 so soon should come as no surprise given the immense success of Deadpool & Wolverine. The record-breaking MCU movie has proven that there is still a lot of enthusiasm for the character while also proving that it is still in capable hands now that Deadpool is officially part of the MCU.

After commenting on the positive response to Deadpool & Wolverine, Extra TV suggested in an interview with Ryan Reynolds posted on X that he could film "another one," to which he responded:

With Deadpool and Wolverine now available to stream on Disney+, Moviefone has shared an exclusive interview with Dafne Keen, who made her return as Laura, aka X-23, in Marvel Studios' first R-rated movie after debuting as the character in James Mangold's Logan.

Ryan Reynolds has taken to Instagram to share another deleted scene from Deadpool and Wolverine, and it's basically a montage of the Merc With a Mouth doing what he does best: annoying the sh*it out of Logan.

The sequence would have taken place after Wade and Wolvie leave the diner (this is where those "piggyback" set photos that did the rounds online during filming originated), and finds Deadpool yammering on about a number of subjects, including Logan's failed relationship with Jean Grey, and the God of Thunder.

Wilson brings up the "why was Thor crying" scene from earlier in the movie, admiring how handsome the Mighty Avenger is up close... while also making fun of his "cheap hair extensions."

It's a fun scene, but doesn't really add anything to the plot, so it's easy enough to understand why Reynolds and director Shawn Levy decided not to include it.

Before Deadpool & Wolverine became one of the biggest movies of the year, there were many different concepts for what the movie could be, including one that would have revealed that Wade Wilson had been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) the entire time.

“We had a ‘Deadpool’s Deleted Scenes Extravaganza’ where we were going to try and show that he was in the MCU the whole time – you just didn’t see his scenes, they were all on the cutting room floor,” executive producer Wendy Jacobson explained on Assembled: The Making of Deadpool & Wolverine, adding they were “really just trying to find a reason for this movie to be.” It would have been a fun idea, but once Hugh Jackman entered the picture as Wolverine, the film found its purpose.

Though this movie marked Wade Wilson's (Ryan Reynolds) MCU debut, producer Wendy Jacobson has revealed that an idea was pitched early on that would have revealed that the Merc With a Mouth was in the Marvel Cinematic Universe "the whole time" via some kind of "Deleted Scene Extravaganza."

It seems the idea was to include a series of scenes from a number of previous MCU films that never made the cut. "You just didn't see his scenes. They were all on the cutting room floor," Jacobson explained.

This sounds like it might have been a fun addition to the movie, but it's easy enough to understand why it was scrapped at the same time.

Deadpool & Wolverine was a smash hit for Marvel. Reuniting Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool led to huge box office returns for the Marvel Cinematic Universe film, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film of all-time. Channing Tatum was given the opportunity to take on the role of Gambit in Deadpool and Wolverine, after originally missing out on playing the heroic mutant when Disney acquired 20th Century Fox's assets and brought the studio's X-Men franchise to an end.

Tatum made his MCU debut as Remy LeBeau in the Void, joining Elektra, Blade, and X-23 as members of the Resistance Wade Wilson and Logan encountered when they were stranded by Mr. Paradox.

A recently-released deleted scene from the movie strongly hinted that Gambit will be making his way to Earth-616 via a "Marvel Sparkle Circle" at some point, but we still don't know for sure if Tatum will get to reprise the role.

While chatting to Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist podcast, co-star Ryan Reynolds said he didn't know of any solid plans for Gambit's return, but did mention that the studio is very high on Tatum's take on the Ragin' Cajun.

Before cameras even started rolling on Deadpool and Wolverine, there were rumors that Nicolas Cage was set to reprise his role as Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider, and we'd later learn that there were indeed early plans to include a version of the character via some officially-released concept art.

Although this project isn’t a Marvel movie, there has been speculation that Reynolds and Jackman could return to the MCU for the upcoming Avengers movies. As Deadpool & Wolverine gave Marvel its biggest success in several years, I can’t imagine we’ve seen the last of them.

Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy are set to reunite for a mysterious new movie... that won't be a Deadpool and Wolverine sequel.

While chatting to Variety, Reynolds revealed that he is currently writing a new project for Levy to direct that he would once again co-star in with Jackman.

“I’m spending the year writing,” said the actor. “I’m writing a movie for myself, Hugh [Jackman] and Shawn [Levy] to do that is not Marvel.”

What it will be is unclear, as Reynolds declined to share any plot details. There's a chance it could turn out to be another comic book-style adventure, but the report notes that Reynolds' "enthusiasm hinted at something fresh and unexpected, which he will work on over the next 12 months."

This project would mark Reynolds’ fourth collaboration with Levy, who previously worked together on 2021’s Free Guy and Netflix's sci-fi adventure The Adam Project.

Well, at least Hideo Kojima agrees with Quentin Tarantino: “Joker: Folie à Deux” just might be considered the film of the year…in a decade or two.

The “Death Stranding” video game creator Kojima praised Todd Phillips’ critically panned box-office disaster sequel on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying that in the next 10 to 20 years, “Joker: Folie à Deux” could be considered a classic film.

“Over the next 10 or 20 years, this film’s reputation will likely change along with the permeation of hero movies to come. It may take some time for it to become a true ‘folie à deux,’” Kojima wrote. “But there is no doubt that everyone in the audience loved Joaquin and Gaga in this film.”

As you might expect, a lot of people dressed as Deadpool and Wolverine this Halloween, and Ryan Reynolds has now taken to social media to share some of his favourite costumes.

There are some really impressive outfits here, including a Deadpool-Wolverine amalgam, and a couple who decided to go as Cassandra Nova and Johnny Storm.

Speaking of the movie's villain and the unfortunate Human Torch, Reynolds also posted a script page from one of the funniest scenes in the R-rated threequel, as Wade Wilson repeats Storm's foul-mouthed rant to Nova. After a record-smashing run in theaters worldwide over the summer, Marvel Studios’ superhero flick Deadpool & Wolverine, teaming Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth and Hugh Jackman’s Adamantium-clawed Marvel mutant, has been set to begin streaming on Disney+ on November 12.

The Art of Deadpool and Wolverine book is now available, and Marvel Studios concept artist Andy Park has shared his scrapped design for yet another Logan variant that didn't make the final cut of the movie.

The Merc With a Mouth encounters several alternate reality version of Wolverine in one of the film's most memorable sequences, including Age of Apocalypse Wolvie, Patch, the Cavillrine (Man of Steel star Henry Cavill), and others. Now, Park has revealed that a take on the mutant hero from Uncanny X-Men #268 was also considered.

There's a good chance long-time X-Men fans will recognize this design, as the issue is significant for featuring a flashback to Logan's first ever meeting with Captain America.

Scott Glenn was so charmed by his “Eugene the Marine” co-star Jim Gaffigan that while filming a particularly wild fight scene, the 85-year-old modified a stunt so he didn’t accidentally kill the comedian.

“All that I was concerned with when we got to the end of this scene was making it physically as real as possible, but also as safe as possible,” Glenn says, during a Zoom conversation with Gaffigan for Variety. “For instance, I don’t know if Jim knows this, but at one point I put something called a ‘naked choke’ on him. Marvel's first ever R-rated film took in an additional $636.3 million, taking it just past Barbie's $636.238 million. Greta Gerwig’s smash-hit comedy remains queen of the global box office, however, with $1.445 billion.

On the list of highest-grossing Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, Deadpool and Wolverine comes in at 7, having recently overtaken Iron Man 3's ($1.215 billion) worldwide haul.

Marvel Studios hasn't officially announced a follow-up, but there are rumors that a direct sequel is in the early planning stages. Even if it doesn't come to pass, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will almost certainly return for Avengers: Secret Wars.

Deadpool & Wolverine has finally passed Barbie on the domestic box office chart. The R-rated movie served as Deadpool's introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he brought Wolverine with him. It ain’t cheap being a superhero, but it’s the suits where they really get you. According to Disney, the film has delivered the highest-selling first week ever for an R-rated film on domestic digital platforms. Disney didn’t release any numbers, but the previous record holder is believed to be John Wick: Chapter 4.

Deadpool & Wolverine remains in the top 10 at the weekly box office, having grossed $1.33 billion worldwide. This places the film just behind Inside Out 2, which has grossed $1.69 billion. Quite a haul for Disney.

Disney has also been setting up an awards push for Deadpool & Wolverine as they are submitting the film for consideration across all the major awards shows, including a potential Oscar for Hugh Jackman.

Kojima and company made an appearance at Tokyo Game Show 2024, bringing new info and footage for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, including a new Photo Shoot Event, character names and, by performing certain actions in the game, an in-game performance by Daichi Miura.

For starters, Kojima revealed some of the new characters for the sequel to the 2019 hit, with George Miller providing his likeness for Tarman (voiced by Mitsuru Miyamoto in Japanese), Dollman being portrayed by Fatih Akin (voiced by Tomokazu Sugita in Japanese), Elle Fanning‘s Tomorrow (voiced by Shion Wakayama in Japanese), and Rainy (portrayed and voiced by Shioli Kutsuna).

Not to be confused with a Photo Mode (which will be added to Death Stranding 2), the “Photo Shoot Event” allows the player to photograph the characters with an instant camera. Kojima suggested that while this may seem like a fun extra, it does have some influence on the story.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will officially be released sometime around next year exclusively for the PlayStation 5, and the gaming community has high expectations from a Hideo Kojima video game. The first game was released on the PlayStation 4 and pushed the limits of the hardware thanks to the advanced properties of the Decima engine that was graciously gifted by Guerrilla Games and the engine has evolved immensely since then.
