Jaafar Jackson, who will portray his late uncle Michael Jackson in the upcoming biopic “Michael,” has signed with CAA for representation.

Jaafar Jackson is the son of Jermaine Jackson and the nephew of the King of Pop. He makes his acting debut in the Antoine Fuqua-directed, Gk Films-produced movie, which is set for worldwide release on April 18, 2025. “Michael” is also produced by John Branca and John McClain, the co-executors of the Michael Jackson estate. Lionsgate is distributing the film in the U.S. and Japan, while Universal Pictures has rights for all offshore territories.

Lionsgate has acquired the rights to his story, and the upcoming film Michael is currently set for an April 18, 2025 release. The movie is a gamble due to Jackson being a controversial figure, but from what we can deduce, the executives at Lionsgate have a lot of confidence in the project.

Jim Packer, president of worldwide television distribution at Lionsgate, recently talked to the media and revealed his enthusiasm over the upcoming film, claiming that it will be Lionsgate’s biggest project of all time!

Packer told the media about his confidence in the movie, going as far as to claim that it is the studio’s biggest project ever.

“Definitely the most challenging thing I’ve had to do thus far as an actor, a lot of mental gymnastics involved,” Jharrel Jerome admits about the uniqueness of his role in the Boots Riley-created absurdist series I’m A Virgo, on which he plays a previously extremely sheltered 13-foot-tall Oakland teen. “At no point do I look my scene partners in the eye, and as an actor that’s so critical, you know, as connection.”

I guess when they've run out of recognizable IP, they've gotta center stories about recognizable faces instead. No shade to our boy Oppy, but it seems like a new film from Antoine Fuqua is coming for that title and the fact it's a movie about the most famous musical performer to ever live certainly gives the project a leg up on the father of the atomic bomb.

Not everyone is thrilled that there’s a biopic being made about pop sensation Michael Jackson. The director of “Leaving Neverland,” the HBO documentary that delves into accusations of Jackson’s alleged child abuse, last month accused director Antoine Fuqua’s film of being “a complete whitewash” and that it aims to “completely rewrite the allegations and dismiss them out of hand.”

However at CinemaCon on Wednesday, “Michael” producer Graham King took the stage to say that the new biopic, currently in production, “will get into all of it.”

Insecure star Kendrick Sampson is going to Dallas where SAG-AFTRA is set to hold a rally on Saturday. The visit is significant to Sampson in support of Texas actors navigating the strike under the leadership of Governor Greg Abbott, who he calls an “evil human being”.

SAG-AFTRA members will rally at 9am on Saturday in Dallas’ Reverchon Park.

Kendrick Sampson (“Something from Tiffany’s”) joined his fellow SAG-AFTRA members at the Netflix picket lines, but his participation wasn’t just to support the mission of picketing actors but to also show up marginalized communities and the narratives of Black people in Hollywood.

“We’re out here protesting not just for our extracurricular activities and some bougie pastime, we’re out here protesting for the future, for marginalized folks, Black folks,” Sampson said. “We’re out here protesting for the future of our narratives, the future of out stories, the health of our communities.”

GLAAD, the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, today announced that more than 250 LGBTQ and ally actors, notables, and other leaders signed a public letter created by GLAAD and the Human Rights Campaign (Hrc) calling on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and Twitter to better enforce hate speech, harassment, misinformation, and other existing content policies aimed at protecting transgender, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming users and all LGBTQ people.

The African American Film Critics Association will honor Jennifer Hudson, Delroy Lindo, Marla Gibbs, “Ted Lasso” and “S.W.A.T.” at the fifth annual Aafca TV Honors.

Hudson will receive the “We See You” Award, given to performers who demonstrate versatility in their work with consistent excellence in their craft. Delroy Lindo (“UnPrisoned”) will receive the “Legacy Award” presented to an artist or institution that inspires others to follow their path.

Marla Gibbs will receive the “Legend Ward” for changing the landscape of TV and Film.

The “Inclusion Award” will go to AppleTV+’s “Ted Lasso,” for its ability to “prioritize representation of people from all walks of life.” CBS’ “S.W.A.T.,” produced by Sony, will receive the “Impact Award” for its influential storylines and performances to the African American community.

After yesterday’s Imagine Dragons party outside Netflix, it was Paramount’s turn to pop.

Around 900 picketers flooded the streets near Melrose supporting the WGA West’s Committee of Black Writers.

These included stars such as Samira Wiley, Gabby Sidibe, Kendrick Sampson and Robin Thede.

Precious star Sidibe told Deadline, “I am striking with the writers because if they don’t work, I can’t work”, while Orange Is The New Black star Wiley said she was on the picket line to support her writer wife, Lauren Morelli. “My house is a two union household,” she added.

Thede, creator and star of HBO’s A Black Lady Sketch Show, warned the studios to “stop being cheap”. “I’m striking because paying writers a day rate is an abomination. We are still professionals and we deserve to be paid that way,” she added.

Hello Sunshine isn't Witherspoon's first foray into producing, though - she founded the production company Type A Films in 2000, which went on to produce hits like "Gone Girl" and "Wild." In 2016, she joined forces with Seth Rodsky, Sarah Harden, and Otter Media to launch Hello Sunshine into the stratosphere. The company, which is focused on elevating women's stories, produces movies, TV shows, and documentaries. The Sycamore District is one of L.A.’s chicest and buzziest mini-neighborhoods, known for its hot restaurants (Gigi’s, Mr. T), bakeries and cafés (Tartine, Sightglass), art galleries (Jeffrey Deitch), and beauty, fitness and wellness spots (Pause, Formula Fig and Heimat).

Now the area has caught the attention of Italian luxury powerhouse Giorgio Armani, which has opened a pop-up in Just One Eye, an independent fashion and design boutique located on Sycamore Avenue.

The shop-within-shop — titled Giorgio Armani for Just One Eye and running through Saturday, March 11 — features a selection of men’s and women’s ready-to-wear and accessories from the Spring-Summer 2023 collection, curated by Just One Eye founder Paola Russo. This new Giorgio Armani collection focuses on a long silhouette and is highlighted by jackets, skirts, trousers and duster coats fashioned to feel as weightless as possible, in colors from golden neutrals to ink blue purple and sand.

“The 1619 Project” creator Nikole Hannah-Jones needed just one word to describe what it was like to pose on the red-white-and-blue carpet with Oprah Winfrey.

“Insane!” Hannah-Jones told Variety as she made her way down the line of reporters outside the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles on Thursday night. “This was a lot, but it feels amazing.”

The journalist — a “print reporter” she likes to note, meaning she’s not quite used to the “lights, camera, action” style that TV news requires — cut a striking figure on the carpet, wearing an emerald green velvet gown which set off her signature red hair, plus her signature diamond necklace with “Nikole” written in cursive and custom gold “1619” hoop earrings.

In a crowded field of top movies on streaming, two slots went to holiday-inspired movies.

“Spirited” on Apple TV+ ranked seventh overall for the weekend. The Christmas musical, starring Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds, has been a holiday hit for Apple, with the film ranking among the 10 most-streamed movies each week since its release last month, per Whip Media’s viewership data, which is based on the responses of U.S. users of the TV Time app, its movie and TV show tracking app with more than 24 million global registered users.

Amazon Prime Video also got in on the holiday theme with “Something From Tiffany’s,” its new rom-com starring Zoey Deutch and Kendrick Sampson (“Insecure”), which take eighth place this week.

Producer of “Something From Tiffany’s” Lauren Neustadter credits costars Kendrick Sampson (“Insecure”) and Zoey Deutch, as well as casting director Ronna Kress, with transforming the story of the film, adapted from Melissa Hill’s book that came out over a decade ago.

“I read it when it was in galley [advanced, not finished format] and it’s a delightful book with an A+ movie premise. I immediately gravitated towards the premise of the book,” Neustadter told TheWrap in a recent interview. “I thought the characters were incredibly charming, but it wasn’t the kind of thing where there was a lot of specificity around the roles and the backgrounds of each of the characters. It was written in a bit of a different moment in time, and so we were imagining the script now, and we were imagining making the movie now. It was just something that I think we wanted to make sure that we were incredibly inclusive.

Twenty-eight-year-old actress Zoey Deutch was either born at the wrong time to star in romantic comedies, or at the perfect time to redeem them. If only it were both. If only people were still making rom-coms worthy of the light and lovability that Deutch — who previously flirted with the genre in Netflix’s “Set It Up,” between spikier roles in the likes of “Everybody Wants Some!!” and “Not Okay” — is more capable of bringing to them than just about anyone this side of Meg Ryan.

But they’re not, and nowhere is that more obvious than in like “Something from Tiffany’s,” which gives Deutch a chance to shine at full-wattage during a movie that can hardly muster the energy to power a string of Christmas lights. There’s nothing like New York City during Christmas: the packed streets of Soho and Midtown, the tourist-dense holiday market in Bryant Park, the unexpected bursts of snow.

There’s magic in the air, no doubt, but chaos too, as is evident in “Something From Tiffany’s,” a new streaming Christmas romantic comedy, a genre already rich in entries. A mix-up between two boyfriends at the iconic jewelry store Tiffany leads to a mix-up for the ages: one woman’s engagement ring winds up on the wrong hand.

At the helm of “Something From Tiffany’s” is ingenue du jour Zoey Deutch (“Not Okay”) as Rachel, a strong-willed, career-oriented baker who tolerates her longtime tattoo artist boyfriend Gary. He’s often disappointing her — showing up late or missing an obligation — forcing him to make up for his own incompetence with gifts and gestures of affection.
