The in-the-works series adaptation of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” from Amazon MGM Studios has tapped Veena Sud as showrunner, TheWrap has learned.

News of an Amazon adaptation of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” can be traced as far back as 2020. Amazon MGM Studios and Left Bank Pictures, which is part of Sony Pictures Television, will produce.

Based on the books by Stieg Larsson, the series’ logline states that the project will “take the iconic and much-loved character Lisbeth Salander and place her in today’s world — with a new setting, new characters and a new story that will resonate with fans of the original and thrill a whole new generation.”

Sud is best known for developing and executive producing “The Killing” for AMC. Based on the Danish series “Forbrydelsen” (translated as “The Crime”), the series followed homicide detectives Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) and Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman) as they investigated various murders.

The Woman in the Wall psychological crime thriller series created by Joe Murtagh. The BBC One series follows the story of Lorna, who wakes up to find a dead body in her house. She has a sleepwalking problem that stretches back to her days spent in Ireland’s controversial Magdalene Laundries. As the showrunner of Netflix’s Seven Seconds and The Killing, Sud is more than aware that she is in a minority when it comes to television showrunners. As a woman that is of Filipino and Indian heritage, she knows that there is still plenty of ground to break and obstacles to overcome.

The Killing co-stars Joel Kinnaman and Mireille Enos are reuniting to star in Hanna, Amazon’s upcoming series adaptation of the 2011 thriller, TVLine has learned. Like the film, Hanna centers on a teen girl who’s been raised to be an assassin. Kinnaman will play the girl’s father Erik, a battle-tested soldier who’s trained Hanna how to survive in the remote forests of Poland. Enos will play Marissa, an ambitious CIA agent who’s racing to track down Hanna.
