Gippy Grewal is an actor, singer, and producer who has established himself as one of the most successful Punjabi music and film industry artistes. He firstly worked with Pakistani singer and actor UmarJaum.
Grewal was born Rupinder Singh Grewal; however, he adopted the stage name "Gippy" because it was his childhood nickname. He completed his early education at Nankana Sahib Public School in Kot Gangu Rai, Ludhiana. He went on to earn a degree in Hotel Management from the North India Institute of Hotel Management in Panchkula. source
Grewal began his music career in 2002 with the album Chakk Ley featuring Jagdev Maan. He then went on to release several albums like Aaja Ve Mitran (2003), Phulkari 2 (2005), Chandi De Challe (2007), My Time To Shine (2008), Desi Rockstar (2010), The Main Man (2020), and Limited Edition (2021).
His song Yo Yo Honey Singh Feat. Gippy Grewal: Angreji Beat (2011) with UmarJaum was the biggest hit of his music career. The song was also featured in the Bollywood film Cocktail (2012) starring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone.
Grewal made his acting debut in the Punjabi film Mel Karade Rabba (2010) in 2010, a huge commercial success. Next, he played a lead role in Jihne Mera Dil Luteya (2011), a romantic comedy that was also a commercial hit.
In 2012, he starred in Mirza: The Untold Story (2012), directed by Baljit Singh Deo. He has since acted in several Punjabi films like Jatt James Bond (2014), Carry on Jatta (2012), Manje Bistre (2017), and Daaka (2019).
In 2015, Grewal made a guest appearance in the Hindi film Dharam Sankat Mein (2015). His first Hindi film in a leading role was a romantic comedy titled Second Hand Husband (2015), in which he starred with Tina Ahuja.
Grewal has won numerous awards for his work in the Punjabi film industry, including the PTC Punjabi Film Award for Best Actor for Jatt James Bond (2014) in 2015 and Carry On Jatta 2 (2018) in 2019. He also received the Brit Asia Award for Best Actor for Carry on Carry On Jatta 2 (2018) in 2019.
