New seasons of TikTok series The Formal and YouTube’s Australia’s Best Street Racer are among the six projects to share in more than $920,000 from Screen Australia’s Online Fund.

There is also Facebook/YouTube comedy Counter Girls, which is a spin-off of hit series Rostered On, TikTok vertical series Krystal Klairvoyant, as well as satire Clockwork and therapy exploration It’s Fine I’m Fine, both of which are for Facebook.

Screen Australia’s senior online investment manager Lee Naimo said it was pleasing to see online creators working hard to identify and then hook in their audiences with great characters and storylines.

“We can see great examples of this with new seasons of 2 Street 2 Racer and The Formal which both connected with viewers on YouTube and TikTok respectively,” he said.

Screen Australia has announced development funding for seven feature films and one high-end television project, plus production funding for three digital series and one Vr project..

Among the slate of features is The Wedding Officer, a WWII drama adapted by Andrew Knight (Hacksaw Ridge, Jack Irish) from a novel by Anthony Capella.

Jocelyn Moorhouse (The Dressmaker) is attached to direct with Revlover Films' Martha Coleman producing. The feature has secured matched funding from eOne, who produced Knight's The Water Diviner.

The film revolves around a young British officer sent to allied occupied Naples to clean up corruption and curb the run of British soldiers marrying Neapolitan girls. The locals decide to corrupt him the best way they know how: with food. .

Rockzeline, the Paris-based sales agent which reps the likes of The Wizards of Aus, Airlock and Wastelander Panda, has picked up two Aussie titles: multiplatform sci-fi thriller Restoration and web series Jade of Death.

Rockzeline has offices in Paris, Los Angeles, Montreal and Sydney, and specialises in digital short-form projects..

They also produce original content in Australia through their production subsidiary Deadrock, a partnership between Enzo Tedeschi.s Deadhouse Films and Rockzeline.

Directed by Stuart Willis and produced by Midnight Snack Productions, Restoration is set in a near-future world where humans have their memories downloaded for backup via a new and dangerous technology.

The one-hour film, which stars Craig McLachlan, premiered on Nine in August last year, and in New Zealand on Sky TV.s sci-fi channel The Zone in December. It also secured a berth on Stan, where it.s currently available to stream.

Body positive doco Nothing to Lose — The Documentary and web series Jade of Death are winners of this year.s Queer Screen.s Completion Fund.

The fund was established to provide independent Lgbtiq filmmakers with support to tell stories that reflect the diversity of their lives. To have been eligible, projects must have already completed principal photography and now be in post-production.

Nothing to Lose — The Documentary, was awarded $8000 to help bring it to screens after four years in post. The doco charts the creation of Force Majuere and Kelli Jean Drinkwater's 'Nothing to Lose' dance theatre show, which aimed to challenge stereotypes by featuring performers with large bodies. Drinkwater also directed the doc, produced by Jain Moralee and Ciny Rodriguez. .

The Breath of Fresh Air Film Festival has announced the finalists for their Digital Slr Short Film Competition

The festival is currently on in Launceston, Tasmania. Winners of the competition will be announced at the Bofa Awards Dinner.

The films have been selected for reflecting the festival’s contemporary issues and this year’s themes of “new horizons” or “food for thought.”

Having recently graduated from the inaugural Aftrs Foundation Diploma class of 2009, 25-year-old director, Erin Good, and 20-year-old producer, Taylor Litton-Strain, have made an exciting start to their filmmaking careers. Their charming short film Abbie has just been picked up by Qantas.   The airline acquired the film to screen nationally to domestic passengers after a Qantas employee happened to attend a cast and crew screening of the film and recommended it for acquisition.   "The screening was intended as a reward for everyone who worked on the film, as well as supporters," Litton-Strain explains. "One of our guests happened to be an employee from Qantas.
