Zendaya and Anne Hathaway are joining Christopher Nolan’s next film at Universal, alongside previously announced cast members Tom Holland and Matt Damon.
Nolan is writing and directing the movie, which is set for a theatrical and Imax release on July 17, 2026. Plot details are currently under wraps. Universal had no comment on the casting.
It’s a reunion for Hathaway and Nolan, who previously collaborated on the 2014 space epic “Interstellar” and 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” Earlier this year, Hathaway expressed gratitude for Nolan, who cast her in “Interstellar” amidst a wave of online hate following her Oscar win for “Les Misérables.” “A lot of people wouldn’t give me roles because they were so concerned about how toxic my identity had become online,” Hathaway told Vanity Fair. “I had an angel in Christopher Nolan, who did not care about that and gave me one of the most beautiful roles...

The new series “Penelope,” premiering Tuesday on Netflix, opens with a 16-year-old girl dancing at an outdoor silent disco. Feeling out of place, she tries to push past the awkwardness of dancing in a room with her summer camp peers. But Penelope’s attentions always drift to the surrounding wilderness.
It’s a quieter start than the typical show premiering on the streaming home of the black comedy-thriller “Baby Reindeer,” but its impact lingers. And creators Mark Duplass and Mel Eslyn hope their thought-provoking teen drama can show the industry that middle-budget television still has a place in an IP-ridden ecosystem — even if creators have to first fund the projects on their own.

Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror is back for season 7 and the cast – Paul Giamatti! Rashida Jones! – has been confirmed.
As we’re not far off time of year where we rewatch our festive favourites, special mention has to go to White Christmas., the Black Mirror episode which must surely be a contender for the most upsetting Christmas special in history, featuring as it does the concept of blocking people in real life and a final scene with a concept too horrifying to imagine.
Beginning as a drama on Channel 4 in 2010 before moving to Netflix from series 3 in 2016, so far six series worth of twisted tales have come from the unrelentingly dark imagination of Charlie Brooker. From AI to memory chips, futuristic societies to an interactive special, Brooker’s pen has thus far always been prescient, predicting many developments in technology that have actually come true.
The seventh season is now in production for Netflix.

When Billy Crudup took to the Emmy stage to accept his second Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series win for the role of Cory Ellison in Apple TV+ series The Morning Show, his first thought was for his wife — and fellow nominee — Naomi Watts.
“I’m happy to be here with my piece of eye candy there, my wife,” he said after an initial thank you. He also noted, in a seemingly political aside, that “she happens to be an immigrant,” and went on to champion her for her “searing performance this year for which she’s nominated,” referring to her lead role of Babe Paley in anthology series Feud: Capote vs. the Swans.
In The Morning Show, Crudup’s role of network president Cory, for which he has been nominated three times, has involved everything from singing showtunes in Season 1, to unrequited love, Machiavellian meltdowns, and heartbreaking vulnerability...

Seven years after coming up short on their respective first and second Best TV Movie/Limited Series Directing Emmy bids against Jean-Marc Vallée (“Big Little Lies”), Steven Zaillian and Noah Hawley are involved in a rematch as helmers of the non-continuing programs “Ripley” and “Fargo.” Despite the quality of their new work and their strong Emmys resumes, they are widely expected to once again be bested by a complete first-timer: Weronika Tofilska (“Baby Reindeer”).
Tofilska is joined in this directing lineup’s category newcomer majority by Issa López (“True Detective”), Millicent Shelton (“Lessons in Chemistry”), and Gus Van Sant (“Feud”). Counting Zaillian and Hawley, Shelton is the only one in the bunch who has ever earned TV academy recognition for directing a non-limited series, as her very first bid came for “30 Rock” in 2009.

At this point in his career, “Black Mirror” creator Charlie Brooker has a perfect Emmys record, having succeeded on all three producing and two writing nominations he has received for the Netflix series. Soon, however, he could be blocked from going six-for-six by general first-timer Richard Gadd, who is predicted to trounce him in the 2024 race for Best TV Movie/Limited Series Writing.
Along with Ron Nyswaner (“Fellow Travelers”) and Issa López (“True Detective”), Gadd is one of three category newcomers involved in this writing contest. Aside from sole past winner Brooker, the remaining veterans are Noah Hawley (“Fargo”) and Steven Zaillian (“Ripley”), both of whom the “Black Mirror” writer defeated in 2017.
In order to determine whether Gadd truly has this race sewn up, let’s take a closer look at each nominee. Be sure to make your predictions in this and 24 other Primetime Emmy categories by September 15.

What “Shōgun” accomplished Sunday at the Creative Arts Awards was unprecedented, grabbing 14 prizes (including 13 craft honors) and sweeping every category except the main title theme and original score by Atticus Ross, Leopold Ross, and Nick Chuba.

The second night of the Creative Arts Emmys commenced Sunday night. The FX series Shōgun would prove to be the awards darling of the night by taking home an incredible number of awards for categories that include Guest Actor, Costumes, Makeup, Hairstyling, Stunts, Production Design, Visual Effects and more. The historical drama snagged a total of 14 Emmys over the course of both nights and leads in wins.
Another popular FX series, The Bear, would have its own run of wins as the intense cooking show took home statues for casting, picture editing, sound mixing and guest stars Jon Bernthal, as well as Jamie Lee Curtis, who also served as the opening emcee for the ceremony, which was held at the Peacock Theater. The Bear has not been able to catch up to Shōgun, but the show has, so far, collected seven wins, which is just one more than the leader for Night 1, Saturday Night Live.

Defying the odds at Sunday’s Creative Arts Emmys, Michaela Coel (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”) ended up winning the Best Drama Guest Actress race for the Prime Video spy thriller. Many awards pundits thought that Claire Foy (“The Crown”) might prevail, especially considering she had already won this same guest actress category in 2021 as well as the lead actress race in 2018. For this 2024 contest, the two nominees faced off against Marcia Gay Harden (“The Morning Show”), Sarah Paulson (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”) and Parker Posey (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”).
Coel submitted the episode “Infidelity” in which she plays Bev, a secret spy who tries to infiltrate the marriage between John (Donald Glover) and Jane (Maya Erskine). This marks Coel’s second career Emmy victory after previously prevailing for writing her HBO limited series “I May Destroy You” (2021).

“Shōgun” dominated the second and final night of the 76th Creative Arts Emmys on Sunday, taking home the most awards with 14 and putting itself in prime position for the main ceremony on Sept. 15. The celebration began early for the FX drama when it collected the evening’s first award, Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, for Nestor Carbonell’s performance in the episode “Anjin.”
It proved to be a busy night for “Shōgun.” The period drama picked up accolades for its below-the-line achievements in casting, costumes, makeup, hairstyling, stunts, production design, editing, visual effects, sound editing, sound mixing, main title design and cinematography. “Shōgun” nearly pulled off a perfect run at the Creative Arts Emmys, winning 14 out of the 16 categories it was nominated in. FX’s “Shōgun” dominated the Creative Arts Emmys on Sunday, taking home 14 trophies during the second half of the two-part ceremony held at the Peacock Theatre in downtown L.A.
FX’s costume drama entered the weekend leading in overall nominations with a tally of 25 Emmy nominations this year.
Overall, FX dominated the weekend with 27 wins, followed by Netflix with 18 wins. HBO and Max together collected a total of eight Emmy awards. Hulu, Disney+, Apple TV+ and NBC won seven Emmys apiece.
FX’s haul was paced by “Shōgun,” a big-bet effort that is set in feudal Japan. The series claimed the win in virtually every Creative Arts category in which it was nominated. This included guest actor in a drama for Nestor Carbonell as well as nods for casting, cinematography, costumes, hairstyling, makeup (non prosthetic), prosthetic makeup, main title design, picture editing, production design, sound editing, sound mixing, stunt performance and visual effects.

In 2021, “The Crown” performer Claire Foy made Emmys history as the first winner of lead and guest acting trophies for a single role. With that monumental achievement on her resume, she naturally appears unstoppable as she seeks the 2024 Best Drama Guest Actress prize for her work on the farewell season of the same series.
Foy would follow Patricia Clarkson (“Six Feet Under”) and Margo Martindale (“The Americans”) as the third woman to win two guest Emmys for one drama program and would be the only two-time guest victor overall with a regular win for the same show. Those hoping to give her a run for her money are veteran contender Marcia Gay Harden (“The Morning Show”) and category newcomers Michaela Coel, Sarah Paulson, and Parker Posey, all three of whom represent “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”

With Deadpool & Wolverine now released, the MCU is gearing up for the upcoming Agatha All Along. This series will continue the story from WandaVision, forming part of a trilogy that includes the MCU’s Vision project. In Agatha All Along, Agatha Harkness escapes her imprisonment and seeks to reclaim her powers by traversing the Witches’ Road.
Based on what we’ve seen so far, Joe Locke’s character, Billy Kaplan, will play a crucial role in this storyline. He is expected to be significant in the MCU, both as a key figure in Agatha’s quest and due to his potential connection to the Scarlet Witch.
Joe Locke’s role is significant not only for the storyline but also for LGBTQ+ representation in the MCU, as Kaplan will join the ranks of other queer characters. Locke stands out as one of the few openly Lgbtqia+ actors playing a queer role in the MCU,...

Now that the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is behind us, MCU is continuing full steam ahead with the upcoming release of ‘Agatha All Along.’ The show is set to be continuation of ‘WandaVision,’ a part of the trilogy along with MCU’s ‘Vision’ project, and will see Agatha Harkness escaping her imprisonment and reclaiming her powers by walking the Witches’ Road.
Judging by everything we’ve seen so far Joe Locke’s character, Billy Kaplan will be instrumental in this task. He is set to be an important character in the MCU, partially due to being the driver behind Agatha’s quest and partially due to his potential connection to the Scarlet Witch.
However, Joe Locke’s character is important for one more reason, in terms of LGBTQ+ representation in the MCU, as Kaplan is bound to join the ranks of other Queer characters.

David Lowery is no stranger to taking big swings with his films. Even when he’s done more four-quadrant features, such as “Pete’s Dragon” and “Peter Pan & Wendy,” Lowery has taken risks. But it sounds as if his next film, “Mother Mary,” might be his biggest swing to date.
Speaking on the Last Video Store podcast, before jumping into the format of the pod, David Lowery was asked about “Mother Mary.” And according to the filmmaker, it’s a “weird, weird movie” and he’s not actually sure how it’s all going to turn out.

David Lowery, he filmmaker behind such ambient tone pieces as The Green Knight and A Ghost Story, doesn’t seem to know what the upcoming Mother Mary is… apart from being a “weird, weird film”.
As well as making franchise staples such as Pete’s Dragon and Peter Pan and Wendy, David Lowery loves to make arthouse films that are as much about texture and tone as they are anything else. A Ghost Story and The Green Knight spring to mind, weirdly compelling cinematic meditations on what it is to be human, perhaps.
We say ‘perhaps’ because we don’t really know and when it comes to Lowery’s latest offering in his trademark style, it seems that he doesn’t really know either. Over the weekend, director David Lowery teased the audience at the Melbourne International Film Festival with details about his much-anticipated film “Mother Mary.” The film, whose fourteen-month, multi-location production wrapped in Germany in July, explores the relationship between Anne Hathaway as a fictional pop star and Michaela Coel, the Emmy and BAFTA-winning star of “I Will Destroy You,” who plays a fashion designer engaged to design a dress for the star. Also starring are F.K.A. Twigs, Hunter Schafer, and Alba Baptista, with original music from Jack Antonoff and Charli Xcx.
Days after production closed, Hathaway described making “Mother Mary” as “one of the most extraordinary, transformative experiences I have ever had.” When asked about the feature, his eighth, Lowery sighed deeply and hesitantly described it as “a weird, weird film.”

While most of the prediction thought and energy when forecasting the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards goes to the big-ticket honors for comedy, drama and limited series, there are no fewer than 99 additional categories for which statuettes will be handed out at the Creative Arts Emmys on September 7 and 8 at the Peacock Theater at L.A. A seventh season of the anthology series Black Mirror will be making its way to the Netflix streaming service sometime in 2025 – and while episodes of the show have branched out into different genres as it has gone along, during an interview with Deadline, series creator Charlie Brooker said that the episodes of Black Mirror season 7 will be like the “Og Black Mirror.”
Brooker said, “We’re doing some things we’ve not done before. People can expect quite a lot of emotion and, hopefully, a good mix of chills. We did a couple of horror stories in Season 6, which we label as Red Mirror. But this time around, the episodes are all, in a way, like Og Black Mirror. I wrote one script, and the general consensus was that it was one of the bleakest, heaviest gut punches yet. There’s also techy episodes and ones that are making people cry.

James Graham, the creator of Sherwood, Dear England and Brexit: The Uncivil War, has urged the creation of “new universes” and greater risk taking in place of TV’s gatekeepers “falling back on tried and tested IP.”
Delivering this year’s Edinburgh TV Festival MacTaggart lecture, the prolific British scribe argued passionately for greater working class representation in the TV industry, along with criticizing commissioners’ ongoing temptation to opt for “source material, adaptations and expanded universes.”
Graham used the annual Edinburgh platform to plead for “new universes, which means – taking risks.”
He added: “New stories have to be at the heart of commissioning – scripted, non-scripted, factual, fictional … even in the most difficult climate, where the temptation, and we’re witnessing it, is to fall back on tried and tested IP.”
The industry should see “risk” as a long-term “vital” investment in the future health of the sector, Graham said, coming...
