Last season, The Resident's renewal came down to the wire. The ratings are middle-of-the-road, and Fox no longer owns the series (since the studio was sold to Disney). As a result, the network doesn't make as much profit from the show and is shifting toward only airing shows they produce. Will The Resident be cancelled or renewed for season seven? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.

In The Resident Season 6, before Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) and Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas) got together, both had other love interests: Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne) and Dr. James Yamada (Ian Anthony Dale). But don’t feel too bad for them. After all, not only did James and Cade find something between them that is fun (and works!), but if the Fox medical drama is renewed for Season 7 — executive producer Andrew Chapman told TV Insider in January they didn’t expect to know until April or May — the hope is we see more of James. Dale looks back on joining the show in Season 6 and ahead to his hopes if it continues. You were a fantastic addition to the cast this season on The Resident and I hope there’s more and that we see more of you. Ian Anthony Dale: I had such a great time on that show.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Resident Season 6 Episode 12, “All the Wiser.”] “You can’t be serious,” Dr. Kit Voss (Jane Leeves) says upon seeing the report that Governor Betez’s (Steven Culp) helicopter crashed blocks from Chastain. But as a result, The Resident‘s penultimate episode features a solution that may keep the hospital up and running — if the doctors are willing to make a deal with the devil. Also in the hour, Ian (Andrew McCarthy) returns from rehab — [insert lie here] as he continues to keep it a secret from everyone except his daughter, Cade (Kaley Ronayne) — and Bell (Bruce Greenwood) gets some good news about his medical future, thanks to Devon (Manish Dayal). Plus, did The Resident just go from Conrad (Matt Czuchry) and Cade and Billie (Jessica Lucas) and James (Ian Anthony Dale) to Conrad and Billie and Cade and James successfully in one episode? Maybe. A Deal They’ll Probably Regret Following the...

Governor Mark Betz (Steven Culp) is probably going to wish he’d been a lot nicer to Dr. Kit Voss (Jane Leeves), Dr. Randolph Bell (Bruce Greenwood), and Chastain in the penultimate episode of The Resident Season 6. As you can see in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of January 10’s “All the Wiser,” he ends up a patient in the ER. Devon (Manish Dayal) and Feldman (Tasso Feldman) are the first doctors to start meeting the patients of a helicopter crash. Cade (Kaley Ronayne) and James (Ian Anthony Dale), then Conrad (Matt Czuchry) and Billie (Jessica Lucas) arrive to help — they’ll need everyone — but Feldman has one of the best lines of the season when he remarks, “it’s like musical chairs around here.” After all, until the previous episode, Conrad, Cade, Billie, and James were together. Conrad and Devon meet the next ambulance, carrying the pilot, and...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Resident Season 6 Episode 11 “All In.”] If we had to describe where The Resident goes with Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) and Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas) after that fall finale kiss, it would have to be “inevitable.” But don’t feel too bad for Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne), who does find out what happened between her (ex-)boyfriend and his late wife’s best friend — she might not be alone for long. Upon returning from visiting her father, Dr. Ian Sullivan (Andrew McCarthy) in rehab, Cade admits she lied about where she was to Conrad. To her surprise, he’s not upset, just focused on what means for her and her dad. But that’s also because he has his own confession to make: “I haven’t been honest with myself or you, about my feelings for Billie.” She asks if something happened. “I kissed her,” he says.

After that fall finale, it looks like The Resident has reached a turn in two doctors’ lives that has been pretty much inevitable since a love triangle was introduced in Season 5. Following Nic Nevin’s (Emily VanCamp) death, the Fox drama jumped forward a few years, and by the end of Season 5, it had set up a new love triangle for her husband, Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry). There was Nic’s best friend, Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas), to whom he had become close as well, and new doc Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne), with whom he’d been working side-by-side in and (with the Go Team) out of the hospital. When Season 6 began, we learned he’d chosen Cade, though he also didn’t know that Billie was even an option at that point. But for every time we saw Conrad and Cade as a couple (and for all...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Resident Season 6 Episode 10 “Family Day.”] There were more lows than highs in The Resident fall finale, which left us quite worried about a few characters. To recap, starting with the most harrowing: Billie (Jessica Lucas) is attacked by a patients’ sons after she dies following complications of a very risky surgery, but Conrad (Matt Czuchry) saves her. Padma (Aneesha Joshi) ends the episode standing on the edge of a bridge. Cade (Kaley Ronayne) isn’t sure whether to believe her father Ian (Andrew McCarthy) that he’ll make up to her what he’s done because of his addiction. And when Conrad brings Billie home at the end of the day, they kiss! Showrunner Andrew Chapman breaks down that ending and teases what’s ahead. Of course we have to start with that kiss. How did you decide when that would happen and how? Andrew Chapman: That is a complicated question.

Uh-oh, lying almost always leads to trouble in a relationship (especially one in a TV drama), which is why we’re worried about The Resident‘s Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) and Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne) after watching TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the December 6 fall finale. “Miss me already?” Cade asks when Conrad calls. “You know I do,” he answers, asking about her drive to the vineyard. It’s good, and she just got there, she details. When he asks about the agenda for the long-awaited girls’ trip, she tells him they’re doing “wine tasting today, all-day spa reservation tomorrow.” Conrad’s happy to hear that, noting, “I’m glad you’re getting away. You work hard. You deserve a break.” But when they hang up, we see she’s not being truthful. Watch the clip above to find out what Cade is really doing.

Making enemies with the new governor (Steven Culp) is proving to be a major problem for Dr. Randolph Bell (Bruce Greenwood) on The Resident. Betz has enlisted a spy at Chastain and is digging up dirt on Bell (specifically looking for possible lawsuits), and now, in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek, the surgeon is served court papers from a former patient while receiving the Lifetime of Service Award for how much he’s meant to the hospital! In the November 15 episode, Bell is honored as “someone who has done more for Chastain than perhaps any other one person. That includes Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry), with Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne), Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas), and her new love interest Dr. James Yamada (Ian Anthony Dale), who seems to be having a good time.

In addition to showing the realities of the supplies and healthcare workers it takes to treat “One Bullet” in the latest episode of The Resident, the Fox drama continued its ongoing storyline about doctors and addiction. After Cade (Kaley Ronayne) shared her concerns about her father Ian (Andrew McCarthy), Conrad (Matt Czuchry) went to Kit (Jane Leeves) about testing the staff, without naming names. Ian succeeded in tricking the test, though Cade was suspicious and Kit told him he had to take it again before operating again. And this did cause a strain in Cade’s relationship with Conrad. Showrunner Andrew Chapman, who wrote “One Bullet,” teases what’s next with Ian’s addiction as well as Conrad’s relationships with Cade and Billie (Jessica Lucas) and previews Kit and Bell’s (Bruce Greenwood) upcoming wedding. Ian’s addiction is beginning to spiral out of control, even though ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Resident Season 6 Episode 3 “One Bullet.”] As the latest episode of The Resident shows, one bullet can cost a hospital — supplies, healthcare workers, and the other patients. Conrad (Matt Czuchry) and Cade (Kaley Ronayne), while out on another call, find a gunshot victim. The nearest hospital won’t take him, and so they have to go to Chastain. Once there, this patient uses up nearly all the hospital’s blood and is treated by 100 healthcare workers. And what’s worse: Padma (Aneesha Joshi) is there for her C-section, which gets pushed (due to necessary changes in the ORs’ schedule), until it becomes an emergency situation. Padma’s twin, Leela (Anuja Joshi), ends up saving her life. And just as Conrad and Nurse Hundley (Denitra Isler) are heading out at the end of the episode, another gunshot victim comes in, for it to start all over. Showrunner Andrew Chapman, who wrote the episode,...

In a powerful episode, The Resident shows the impact one bullet has, and TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek offers a look at the “mess,” as Dr. Kit Voss (Jane Leeves) calls it. When Kit overhears Dr. Feldman (Tasso Feldman) on the phone trying to get an operating room, she sends him to Or 1 and takes over scheduling. “Cancel anything in Or 1 and move non-elective surgeries to 2 and 3. And call the chief of surgery, Dr. Sutton, about rescheduling anything non-emergent,” she orders. Then Kit finds Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) to ask him what happened, since she thought he was on an amputation call. They were, he explains, but after they finished, they heard gunshots and found the victim. They brought him to Chastain in Dr. Cade Sullivan’s (Kaley Ronayne) car. When Kit asks why they didn’t take him to Yates, which was closer, Conrad explains they tried.

Plus, Padma (Aneesha Joshi) worries about her twins and what happens after she gives birth. Second Guessing? While Conrad and Cade may be together (what could be his first serious relationship after losing Nic), Billie is asking about his daughter Gigi and her nightmares, as well as him dealing with parenting alone. Considering Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne) is in the middle of a love triangle and her father, Dr. Ian Sullivan (Andrew McCarthy), isn’t going anywhere, it’s no surprise that she’s sticking around.
