In The Resident Season 6, before Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) and Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas) got together, both had other love interests: Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne) and Dr. James Yamada (Ian Anthony Dale). But don’t feel too bad for them. After all, not only did James and Cade find something between them that is fun (and works!), but if the Fox medical drama is renewed for Season 7 — executive producer Andrew Chapman told TV Insider in January they didn’t expect to know until April or May — the hope is we see more of James. Dale looks back on joining the show in Season 6 and ahead to his hopes if it continues. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Resident Season 6 Episode 11 “All In.”] If we had to describe where The Resident goes with Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) and Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas) after that fall finale kiss, it would have to be “inevitable.” But don’t feel too bad for Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne), who does find out what happened between her (ex-)boyfriend and his late wife’s best friend — she might not be alone for long. Upon returning from visiting her father, Dr. Ian Sullivan (Andrew McCarthy) in rehab, Cade admits she lied about where she was to Conrad. To her surprise, he’s not upset, just focused on what means for her and her dad. “Family Day” Plot: Conrad comes face to face with Nic’s dad, Kyle, after five years of no contact when he comes into Chastain with an extremely low heart rate. Billie advises her patient against surgery, but the patient’s family ignores her recommendation. Meanwhile, Cade musters up the courage to confront Ian about his addiction and Leela grows concerned about Padma.

Making enemies with the new governor (Steven Culp) is proving to be a major problem for Dr. Randolph Bell (Bruce Greenwood) on The Resident. Jaime Pressly is roughing it on network TV again: The My Name Is Earl alum has joined the cast of Fox’s Welcome to Flatch ahead of its upcoming Season 2, our sister site Variety reports.

Exclusive: Gravitas Ventures has acquired North American right to Genevieve Adams’ dramedy Simchas and Sorrows, along with worldwide rights to Peter Curtis Pardini’s doc The Last Band on Stage, and North American rights to Jaclyn Bethany’s queer thriller, The Falling World. The Anthem Sports & Entertainment Company will release the former title at the Laemmle Noho in Los Angeles on September 16, and on all major digital and VOD platforms on the 20th. Pardini’s film will hit VOD and theaters in three cities on September 30, with Bethany’s indie unspooling on VOD on October 18.

Simchas and Sorrows tells the story of Agnes (Adams), an atheist actress who attempts to convert to Judaism to marry the love of her life, Levi (Thomas McDonnell). Adams directed the pic from her script, with Hari Nef, Luke Forbes, Julie Haltson, Greg Bello, Annelise Cepero, Billy Calder, Lucy Morris, Chip Zien and John Cullum rounding out the cast.

In the latest TV ratings, Fox’s coverage of the MLB All-Star game averaged 6.2 million total viewers (and a 1.2 demo rating), per fast affiliate numbers, down just nine percent in audience from the early tally for last year’s contest, which wound up reporting a final audience of 8.3 million.

The battle between Al and Nl nonetheless led Tuesday in both measures.

Fox’s The Resident is upping Kaley Ronayne to series regular for Season 6.

The news follows Deadline’s exclusive announcement that Andrew McCarthy was promoted to series regular on the medical drama. McCarthy plays Dr. Ian Sullivan, father of Ronayne’s character Dr. Cade Sullivan.

Cade is a double board-certified ICU and ER doctor whose love life this season will take compelling and unexpected turns. Her father, Dr. Ian Sullivan now a top physician at Chastain, is struggling with a dark secret. Her attachment to him, and the fight to save him, will upend her life.

Cade is one of two women the series is positioning as a possible new romantic interest for Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry), who lost his beloved wife Nic Nevin (Emily VanCamp) in Season 5.
