Sarmad Sultan Khoosat, director of “Zindagi Tamasha” (“Circus of Life”), has weathered an annus horribilis and is now gearing up for his film’s 2021 Oscars campaign.

It has been a dramatic 12 months for Khoosat. On Jan. 21, 2020, he was on top of the world. The film had had its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival in 2019, where it won the prestigious Kim Ji-seok award, and it had since cleared Pakistan’s various censor boards, ready for a Jan. 24 local release. On Jan. 21 however, the federal government of Pakistan sent word that the release had to be postponed and the film must be sent for review to the Council of Islamic Ideology.

Pakistani actor/director Sarmad Sultan Khoosat’s next film will be “Kamli.” Principal photography commences this week at locations across Pakistan. Pakistani superstar Saba Qamar (“Hindi Medium”), Sania Saeed (“Manto”) and Hamza Khwaja, star.

“A tragic love story at heart, the film is going to be a fresh mix of a rustic setting captured in a contemporary, universal sensibility,” Khoosat told Variety. “Unlike other films of the genre, ‘Kamli’ is not only going to depict the vibrancy and humour of rural Punjab, but also its poetic lyricism and love-lore in an international film aesthetic.”

A tentative release is set for Summer, 2020. Khoosat Films is producing.

Khoosat’s “Circus of Life” (“Zindagi Tamasha”) had its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival where it is also nominated for the prestigious Kim Ji-seok award.

Actor Irrfan Khan, who had taken a break after his neuroendocrine tumour diagnosis last year, is back on sets. He started shooting for "Angrezi Medium" on Friday here. The buzz about Irrfan shooting for the film, which is a sequel to his 2017 movie "Hindi Medium", had started earlier this week when he was spotted at the Mumbai airport. On Friday, producer Dinesh Vijan released a photograph that confirmed Irrfan's return to work.

The image has Vijan, director Homi Adajania, actor Deepak Dobriyal, cinematographer Anil Mehta and Irrfan posing together.

In March 2018, Irrfan had announced his diagnosis and said that he was going abroad for treatment. He returned to India in February this year.

"Hindi Medium", one of the top grossers of 2017, revolved around a well-off Chandni Chowk couple in Delhi (played by Irrfan and actress Saba Qamar) who aspired to break into the elite society and give their daughter the best education possible.

Actor Irrfan Khan, who was undergoing treatment for neuroendocrine tumour in London, is back in the country.

His arrival in the country has already led to speculation with some claiming that he will start shooting the sequel to Hindi Medium from February 22 and some stating that he is being treated at a hospital here.?

A source close to the actor confirmed that the globally renowned star is back, but dismissed all other claims.

"Irrfan is back in Mumbai. But people are publishing all sorts of stories without any confirmation. They are not true," the source said.?

"I will get an update on his health and when will he be resuming work when I meet the actor soon," the source added.?

Back in March last year, Irrfan had revealed that he has been diagnosed with a rare tumour. Soon after, he went to London for treatment.?
