Surprising to some, Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have some commonalities. After all, the half-shell heroes were initially created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird as a parody of Frank Miller’s work on Daredevil, before coming to DC and turning his talents to The Dark Knight. Both properties work best in the shadows and had the producers of this animated adventure leaned into that, this could have been a cut above an obvious cash grab.
The participants have met before, in three miniseries from DC Comics and Idw in addition to one strictly set in their “Adventures” incarnations, aimed more at all-ages readers. Now, we have Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a briskly paced story. It’s not bad, but boy, it could have been so much more had anyone made an effort.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released a new clip from DC’s upcoming animated film Batman Vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The clip happens to be the opening scene of the movie and it focuses on the Ninja Turtles as they descend on Gotham City. As you might imagine, Batman is not happy upon hearing about these “lizard men” from Batgirl.
This clip features the Foot Clan descending “upon Powers Industrial, where Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl (voiced by Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's producer/star Rachel Bloom) is getting a first-hand look at an extremely powerful generator.”
Here’s the synopsis for the film:
It’ll take the unlikely unification of the Dark Knight and the Heroes in a Half-shell to overcome the combined villainous forces afoot in Gotham City in the all-new, feature-length animated thriller.

If you were to ask me, 2019 is shaping up to be one heck of a year for DC animation. Already, we’ve been impressed by Reign of the Supermen and Justice League vs. The Fatal Five, with the long awaited Batman: Hush adaptation also set to arrive sometime this summer. Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, meanwhile, is scheduled for release in the fall, but I wouldn’t doubt if that gets pushed to 2020 so that it can coincide with Wonder Woman 1984‘s theatrical debut.
Much to my delight, a fifth offering was worked into the middle of that slate, as Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been confirmed for a late spring release. Not only is this making a fantasy many of us have been pondering since childhood a reality, but it should also satisfy fans of the comic book crossover which served as inspiration.

After we were all treated to one kick-ass trailer for Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles a few days ago, I’d suspected that we’d learn much more about the monumental mashup’s home video release before the week was over. As it turned out, I was proven correct.

Will the promise of two new original series next year — based on decades-old toon franchises — help convince people to pay $5 per month for Boomerang’s subscription-video service?
That’s the question Boomerang, the cartoon subscription-streaming service from Turner and Warner Bros., is raising as the one-year-old venture tries to bulk up its direct-to-consumer rolls.
In 2019, Boomerang plans to premiere two new originals: “Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?,” in which the gang teams up with guest stars to solve mysteries, and “Flintstones” spinoff “Yabba-Dabba Dinosaurs!” Both series are being produced by Warner Bros. Animation.
Boomerang also has renewed several existing shows, including “The Tom and Jerry Show” and “Bunnicula,” and has licensed U.S. rights to a British adaptation of “The Wind in the Willows.” In addition, it’s beefing up its product features, adding a fully translated Spanish-language version and support for Android TV devices over Memorial Day weekend.

The ThunderCats are coming back. Cartoon Network has greenlighted ThunderCats Roar, an all-new series from Warner Bros Animation that’s set to premiere next year. Production is underway.
The logline: Staying true to the premise of the original series: Lion-o and the ThunderCats — Tygra, Panthro, Cheetara, Wilykat and Wilykit — barely escape the sudden destruction of their home world, Thundera, only to crash land on the mysterious and exotic planet of Third Earth. Lion-o, the newly appointed Lord of the ThunderCats, attempts to lead the team as they make this planet their new home. A bizarre host of creatures and villains stand in their way, including the evil Mumm-Ra, Third Earth’s wicked ruler who will let nothing, including the ThunderCats, stop his tyrannical reign over the planet.
Check out an announcement video, including behind-the-scenes footage with the production staff, above.
