Bohurupi Box Office Collection Day 20: Crosses A Significant Mark ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
Bohurupi by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee has overperformed at the box office in West Bengal and across the nation. It has crossed an amazing feat, and with no big Bengali releases in the upcoming weeks, this action thriller is expected to soar. The film features the ever charming and talented Abir Chatterjee in the lead role with an amazing star cast in the supporting roles.
It was released during Durga Puja and clashed with Srijit Mukherji’s film Tekka, which was also a thriller. Although festive releases tend to do well at the box office, this film under the Windows banner is doing better than the rest. According to reports, it was made on a budget of 4 crore and has earned 176% more than that at the box office.

Sherlock Holmes has been adapted in so many ways that there’s no point in partaking in any kind of pearl clutching activities anymore. Of course, the adaptations featuring Basil Rathbone, Peter Cushing, Jeremy Brett, Michael Caine, Robert Downey Jr., Ian McKellen, Benedict Cumberbatch, and even Jonny Lee Miller will be celebrated by fans of Arthur Conan Doyle’s work. But they also have to deal with the likes of Holmes & Watson, Enola Holmes, Sherlock Gnomes, and Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd century. And you’d think that after a show with a female Sherlock Holmes, a play in which Sherlock and Watson are in a gay relationship, and an animated series by Hayao Miyazaki where the characters are anthropomorphic animals, there’s no way that a new adaptation can surprise you. Well, Shekhar Home asks you to think otherwise.

Shoots have resumed in the Bengali-language film industry, after boycotts were called over a filming dispute.
Filming resumed today after an intervention from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Last week, technicians boycotted a production on which director Rahool Mukherjee was serving as creative producer. On July 23, the Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers of Eastern India (Fctwei) had banned Mukherjee from making films for three months for violating rules for shooting overseas in Bangladesh. The ban was later lifted by the local directors’ guild on July 27, but the technician boycott continued.
The production was set to feature actors Prosenjit Chatterjee and Anirban Bhattacharya.
In a bid to show solidarity with Mukherjee, members from the Directors Association of Eastern India announced that they would cease work from July 29, bringing the Bengali film industry to a halt. Top filmmakers like Aparna Sen, Kaushik Ganguly, and Srijit Mukherjee signed a statement supporting...

In Bengal, there are few personas whom you rarely dare to interlace with and one of them is Satyajit Ray’s iconic detective character Feluda. When Srijit Mujherji decided to create his adaptation of Feluda in a web series, the expectation became sky high so were the pens of critics who were ready to tear him apart for any mistakes. But Srijit had a winner under his sleeve with a slick adaptation of Ray’s master creation without deviating much from the original thoughts and narrative.
Chhinnamastar Abhishap revolves around a mystery related to the family of Mahesh Chowdhury (Dhritiman Chatterjee) and is placed in the beautifully scenic Hazaribag. It is better not to reveal the storyline as it dissolves the charm of a detective narrative.
Srijit Mukherji has decided to bring out the character of Feluda exactly as illustrated by Ray and it has been perfectly portrayed by Tota Roy Chowdhury.

1. Nirbaak
Love is an expression which can be uttered through different moods of mind. It could be vocal, vibrant and even violent. But love also can be silent, where a thread of silence can bind the motion of love keeping the flow alive. Director Srijit Mukherji deals with this “silent love” in his experiment to portray this basic human feeling on a different canvas with a never told narrative. “Nirbaak” (Bengali) or “Speechless” is one of the best experimental movies happened in Indian cinema in recent times. Film making is an art which is done by the means of some technological tools. And an art does not care about any theory but follows the artistic instincts. “Nirbaak” is a hard-hitting experimental movie which rarely happens in Indian Cinema. It might be surreal in some aspects but tries to bring out the eternal meaning of love in a different way dictated by a master director.

Gauhar Khan is in awe of filmmaker Srijit Mukherji, whose new Bengali film "Gumnaami" opened on October 2. Gauhar has dubbed the Hindi dialogues for a character in the film.

Srijit Mukherji is unarguably the most prolific filmmaker of contemporary Bengali cinema. He switches from intimate human portraits to wide-canvassed bio-pics with the ease and fluency of a pro.
This time it's the controversial nature of Subhas Chandra Bose's life and death that occupies his creative spectrum. Based on the controversial Mukherjee Commission Hearings, the film fuses a fictional Orson Welles-inspired hero who, like Citizen Kane, sets out to uncover the truth about the death of Netaji, with a fund of historical facts that permeate imminently into the narrative.
It is a fascinating character study of an obstinate leader determined to free India from foreign rule, though the film is not fully freed of foreign influences. Ironically, Anirban Bhattacharya as the Netaji-obsessed journalist Chandrachur Dhar gets much more footage than Bose, who is played by the redoubtable Prosenjit Chatterjee as a cheerless (didn't Netaji ever smile?), stoic, mumbling...

The movie “Begum jaan”, begins with a scene from New Delhi 2016 and after a few minutes, Srijit Mukherji hits the audience hard with a crude reality that questions our freedom. Are we too careless and carefree in this computerized, technologized India, standing with one leg on the past and one on the future, taking our freedom and the pain of it’s fighters and the sufferings of millions as granted? “Begum Jaan” is Srijit Mukherji’s best movie till date, with a strong inherent message, power pact performances and a thought provoking directorial approach.

They came from different parts of India and Begum Jaan has created this small country inside her “kotha”, where the inhabitants have no organized religion stamped on their body. They...

There are many theories behind the suicidal nature of human beings and among those one of the most popular and well accepted is of American psychiatrist Karl Menninger’s theory, where he has explained three mental stages: the wish to be killed (guilt), the wish to kill (revenge), and the wish to die (hopelessness). Srijit Mukherji deals with the “wish to die” or the hopelessness syndrome in “Hemlock Society,” in an analytical style and ends up with a masterpiece, which portrays the emotional quotients of human and questions the impact of modern – urban lifestyle on our mind aligning with the Surrealist theory of Andre Breton (Black comedy).

A director dreams a movie before it’s been painted on the canvas of silver screen. That dream could portray unrevealed thoughts, hidden statements, undisclosed wishes and also can portray the images of any childhood hero from the pages of novels. Director Srijit Mukherji is back again with Kakababu and Santu in “Yeti Obhijaan”, his second outing with the adventurous duo after a hugely successful money spinner “Mishwar Rahasya” released in 2013.
Kakababu (Prosenjit Chatterjee) and Santu (Aryann Bhowmik), the adventurous duo are back again in search of the giant beast Yeti, in the snow covered Gorokhshep plateau in Nepal.
