As this years ABCs of Death 2 Filmmaker Frenzy contest for the letter "M" draws to a close, we figured it would be fun to review some additional short films that caught our attention. Starring Melissa Watson as Kendra and Jonny Rey as Alan, M Is For Mushrooms is a short film about a couple who get some “potent” mushrooms that they proceed to ingest.

We've been talking about the indie horror flick Fetch for well over a year now around these parts, and the good news is that it's coming your way in just a few weeks. The weird news? It's under a new title, American Maniacs.

Cm Downs directs from a script by Trent Haaga. Ashlynn Yennie, Shawn G. Smith, Jason Curtis Miller, Kurt Hannover, Curtis Smith, Sharon Wright, and Krystal Heib all star.

Look for the flick on VOD January 1st from Phase 4 Films.

Synopsis

In a small Kansas town, country life is anything but simple or safe. Things are coming full circle for director Jeff Chitty's The Taking of Savannah. The film's trailer debuted at last year's Fright Night Film Fest in Louisville, Kentucky, and over the upcoming weekend of July 22nd-24th, the film itself will premiere at the very same event!

Screening alongside Savannah at the Fright Night Film Fest will be films from Kansas City area filmmakers David R. Berry, Brian Boye, John D. Barnes, Andrew Rolston, Dustin Adair and festival regular Patrick Rea, among others. Also appearing at Fright Night are legendary director John Carpenter, scream queen Tiffany Shepis, Henry Winkler, a Revenge of the Nerds reunion, a Dark Night of the Scarecrow reunion, Michael A. One thing that can really make or break a horror film is the choice of music for its soundtrack, and no one is more aware of that than Fetch producer Theodore Loscalzo, who dropped us a line with a little behind-the-scenes info on the scoring process for the film along with a few clips of the types of music we can expect to hear in the finished product.

Principal photography for The Taking of Savannah has wrapped with only two scenes left to shoot. Its cast list is as follows: Savannah - Krystal Heib (Fetch), Ashley - Denise Carroll (Fetch), Scott - Antoinne Williams, Spencer - Mike Ducey, Finn - Jeremy Everts, Riff - Cameron Haines, and Torg - John D. Barnes. Dustin Adair penned the script from which Chitty is directing, the Dp is Robert P. Campbell, and the film's makeup and FX are being handled by Colleen May (Fetch, Nailbiter).

We've been following the progress of indie flick Fetch for a while now so it's great to see that the filmmakers have set a premiere date, and we've got the early word on the when and where right here!

DrippingDead Films will holding the world premiere of director Cm Downs' Fetch on September 7th, 2010, at AMC Mainstreet in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The theatre originally opened in October, 1921 as a vaudeville and movie house. After having closed in the mid 1980's, AMC started renovations in 2006 and had a grand re-opening on May 1, 2009. As the below photo shows, AMC Mainstreet, which features all-digital projection, is the "Crown Jewel" of AMC Entertainment in AMC's hometown.

Ashlynn Yennie, Shawn G. Smith, Jason Curtis Miller, Kurt Hannover, Curtis Smith, Sharon Wright, Krystal Heib, and the rest of the cast will be in attendance. Ernie Biggs, a Chicago style pub, is hosting a Q&A/reception directly after the screening.

The full schedule for Fright Night Film Fest, which runs July 30th-August 1st in Louisville, Kentucky, isn't quite finalized yet, but we did hear from producer/director Jeff Chitty that the trailer for his current project, The Taking of Savannah, will be having its world premiere there.

We've been telling you guys about the indie film Fetch for about six months now, and today we get to show you a nice video taste of it as producer Ted LoScalzo of DrippingDead Films just sent over the official trailer.

LoScalzo tells us, "We have all watched way, way too many trailers, and most of them are disappointing because not only do they not hold your interest, but when you see the movie, it was all the best scenes! We have worked hard to make sure we don't repeat those mistakes. I do believe that this should help crank up the fervor for Fetch."

A new update just landed in our inbox today on indie project Fetch, director C.M. Downs' upcoming feature that just wrapped up principal photography in Kansas, including a fresh batch of stills that have been added to our Fetch gallery.

Producer Ted LoScalzo tells us that "Fetch is looking pretty damm good! We are currently working through the footage and expect to have a trailer out for everybody soon (soon being a couple of weeks)." One indie project that we've been keeping close tabs on is Fetch, director C.M. Downs' upcoming feature that is currently shooting in Kansas, and today he sent over two new stills and an update on what's been happening since we last heard from him.

First up is a shot of Downs with actor Jason C. Miller (who portrays the character Clyde Arbuckle). Here's how Downs describes it, "I'm walking him through his final death sequence... I'm a big fan of keeping those eyes open at death. I know it's hard to tell, but the dirt floor he is laying on is actually frozen, which is why the blood is pooling around his neck and not seeping into the ground." In case you're wondering how the ground got to be frozen, Downs explains, "These guys shot through the coldest temps in 20 years of Kansas history. When I say cold, I mean Cold!
