The opening credits to last night’s broadcast of “Saturday Night Live” told viewers they’d get to see something they really like: a new short film from Please Don’t Destroy, the small troupe of writers who make frenetic vignettes that often shock as much as they delight. What was delivered, however, was decidedly different.

The three-person “Pdd” team did turn up on screen, but not during the show. Instead, members Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy were part of a commercial from insurance giant Allstate that appeared during an ad break and had the trio holding forth opposite “Mayhem,” the longstanding ad character who has been played by actor Dean Winters for more than a decade. The original Please Don’t Destroy sketch that was supposed to air on “SNL” was cut by producers due to time constraints, according to a person familiar with the matter, and has been made available online.

Although plenty of sketches get cut for time from Saturday Night Live, none were so cutting as Charli Xcx‘s digital short with Please Don’t Destroy.

In ‘Mean Cute‘, the 9x Grammy nominee goes toe-to-toe with the comedy trio, roasting each other in the lobby of 30 Rockefeller after bumping into them during a series of romantic-comedy style encounters.

After running into Marshall in the hallway and connecting over their favorite book, Charli says, “Hey, this might be crazy but would you ever wanna… watch where the f— you’re going? You just charged into me like a rhino, you dead-eyed ginger.”

“I’m sorry, I guess I’m just confused,” quipped Marshall. “It’s November. Weren’t you supposed to get put away with the rest of the Halloween decorations?”

Please Don’t Destroy returned to “Saturday Night Live” this week with a new sketch, their first of the season. The show’s in-house comedy troupe — made up of writers Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy — showed up with Higgns and Herlihy as would-be skydivers, while Marshall served as their instructor… who was feeling deeply bad vibes.

Higgins and Herlihy played friends on a skydiving trip to celebrate a birthday. As they’re preparing to jump from the plane, it becomes apparent that the crew onboard is in no condition to facilitate the jump.

Instructor Marshall tells the pair that he’s feeling a little “weird” about leaping from the plane, which isn’t exactly the kind of pep talk you want to hear before making the same commitment. “I’m usually never nervous. Just woke up feeling off today. Like, luck is just not on my side,” Marshall explained.

In tonight’s SNL sketch centered on the trio known as Please Don’t Destroy — John Higgins, Ben Marshall and Martin Herlihy — host Ramy Youssef stops by their writers’ room at 10:16 p.m., proposing “A Night Out with Travis.”

“Yo dudes, what’s up?” he says. “You won’t believe this, but I was just with Travis Scott and he wants to take us out tonight. Dude, we’re going to have a twisted, rockin’ ball with Travis Scott, man.”

“A what?” asks Herlihy.

Jacob Elordi hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend and one of the sketches that didn’t make it to air was a Pimp My Ride spoof that featured a cameo from Xzibit.

In the cut-for-time sketch, Elordi plays a janitor named Sergei. The Please Don’t Destroy group, consisting of Ben Marshall, John Higgins, and Martin Herlihy, finds out Sergei’s “car is busted” and gets an idea to spruce up his vehicle.

The trio approaches Sergei at a bus stop and surprises him, transforming his van “into a fully customized trash wagon,” which included a “fresh paint job, new decals, and a custom vanity plate” that reads, “Sergei da trash king.”

Tonight on SNL, the writer-performer trio known as Please Don’t Destroy — consisting of Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy — saw their digital sketch disrupted by technical issues.

“Disclaimer: Due to a hard drive malfunction, some of Emma Stone’s footage from this week’s Please Don’t Destroy video was corrupted,” says the narrator. “But, using advanced AI technology, we were able to seamlessly replace any lost shots of her. Now please enjoy.”

The actual Stone is present immediately thereafter as she enters the trio’s office, one writing night after 10 p.m.

Marshall lets Stone know that they are “such big fans,” with Higgins exclaiming, “Yeah, when we saw your name, we were like, ‘Are you kidding? Emma Stone is hosting?'”

The comedy trio known as Please Don't Destroy has been making a splash at "Saturday Night Live" for the past couple years. Creating fast-paced, absurd, pre-recorded sketches starring themselves, as well as being part of the writing staff, the trio has made a quite name for themselves. Last weekend, their first movie debuted on Peacock, "Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain," and it's the kind of comedy that we wish could have been given a theatrical release in order to have that communal experience of laughing out loud with a crowd. But at least it's getting a chance to find an audience. Plus, director Paul Briganti is used to people watching his stuff at home anyway.

Briganti worked at "SNL" for six years before departing the series late in 2021, just as Please Don't Destroy had joined the series.

It’s rare that Conan O’Brien plays a character rather than himself in on-screen cameos. But he happily took on the role of Farley in Peacock‘s The Treasure of Foggy Mountain comedy, created by the guys of Saturday Night Live‘s Please Don’t Destroy, Ben Marshall, John Higgins, and Martin Herlihy. In The Treasure of Foggy Mountain, three deadbeat co-workers fend off hairless bears, desperate park rangers, and a hypocritical cult leader while searching for a priceless treasure. O’Brien, Meg Stalter, Bowen Yang, John Goodman (as the narrator), and more comedic favs appear in the movie, premiering exclusively on Peacock on Friday, November 17. In the video interview above, director Paul Briganti (who worked on Please Don’t Destroy videos on SNL before signing on for this flick) shares what O’Brien was like on set, working with producer Judd Apatow on the film, deleted scenes, and more.

The new episode of Saturday Night Live mocked the latest Republican presidential debate by joking about former President Donald Trump’s dominance in the race, even though he has refused to appear onstage with his competitors.

The cold open began with a description of the event as the “Republican kids table debate” by NBC’s Lester Holt (played by Keenan Thompson).

All the actors introduced themselves before they revisited Wednesday night’s debate highlights.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (played by Molly Kearny) opened, “My wife said I could try this one more time!”

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (played by Heidi Gardner) announced in response that she was “excited to look good in comparison.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis (played by John Higgins), followed Haley and was introduced as “Florida governor and owner of the world’s most upsetting smile.”

Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy (played by Ego Nwodim), announced in his introduction,...

Ah, the early days of a presidential election cycle. For a sketch comedian, there’s no better time.

There are endless potential candidates out there to do impressions of and, since nobody really knows who they are, the impressions don’t even have to be that good. Such was the case when Saturday Night Live rolled out its first debate sketch of the season, and the stage was packed with new (parody) faces.

This week’s “Saturday Night Live” cold open began as a pretty straightforward rehash of the Republican presidential debate from the past week, but then James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump crashed the proceedings and spoke directly to the camera, roasting the various contenders (and their “SNL” counterparts) — and himself.

The sketch opened with Kenan Thompson as Lester Holt introducing a host of “SNL” cast members debuting impressions as Republican challengers. “Welcome to the Republican kids’ table debate,” Thompson’s Holt said.

“My wife said I could try this one more time,” Molly Kearney’s Chris Christie quipped. “I’m excited to look good in comparison,” Heidi Gardner’s Nikki Haley added, while Devon Walker’s Tim Scott rambled on about his girlfriend: “She is real and we’re dating, and for her I feel a real sense of human love.”

James Austin Johnson returned as Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live, this time with the former president offering a critique of each of his rivals as they participated in the most recent Republican debate.

Tonight’s cold-open sketch — which had the five rivals freezing in place as Trump walked on stage — was a bit of a riff on NBC News, which hosted Wednesday night’s gathering. Given Trump’s wide lead in the polls and his refusal to participate in the debates, the events essentially have been a battle to be the Trump alternative.

“How adorable!” Johnson as Trump said as he first took the stage. “They actually think they’ve got a chance. Sad in some ways, but in other ways, funny.”

“Can you believe it, folks? Ninety-one indictments, four trials and I am still the best choice.”

As the 118-day actors strike came to an end, late night hosts shared their thoughts on stars returning to work.

During Thursday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, host Jimmy Kimmel started off the show by declaring it “take your actor back to work day here in Hollywood.”

On Wednesday, SAG-AFTRA reached a tentative deal on a new three-year contract with studios and streaming, following weeks of renewed negotiations. The move officially brought an end to the grueling months-long actors strike.

“One member of the actors negotiation committee said that there were tears of exhilaration and joy in the room after the deal was approved. And it only took them a few takes. It was very realistic,” Kimmel quipped.

Now that the strike has ended, projects are finally able to resume production. But Kimmel had an idea on who jumped to return to filming first, saying, “The Hallmark Channel immediately...

The end of the actors strike is the talk of the town, and late night is no exception.

“Thank you for joining us on ‘take your actor back to work day’ here in Hollywood,” Jimmy Kimmel said during his opening monologue. “Where most of the movie and TV business has been at a stop, a standstill, since May.”

He continued: “Writers’ Strike started in May. But at long last, the actor’s strike is finally over. A lot of people were affected. The Hallmark Channel immediately started shooting all 1,200 of its Christmas movies this morning. One member of the negotiating committee said that there were ‘tears of exhilaration and joy’ in the room after the deal was approved, and it only took them a few takes. It was very realistic.”

Jokes aside, Kimmel concluded: “Finally, actors can get back to their real jobs…which is…playing people with real jobs.

Seth Meyers is congratulating actors after SAG-AFTRA made a deal with the studios to bring their 118-day strike to an end.

“I’m happy to report something happened yesterday that will affect the quality of this show in a very nice way and also the quality of life for actors everywhere,” he said during Late Night With Seth Meyers on Thursday. “Congratulations to SAG-AFTRA. Congratulations to every worker who organizes and gets the deal they deserve. Well done.”

Meyers also discussed a bit more about how the end of the strike would impact his show. Late-night shows resumed following the end of the WGA strike. While they’ve booked plenty of talent during that time, guests have largely been unable to discuss any film or television projects.

Well, Meyer joked, don’t expect that to start on Thursday with the Please Don’t Destroy cast Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy.
