Nobody Loves You More, Kim Deal’s first-ever solo album, has been a lifetime in the making. The trailblazing singer-songwriter, whose recordings with the Pixies and the Breeders drafted blueprints for the Nineties alt-rock explosion, has always released albums at unusual intervals, La Jetée-like snapshots of her state of mind. She’s been the Buzz Bin sexpot (Pixies’ “Gigantic” for sure, and isn’t “Divine Hammer” simply Gen X’s “Tush”?), she’s been the bong in the reggae song (“Cannonball”), and the ever-moving island (Title Tk’s “Off You”). Other times,...

A California judge has sided with former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer and struck down major portions of a wrongful death lawsuit that alleges Klinghoffer was on his cell phone “mere seconds before” he piloted his Gmc Yukon into a crosswalk and fatally struck a man last March.
At a hearing Friday in Alhambra, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Ian C. Fusselman ruled that plaintiff Ashley Sanchez, the daughter of victim Israel Sanchez, had failed to show Klinghoffer’s actions rose to the level of “despicable and...

Josh Klinghoffer, former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist and current touring member of Pearl Jam, was arraigned in a California court on Thursday on a misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence. Through he attorney, he pleaded not guilty.
The charge stems from a car accident on March 18th, 2024, in which Klinghoffer struck 47-year-old pedestrian Israel Sanchez with his SUV in Alhambra, California. Sanchez was in a crosswalk and hit from behind. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
In July, Sanchez’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Klinghoffer, alleging that he was distracted while driving and failed to brake in time.
According to Rolling Stone, a source with knowledge of the investigation said that “no criminal intent is alleged” and a review of the evidence determined “there was no phone involved.” However, a lawyer representing Sanchez’s family, Grayson Yoder,...

Josh Klinghoffer, the former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist who went on to play for Pearl Jam and others, pleaded “not guilty” to a misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence in a California courtroom Thursday.
Klinghoffer did not attend the hearing in person but entered the plea through his lawyer, Blair Berk. The criminal charge, filed quietly in August, stems from a deadly crash on March 18, 2024, in the city of Alhambra, just east of Los Angeles. Klinghoffer, 44, was driving a black 2022 Gmc Yukon when his vehicle struck pedestrian Israel Sanchez in a crosswalk.

Morrissey claims he has been “gagged” over the release of his album Bonfire of the Teenagers, which he recorded between 2020 and 2021. In a rare interview with The Telegraph, the musician said that “idiot culture” is preventing the LP from coming out.
The unreleased album has been controversial because the title references the Manchester Arena bombing, which took place during Ariana Grande’s concert in 2017. The tragic incident resulted in 22 deaths and galvanized the city of Manchester, who claimed Oasis’ song “Don’t Look Back in Anger” as their anthem.

Eddie Vedder has released a cover of Tom Petty’s song “Room at the Top.”
Originally released on Petty’s 1999 album Echo, “Room at the Top” has been in rotation at Vedder’s solo shows for some time. In 2018, he even performed it during the “In Memoriam” tribute to Petty at the Academy Awards. Now, his studio version arrives as part of the soundtrack for the upcoming Apple TV+ show, Bad Monkey, set to premiere on August 14th.

Beginning with a ballad arrangement led by simple electric guitar strumming, Vedder’s rendition of “Room at the Top” blossoms into a full-fledged rock anthem, with a climatic organ solo to boot. Guitarist Josh Klinghoffer is being sued for his alleged involvement in a car accident that left one pedestrian dead on March 18.
Klinghoffer, who has worked with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and is currently on tour with Pearl Jam, is named a defendant in a lawsuit filed by the pedestrian’s family, Israel Sanchez. He sustained trauma to his head and died hours later in Alhambra, California.
“It was a tragic accident,” Klinghoffer’s lawyer Andrew Brettler told TMZ. “After Josh struck this pedestrian in the intersection, he immediately pulled over, stopped the car, called 911 and waited until police and the ambulance arrived. Obviously, he’s cooperating with the police throughout the traffic investigation. This was purely a tragic accident.”
Nick Rowley, prosecuting attorney, delivered a contradicting report to Entertainment Weekly. The prosecution has accused Klinghoffer of using his cell phone while driving his Black 2022 Gmc Yukon moments before hitting Sanchez.

Guitarist Dave Navarro was back playing with Jane’s Addiction at London’s Bush Hall on Thursday (May 23rd), marking his return to the stage after a battle with long Covid kept him sidelined for a few years.
In 2022, original bassist Eric Avery rejoined the legendary alt-rock band after more than a decade away, but with Navarro sitting out, it prevented a reunion of the classic Jane’s Addiction lineup. Queens of the Stone Age’s Troy Van Leeuwen and former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer had filled in the past couple years.

Thurston Moore and Snail Mail’s Lindsey Jordan have teamed up for a new cover of Lou Reed’s “Satellite of Love.” Watch the performance below.
For the latest entry in Fender’s “Best of the Decades” ad series, the artists deliver a guitar-led version of the 1973 track, with Jordan’s chorused Vintera II ‘60s Stratocaster carrying the progression, and Moore’s Vintera II ‘70s Jaguar providing colorful accents over the top. Both clad in Reed-esque sunglasses, Jordan sings the majority of the tune, with Moore helping out for the “Harry, Mark, and John” lines.
For her part, Jordan keeps her performance rooted in the raw coolness of Reed’s usual vocal delivery, mostly hanging out around the bottom of her range. By the song’s outro (where Reed’s original presents a soundscape of backing vocals from David Bowie), Jordan opens up and lets out a few soaring melodic lines,...

Back in 1988, Shannon Strong was a scrappy young Denver punk musician playing in a band called the Pagan Cowboys while dreaming of something else. Inspired by the magazine ads of Neve recording consoles she taped on her bedroom wall as a kid and the flashing buttons at the fingertips of Star Trek’s Lieutenant Uhura, she wanted to be behind the recording desk as well as in front of it.
She fled the shackles of Reagan’s America first for London, then, after witnessing a “mindblowing” Einstürzende Neubauten gig, decided to explore Berlin.

With three years behind him since he was let go from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Josh Klinghoffer has some thoughts on the music the band has made in his wake. Speaking with the Brazilian podcast 5 Notas recently (via Exclaim), the guitarist argued that Chili Peppers were “doing cooler music” when he was still a member of the band.
Klinghoffer performed on two Red Hot Chili Peppers albums following John Frusciante’s 2009 departure: 2011’s I’m With You and 2016’s The Getaway. Frusciante rejoined in late 2019 to perform on the band’s next two albums, Unlimited Love and Return of the Dream Canteen, both of which were released in 2022. “I don’t think I finished [listening to] the second one,” Klinghoffer said. “I was trying to cram it in once before leaving on a plane, and I got as far as maybe the ninth song, and I don’t think I listened to the rest.

Jane’s Addiction unveiled their first new song in a decade on Sunday (March 5th) during a concert in Bakersfield, California. The tune, titled “True Love,” was performed by the band’s current touring lineup of Perry Farrell, Stephen Perkins, Eric Avery, and Josh Klinghoffer (who is filling in for Dave Navarro).
“True Love” is the first new Jane’s tune since 2013’s “Another Soulmate,” a one-off single that followed the band’s 2011 album The Great Escape Artist.
The slow ballad is driven by Avery’s melodic bass line, enhanced by Klinghoffer’s occasional guitar theatrics, as Farrell sings with a subdued restraint throughout the song.
Jane’s have been sharing video clips of Farrell, Avery, and Perkins in the studio on Instagram, and it could be assumed that “True Love” was written during those sessions. Last year, Farrell told Heavy Consequence during a video interview that he’d love...

The semi-reunited Jane’s Addiction have announced another lineup change with former Red Hot Chili Peppers member Josh Klinghoffer filling in for Dave Navarro on the band’s upcoming tour.
Prior to Jane’s Addiction’s return as part their joint tour with Smashing Pumpkins last year, Perry Farrell and company revealed that Navarro would not be joining them on the road as the guitarist recovered from a lengthy bout with long Covid; Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen subbed in in Navarro’s absence.

“I’m in a frenzy!” 75-year-old Iggy Pop barks on “Frenzy,” the first track on Every Loser. This comes as something of a surprise. While such a state used to be par for the course for the most shirtless man in rock, it’s been a while since his solo work has reflected that kind of intensity. Both Préliminaires, in 2009, and Après, in 2012, focused on his earthy croon (in French, no less). Iggy had spent much of the first decade or so of the 21st century thrashing out his demons with the reformed Stooges,...

In a brief post on his official website that was headlined ‘Roll On 2023,” the Smiths expat Morrissey said he has “voluntarily parted company” with his label, Capitol Records, and with his managers at Maverick and Quest Artist Management.
As if that weren’t enough to get the singer’s legions of fans stirring, he later posted — under the headline “Miley Cyrus Is a Punk Rocker” — that the “Wrecking Ball” and “Midnight Sky” singer wants to be taken off a song on which they collaborated for his forthcoming “hidden” album Bonfire of Teenagers.
“Miley Cyrus now wants to be taken off the song ‘I Am Veronica’ for which she volunteered backing vocals almost two years ago,” the post at Morrissey-Solo.com reads. “This comes at a time when Morrissey has disassociated himself with Capitol Records (Los Angeles), who control the hidden album Bonfire of Teenagers.

Over 18 months after Morrissey first announced his upcoming album Bonfire of Teenagers, the LP appears to be indefinitely shelved once again after the singer revealed he has parted ways with his record label. Also delaying its release: Miley Cyrus wants her backing vocals removed from one of the album tracks.
In a pair of messages posted to Morrissey Central (via NME) — the singer’s go-to mouthpiece — Morrissey revealed that he has “voluntarily withdrawn from any association” with Capitol Records, the label that was set to release Bonfire of Teenagers in Feb.

Former Red Hot Chillies guitarist Josh Klinghoffer has opened up about his 10 years performing with the rock band, claiming that the experience was “enormously stifling”.
Klinghoffer first joined the group in 2009 following guitarist John Frusciante’s exit. However, he was later asked to leave in 2019 once Frusciante returned.
Speaking about his “perfect” decade-long run with the “Californication” band, Klinghoffer told Guitar World (via Radio X) that “as much as I love those guys and loved playing with them, it was also enormously stifling creatively”.
He went on to explain: “They’re an established band with an established sound, and I learned over time how little deviating from that was possible.
“As much as I thought they were up for experimentation, they generally stayed in their own lane.”
The 43-year-old musician added that he would try and avoid “certain chords” in his music writing “if they sounded like something John would...

Eddie Vedder ensured that Pearl Jam were able to play one more show in Europe after the frontman’s vocal problems — tied to the continent’s ongoing heat wave and wildfires — forced the band to cancel a handful of gigs.
The band took the stage tonight, July 25, at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, having canceled a gig at the same venue the night before, along with previously-scheduled shows in Vienna and Prague. Vedder was left unable to sing after an outdoor gig in Paris, where a combination of heat, dust,...

When Jeff Ament started the process of scoring “Under the Banner of Heaven,” he actually received quite a bit of input from series creator Dustin Lance Black about how he wanted to communicate a constant sense of dread. “He wanted to have that shimmer of the celestial, but he wanted that to be juxtaposed with really dense earthly evil,” he tells Gold Derby during our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above). In order to achieve the desired sound, Ament (along with co-composers Josh Klinghoffer and John Wicks) started messing around with what instruments to use to exaggerate those scenes. “We got a lot of the earthly stuff through the loops that we were playing and running keyboards through lots of effects, pedals and sub-harmonizers, low kind of guttural sounds.”

“Under the Banner of Heaven,” the grim, century-hopping true crime series of Mormon fundamentalists committing a savage double murder in the name of God, rests its weary soul on June 2. But the music lives on for fans of Pearl Jam, whose bassist and co-founder Jeff Ament was called upon to score the FX series.
In collaboration with screenwriter Dustin Lance Black — the writer of “Milk,” for which he won an Academy Award for original screenplay — the first-time composer was tasked with recording an equally-atmospheric version of vengeance and misery to soundtrack devout detective Jeb Pyre (Andrew Garfield) and his battle against good and evil, inside and outside the realm of his faith.
Ament enlisted the band’s current second guitarist, Josh Klinghoffer, as well as instrumentalists John Wicks and Josh Evans, to create an oppressive and noisy score while the series was still in production. (“Under the Banner of Heaven...

When we think of the Red Hot Chili Peppers at their best — making rock that was both breezily Californian and exceedingly funky — guitarist John Frusciante has always been the heartbeat of that sound. Of course, Frusciante’s experience with the band has been tempestuous. He’s quit twice, most recently parting ways with the group after the tour for their massive double album Stadium Arcadium in 2009. But in 2019, fans of the Chili Peppers were pleasantly shocked by news of Frusciante’s return.

Eddie Vedder has always seemed like a singer inextricably bound to his band. Since the beginnings of Pearl Jam, he has flexed his warm baritone with an intensity or a sensitivity that perfectly matched his fellow musicians’ loose fury and anxious jamming; Vedder’s voice depends on Pearl Jam’s music, and their songs demand his voice. Whenever he has ventured into the wilds of a solo career, he has done so in the least Pearl Jam-y ways possible, whether it was the folkie mandolin musings of “Rise” or the beach-fire serenades of Ukulele Songs.
