Sting is the new film from Australian writer/director Kiah Roache-Turner, the man behind the Mad Max meets Dawn of the Dead films Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead and its sequel Wyrmwood: Apocalypse as well as the over-the-top ghost hunting film Nekrotronic. All three of them were fun films that made good use of a small budget, so a big bug movie seemed like a good fit for his skills.

2024 is set to be a summer of spidery screams thanks to the release of Sting, a new horror film that promises to spin a web of terror. Shark films are very in right now. Sting director Kiah Roache-Turner is working on one as is Renny Harlin, plus Netflix’s Under Paris is one of the streamer’s most watched films ever.

Hayley Easton Street is now adding her take on sharks eating people with Something In The Water. Posed as a survival thriller rather than a full-blown horror movie, the film follows a group of women, who have been reunited at a destination wedding in the Caribbean.

A fabulous day of sunbathing on a near-by island turns into a fight for survival after Ruth (Ellouise Shakespeare-Hart) is bitten by a sneaky shark in the shallow waters. The group finds themselves stranded in the shark-infested waters after Cam (Nicole Rieko Setsuko) wrecks the boat.

Odd name for a killer spider movie, Sting. For that we can thank Tolkien-loving 12 year-old Charlotte (Alyla Browne) who chooses it as the nickname for the arachnid she finds scuttling around her dimly-lit New York apartment building. Sweeping the critter into a jar and intent on keeping it as a pet, Charlotte is blissfully unaware that Sting is capable of escaping from its glass prison and, as it dines on other living things roaming around the building, will soon grow to a frightening size.

Yet, that’s exactly what Kiah Roache-Turner has done with Sting. 2024 is half over and while we have seen some brilliant horror films come out this year I don’t think it has been such a great year for the genre. With most horror films flopping at the box office and the dreaded Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey sequel coming out it all felt wrong. But don’t worry because I have picked out the 10 best horror films that have come out this year. I haven’t ranked the films in the article and I will update the list as more films come out.

Actor Ryan Corr revealed his greatest fear while he looked back on his experience on set for his film Sting in his new uInterview.

“The premise is, a giant alien spider from outer space finds its way into a New York City apartment, and more particularly to a young Charlotte, who she befriends, and as she sort of raises this spider and it grows,” Corr told uInterview founder Erik Meers. “The problems in the nuclear family and the issues that are possibly in the relationships there start to grow as well. They have to come together to fight this alien spider and the elements that are coming up in the family.

Of his character Ethan, Corr said, “Ethan is Charlotte’s stepfather and Heather’s husband. For me, this film was an homage to stepparents. I’ve grown up myself with two wonderful stepparents, and I always thought the dynamic was really interesting.

Concert film Suga – Agust D Tour ‘D-Day’ The Movie from Trafalgar Releasing took in $990k for Saturday alone, rounding out the North American box office top ten — testament to the power of concert films post-Covid and the enduring popularity of the K-Pop powerhouse. The band is currently on hiatus as members entered military service required in South Korea. But Suga, the second oldest, got in one last solo concert in Seoul last year. It was released into theaters globally for two playdates on April 10 and April 13, for a cume of $2.2 million.

The film played at 723 locations Saturday in the U.S. ($910.3k) and 64 in Canada ($80.6k). (Total screens 787.)

In “Sting,” a giant-spider-grows-in-Brooklyn thriller that’s cheeky, bloody, and (most important) very gooey, Sting is the name given by Charlotte (Alyla Browne), a precocious tween, to the elegant two-inch-long black spider that becomes her pet (she keeps it in a jar and feeds it bugs). I love a good creature-feature. Low budget? No problem! Campy and over-the-top? Bring it on! The draw is even stronger when that creature is something that exists in the real-world. Whether it be a larger than life alligator, a drugged-up black bear or — in this case — a spider. Granted, the titular creature in Kiah Roache-Turner’s Sting no ordinary Earth-born spider, but she’s a spider nonetheless. These types of movies aren’t always good, but they’re (for the most part) entertaining. This time… it’s both.

Not long after hunting a monstrously-sized spider in Kiah Roache-Turner’s upcoming horror thriller Sting, Alyla Browne is hanging out with Sonic the Hedgehog and his fast-moving friends. The up-and-coming actress revealed she’s playing Maria Robotnik for Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3. According to Sonic the Hedgehog lore, Maria Robotnik is Professor Gerald Robotnik’s granddaughter and Doctor Robotnik’s cousin.

While there’s a chance Browne is playing a different character named Maria, I’ll bet my collection of original Sonic the Hedgehog Sega Genesis cartridges she’s the character who debuted in Sonic Adventure 2. Well Go USA has revealed an official trailer for an insanely scary, unsettling horror movie called Sting, arriving in theaters this April. This Australian production comes from a filmmaker named Kiah Roache-Turner, and it looks as scary as any spider movie can. Sting spins a web of thrilling terror when 12-year-old Charlotte’s pet spider rapidly transforms into a giant flesh-eating monster, forcing the young girl to fight for her family's survival. The freaky little creature actually comes from outer space, an alien spider that befriends this little girl before it becomes an enormous killer. This stars Alyla Browne, Ryan Corr, Penelope Mitchell, Jermaine Fowler, Silvia Colloca, Danny Kim, Noni Hazlehurst, and Robyn Nevin. This isn't the only extremely scary spider movie this year - there's also a French horror called Vermin that apparently used real spiders while shooting.

Well Go USA have just released the poster and trailer for Kiah Roache-Turner's upcoming creature thriller Sting and I've already got the heebeejeebees. This poster is triggering enough on its own.   You're going to hate me for saying this, but, if you're scared of spiders you're going to have to see this movie. Roache-Turner is reuniting with Cornerstone, the company that’s handling worldwide sales and distribution for his spider-themed horror film Sting, on this new project, and Cornerstone is currently presenting Beast of War to potential buyers at the upcoming American Film Market. While the market is going on, Roache-Turner took a moment to talk to The Hollywood Reporter about the “unashamedly fun” shark film he’s gearing up to make.

The American Film Market kicks off Oct. 31 and runs through Nov. 5 in its new headquarters at the Le Meridien Delfina in Santa Monica. Industry screenings are set at theaters throughout the city and AFM’s conference series, the AFM Sessions, will take place at the Hilton Santa Monica Hotel. Cornerstone has closed sales on multiple territories, including North America and the U.K., for writer and director Daniel Kokotajlo’s “Starve Acre,” a brooding and atmospheric folk horror feature. “House of the Dragon’s” Matt Smith and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” actor Morfydd Clark star in the film, which is produced by House Prods.

The deals were finalized following the film’s world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival, where it screened in competition. Brainstorm Media has acquired distribution rights for North America and Cornerstone also closed a deal with BFI Distribution for the U.K. and Ireland.
